  • What a Show. For PBS to bring back Thomas the Train and not this show is a tragedy.

  • I miss this show so much.

One of my dearest dreams is that some TV station will re-run this show.

This is a big piece of my childhood that time has somehow been unable to touch or change.

  • @TheWiseTyronian I miss it too. They dvds of the show for sale somewhere and then you can watch them any time you like.God bless you Tyronian.

  • I miss this and other old pbs shows, so much. this and other old pbs shows are always in my heart (and mind) forever and ever. along with my favorite daytime soap opera actor, my favorite cartoon charicters, and cartoon shows too, and also my favorite WWE Superstars too.

  • what Engine is that? it aint a N&S 1218 is it?

  • @fourstar7

Union Pacific 4-8-4 844. At the time of the footage, it was 8444, due to a UP EMD GP30 taking that number.

  • look in the suggestions box and look for spacewizard1 video that says "ShiningTime Station Intro and Ending 844 Edition, same style train, worth a look

  • 0:24 OHHH so thats how the dog MUTT came to be. =P

  • I COMPLETELY forgot that Ringo was on this show! I haven't seen this in forever!

  • I used to watch this everyday when I'd come home from school :-)

  • @CartoonCritter1985 I did too and nobody I grew up with knew of this show

  • I fell in love with RIngo when i was 4 thanks to this show. I still am in love with Ringo.

  • I love this guy's voice

  • Ill miss you Shining Time :.(

  • man this takes me back :) i miss the good kids shows from the 90's

  • i just realised tom jackson and leonard jackson could be related

  • Holy Shit! Ringo Starr was the conductor?! damn!

  • i wonder if sHIT would overthrow this

  • @dylanbobby1 does sHIT own this? Like is it copyrighted by the buttholes?

  • show of hands, growing up watching this the first three secs of this video on tv, scared you?, ps( i was an easly frightend child)

  • OMG i remember this

i miss the good old days

  • yeah

  • I don't think this is season one as George Carlin was Mr Conductor, and it has ringo listed

  • tjmfishing: Ringo was Mr. Conductor first. Carlin came in later to show that the character had aged between the different seasons.

  • @TherealRNO Thanks, I was five when I watched this so I didn't know any better, thanks for clearing that uo

  • Oh My God!!!

  • this was the original thomas and friends theme i remember this from my childhood

  • These were the good ol' days :)

  • They seriously need to release Shining Time Station on DVD. While yes I know they still make Thomas & Friends dvds aimed towards kids today, I'm sure people who grew up watching this in the late 80s and early 90s would buy it. I knew Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor before I knew he was member of the Beatles (I was a kid at the time, give me a break).

  • @NWPowhatanArrow611 lol, this is how I first knew about Ringo Starr too!

  • does anyone know what the shining time station theme song is really called i want to get it but i dont know its real name

  • Ahh the 90's......good times, good times

  • Shining Time Station w/ Thomas da train rock'd my childhood.

  • poor scheamer...he probably should have recieved some professional help. way to abuse the mentally ill.

  • hey do remember that one show where the witch traps a girl and wont let her go,but makes her write stories and read them to her.

  • This is NOT the original season 1 intro, but it was used for later rebroadcasts.

  • @13eds i was just gonna say the same thing. the theme for the opening is the same just different graphics

  • Funding for Shining Time Station was made possible in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by the financial support of Viewers Like You.

  • awesome shots of UP 8444 when she was run alot back in the late 70's or 80's it looks like here. You can still see the old cheyenne roundhouse before they tore down a majority of it in 1982. i think only 7 of the 49 stalls remain today.

  • @03dktart The footage was from a video documenty called "Eighty Four Forty Four" From what UP said its not availible to the public.

  • "Funding for this program was provided in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by the financial support of Viewers Like You"

  • I've got some unopened tapes.thoughsadly none of them are George Carlin and I think only one is Ringo Starr

  • Long Live the show's history and UP 844 the oldest operating steam engine without being taken out of service.

