I have a mac 26M and its a great boat, goes 17 mph (thats 15knots) under power and around 6-8 mph under sail (main and genoa). Its very safe but common sense has to come into the picture as with any boat.
I have this boat on Lake Tahoe. Can't say I'd want to take it on the ocean, but it's a fabulous mix of sailboat and powerboat for our conditions. The ability to trailer it easily (very light after you drain out the water) also makes it a very cost-effective and flexible boat.
I want the 26 footer asap, I must do more research, but it appears to be off shore capable,Would you all recommend the Macgregor for this? Self righting, what other sail boat does that? I can't find any flaws here.
and what if a traditional sailboat is holed? You are in the lifeboat! Not the mac, in fact it will still float greatly increasing chances of being spotted for a rescure. Biscay if you take the time to learn the complicated MacGregor, you might one day give it the credit due
Which is safer? Their haven't been any rig failures either. The mac will sail 7knts in a decent blow, even faster if the hull planes. Its 80% the skipper,%20 the boat.
Its a power boat, when the sea gets nasty, you keep the ballast tank full for stability and motor to safety at 14knts safely. The boat is self bailing, self righting, and rides on top of the water, not in it.

Pretty scary but the boat looked to be handling it ok. Not bad for a boat only 26'!

airborn... good call, they seem to be quick to jump on other videos and posts but it's tough to argue what you just saw! Macs rock!

Where are all those purist sailors that say the MacGregor is not an offshore boat? No comments here? I'm surprised.