  • George Carlin was better as Mr. Conductor. They should've kept him for more than 2 episodes.

  • George Carlin was Mr. Conductor for Seasons 2 and 3 dude.

  • @cesariojpn I liked George Carlin better.

  • @cesariojpn George Carlin was a little bit better

  • the good old days :) why the heck did they have to freakin scew up Thomas?!It was such a great show!!Scew Hit Entertainment! I want the Britt Alcroft Company back!!!

  • I thought Hit and Alcroftt worked together

  • Even better put Shinning Time back on the air. I don't just mean reruns, I mean a new Shining Time with PRR 1361.

  • ahhhh...wow i just had a wave of nostalgia go over me

  • I love Shining Time Station.Glad my Dad still has the tapes. :)

  • Are you going to post them?

  • I gotta find them in my Dad's house.

  • What Kind Of Episodes Do You Have?

  • The Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends episodes. Boxed and unopened. I also have a thousand tapes from when Shining Time was airing.

  • What Do You Mean By Having A Thousand Tapes From When Shining Time Station Was Airing?

  • I mean I've got the episodes taped. Seasons 1, 2, and 3. On VHS. I need to transfer em.

  • Wow. Do You Know How To Upload Them Onto Youtube? I'll Be One Of Your Subscribers.

  • I'll try to. I'll have to get a VHS to DVD recorder tho. spose I'll need on eof those either way.

  • Could you please upload them with the WNET and PBS logos and funding credits intact?

  • I'll definately try

  • thx

  • Which Episodes Do You Have For Season 1?

  • this makes me want to be 3 again!!!!!

  • WOW!! That brings back Memories

  • haven't seen that in a loooooong time.

    brings back good memories.

  • I can still remember this from when I was a kid and now I'm almost 19.

Great video. Definitely miss the show and the opening was great.

Wish they would put the series on DVD. I want to own it.

  • O So DO I! I'll be 19 in March, and I remember the melody of that intro just like it was yesterday! I loved Mr. Conductor and his stories...

  • I'll be 19 in August. But I know I keep the intro song on my Ipod. It's a classic song. I loved his stories to!

  • i'll be 20 in April. I used to watch this when I was a kid all the time when it came on PBS. Trains were my biggest love and they still are. I loved every minute of each episode of this series.

  • I got ahold of Jason Woliner- Matt! I am going to send him Shining Time Station photos to sign. Bloodenator, do you know where I can find more photos of Matt than the one on Shining Time University?

  • Classic i use to like schemer he was the best character

  • i haven't heard this theme is soooooo long, i used to love this show when i was a kid.

  • Thank you so so much!! I'm 23 and hearing this is like a visit from the past.

    I miss my childhood.

  • im 14 and somehow i can still remember watching this show with my grandma very vividly but everyone else who seems to have watched this is like 20 how is that possiable?

  • well, I'm 16, so im not too far from you. This is just the kind of thing that sticks to ur mind. I can remember watching cartoons with my grandpa when I was less than 5, so it isn't unusual.

  • that means u were watching the last few times it was aired.. im 24 and i remember watchig this when i was 5

  • This is great. I'm 21, listening to this music just transports me back to my childhood and everything I used to enjoy. Transports me to a time and place when I was happiest.

  • ahhh the god ol days thanks for uploading

  • whats the song called

  • im 17and1/2 and i remember this show like it was yesterday

  • Same here!

  • i'm 25 and i also remember this show like it was yesterday. =)

  • The "Thomas the Tank" segments were taken from the British series "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends", which premiered in 1984.

  • I wish they had shows like these now. Growing up in the 80's and early 90's were the best times. We had thinks to look forward to! On the weekdays, we could come home from school, relax, and watch shows like these. On the weekends, we could watch sat cartoons. When I have kids, I will be worried, because they don't have shows like these anymore. They have stupid hannah montana and shows that make kids whining brats. If I ever get in charge of a network, I am going to bring old the tv shows back.

  • yeah dude. i agree!

  • make sure to bring this back :)

  • Thak you....This brings back some of my greatest childhood memories....Its sad that shows like these are no longer on....People and kids of todays genre have no taste or view on what childrens programming really was about...

  • I remember watching this wonderful show on South Carolina ETV back from the mid to late 1990s I believe it was.

  • All those who wish they were young again. Going to school coming home with no worries. Good news. When your old you can live in a retirement home and do it all over again. Instead of school you can go to the golf course or something, then come home and watch old shows on DVD.

  • Listening to this takes me back to my youth...And how much I miss it. When we were kids, we had nothing to really worry about. Wake up in the morning, go to school, come home...I wish I were a kid again...

  • I remember having seen it on Sunday mornings on PBS. This was a great show.

  • Man this bring back alot of memories when I was like 8 or 10 years old , I use to watch this show even in my elementary school, my teacher use to put on tv. They should bring the the re runs....

  • This show bring back so much memories. I used to love this show when I was a kid. Now I'm 23, the shows back then are way better than the shows now. The shows then thought us a lot, they need to BRING THEM BACK!!!!

  • this show was cool

  • i remember this!! i will never forget this great memory!!

  • Oh wow....I remember this...It kinda makes me want to cry xDD

  • Oh wow I have not seen this in over 15 years. Gave me shivers, (good ones hehe) when I saw this. Makes me wanna go back to those good old days =(

  • There was also an alternate Season 1 intro where it featured scenes from various episodes during the character introductions.

  • I remember this show when I was little! It aired on PBS until either 1996 or '97! I remember Schemer & the conductor in this show! I also remember Thomas the Tank Engine! I didn't know that Didi Conn played in this show! She played Frenchy in the movie "Grease" back in the '70s. Thanks for posting this with the funding!

  • I saw this show when it debuted back in the late 80s. I was around 17 babysitting a friend of my family's two boys. It was great!

  • Thanks for uploading the true intro with the funding!

  • WOW! I forgot all about that old WNET logo. That loud music just jumped right into my ears and yanked the memory out from under all the rubble! XD

  • ouch! lol nice description

  • Beautiful childhood memories! Need I say more?

  • Nope I don't think so.

  • Pretty much sums it up.

  • ooo damn this takes me back

  • i love it when i was a kid and still love it now

  • OMG! brings back memories!

  • yes it does. i miss this show.

  • Locomotive is Union Pacific FEF-3 Class 4-8-4 Northern #844. The only locomotive in the US to have never been retired. She is still in excursion service for the Union Pacific, Based in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

  • Yeah, this is nice and all, but one of those castmembers can't stand me. :-P

  • I never saw it with Ringo.

  • I miss this show alot!

  • Me too. I haven't seen that show in years. It was my favotite when I was a little kid.

  • OMG. You just made me the happiest person ever!

  • i believe that engine is 8444

  • I can't help but laugh and smile when I hear the theme songs to my old favourite shows

  • I loved this show.

  • what a classic show..one of the best childhood shows ever

  • i had ALL these on tape!

  • Yeah I was surprised too.

  • the nostalgia is making my eyes bleeed... god i used to looooove this show!

  • I was the biggest Thomas the Tank Engine fanatic when I was small. I used to watch the show and the videos all the time. Good times.

  • I think that Britt Allcroft should put this show out on DVD.

  • i do to but she dont own it no more =(

  • Do you think that you can post it?

  • I don't think she is in charge of this anymore, go for HiT Entertainment. Someone should start a petition for it...

  • I totally agree!

  • Yes, Ringo Starr was the conductor.

  • i only remember a few parts from this show. I used to watch it, but i was still in preschool when they removed it from pbs. :(

  • Ringo Starr and George Carlin were Great in Shining Time Station,Although I Do miss George Carlin

  • I used to love this show when I was little. It also revealed Ringo Starr's existence to me. However, I never knew that he was a Beatle until I saw "Yellow Submarine."

  • Thanks for posting these, brings back a lot of memories. I used to watch this show as a kid.

  • I listened this song on the night of my graduation a few weeks ago. And I cried and cried and cried....

The song (and the show, of course) became a part of my childhood a long, long time ago, and it's been in my heart ever since. And now that I'm moving on to greater things, it really, REALLY speaks to me. T__T ♥ Love you, Shining Time STation!

  • where's the one titled CPB and viewers like you? it said In Part by the corporation for public broadcasting and by the finnancial support from viewers like you? who uploaded that video? it was somewhat in 2006 to december 2007.

  • I saw it on WITF-TV Channel 33.

*WITF-TV is the PBS affiliate in Harrisburg, PA.

  • I Knew George Carlin because of this program in my childhood... and when i knew that he left us... i was shocked...

We will miss you George Carlin

  • Also Ringo Starr was mr conductor

  • He was awsome as that little conducter person.. I always rememebr him and his train whisle. I loved this show so much as i was a kid. I'll miss him and it as well

  • R.I.P. George!

  • It was sad to hear of George Carlin passing. I remember seeing him on Shining Time Station when I was little. If they would do season releases for this show I would defenitly buy them as they came out. I didn't know what Georges true profession was until I saw an HBO special on him and he was saying things that can't be repeated. I was speechless. I thought this is George Carlin and he did the Thomas Stories. Anyway I thought he did a good job as Mr. Conductor RIP George Carlin

  • i dont think this is season 1...didnt season 1 have the different graphics (where the STS logo was in an oval surrounded by a blue screen??)

  • rip george

  • The is show was a DAILY ritual for me & my sister back in the early/mid 90's. PBS actually had a pretty cool line-up with Sesame Street, Barney & Friends, Shining Time Station, Lamb Chop's Play Along, Square One, etc. Later on, we'd tune in to Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? *sigh* Good times. It's sad to hear of George Carlin's passing. He was the best little conductor! Great comedian, great spirit. R.I.P

  • haha i thought i was the only crazyone who remembered that

  • R.I.P George Carlin

  • I loved him as the little conductor, RIP George.

  • I lvoed this show when it was on.

  • I used to watch Shining Time Station on Sundays on WITF 33.

  • Whoa! It's been over a decade since the last time I thought of this show. I was a little kid then. :)

  • I Think Alec Baldiwn Will Play As Mr. Conductor In Season 4!

    Arron Tootleston As Jesse!

    Brandy Tootleston As Melinda!

    Jim Walton as Jackie!

    Sarah Heart As Alcia!

    & Brandon Clarke As Jeremy!

Plus Salty The Dockyard Diesel! & Harvey The Crane Engine!

  • omg this brought a lot of memories..got me teary-eyed.thanx for uploading!time does fly....

  • lol..Schemer..and Sir Topum Hat..

  • Oh my GOD. This show was my life.

  • Ringo starr was good in shining time station

  • a greatvideo

  • This was the best incarnation of Thomas The Tank Engine. For me, this was MY show that I could never miss. When they stopped showing it, I basically bawled my eyes out.

Todays incarnation of Thomas has nothing on this.

  • I loved this show!! I remember the beginning wnet logo the first time I saw it!! The characters in this show were great including the great Mr. Conductor Ringo Starr and George Carlin!!

  • Is this from 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 or 1993?

  • 1989.

  • I'm 19, and I used to watch this ALL the time on PBS. A shame they're no longer running it.

  • This song brings back so many memories! That big engine that is shown at the end of the song is awesome!

  • You Rule man. You are one of the First People to Upload STS eps since trey3036!

  • Strangely, I seem to be addicted to it right now :D

  • Awesome video! Great qaulity for the home video. So many memories coming back.
