@StarryDog98 You're a smart kid then! Glad you appreciate the classics. Check out the original "House on Haunted Hill" from 1958 with the great Vincent Price. Also try "The House of Usher" 1960 and "The Pit and the Pendulum" 1961. Both staring Vincent Price. Very creepy movies even by today's standards. Have Fun!!
This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. I'm 52 now. I was scared to death to go to bed for fear that a canopy would come down on me and suffocate me. I watched it recently and I did better. Lol
@StarryDog98 the original - respect it for what it is. It is good no doubt but you will go ugh at the old make up (mind you i still rekon mini-set, costumes e.t.c are better than CGI for horror films) and the new 1 doesn't exactally pay much respect to it's original but it ain't bad. Enjoy them :)
@krazykittymatt How can you tell a ghosts sexual orientation just by what it's a ghost of? Or are you one of those ignorant people that use the term "gay" meaning "stupid" or "lame"?
@shanemitschke I indeed meant lame and stupid. The lion ghost was super gay. This movie is pretty cool and all, but a lion ghost? Oh yeah, that TOTALLY makes me the ignorant one since you obviously were able to tell my sexual preference as well. For the record, I like dick. But thanks for trying trying to tell a gay guy how to use the word gay Hilary Duff. How about we stick to commenting on the movie.
@superjubblies I knew that I was referring to the fact that they left out the word "to" it says "that will be given you at this theatre" it should say "that will be given TO you at this theatre"
I watched this movie yesterday on youtube. Really good movie. The special effects were amazing,so realistic. These old horror movies are actually scary - the atmosphere,scary music,screaming...everything in them is scary. Not like the new garbage that contains only blood and violent killing.
The DVD release of this has on one side, a pan&scan b&w version. The other side has a wide-screen color print, and you can use the ghost viewer that comes in the package.
after seeing this for the first time i did mad research on the ghosts. turns out there is a similar book you cna buy now that features "the black zodiac" they talk about. needless to say it scared the crap out of me.
Good ol Willy Castle. The man who turned the Theretre into a amusement park. It does not matter if it was scary or not, it was campy, tounge in cheek fun. And that's really the main appeal for me.
I saw this as a 6 year old when it first came out. It scared the living poo out of me.Half the time I was so scared I looked through the blue so I wouldn't see the ghosts. After awhile I got my nerve up and looked through the red screen. Things that scared people back in those days don't scare people now, which is a shame. Graphic violence, blood and guts aren't always necessary to make a film frightening.
@lasktguy I'm 50 now,but when I saw it as a 6yr old,without the glasses,I was terrified.My twin saw the remake,& said it was sooo gory,I'd be sick...no thanks.
thats the thing, these arent graphic my friend, No CG here buddy. Its just all good old acting and make up. Sometimes i wish they this a little more now a days
@Gerold1981 I agree with you totally man. this movie scared the living daylights out of me as a kid and still gives me the creeps when I watch it today. Great minds think alike.
this horror film historian saw this delight in 1960. its on dvd and still fun. margeret hamilton who i knew does very good.. a bit corny i guess for 1960 but a gem a delight innocent fun, good fun, 3 d no less but it still holds up just fine. too bad they doint make old horror greats like this anymore. Praise this film, its going to be around like other minor epics long after we are gone. i can live with that folks. sorry but i call it as i see it. Thanks 13 GHOSTS . TOMK
I didn't knew that 3D viewer toys were being used as ghost viewer. Wow, that thing must be something new and techy during those times in the 60's. And bizarre, LoL!
I saw this when I was a little boy when it first came out. It scared the caacaa out of me back then. I couldn't decide whether to look through the red or blue lense when the ghosts appeared.
We got to see this a few years ago at Regent Square theater in Pittsburgh. They gave out the "ghost viewers" and I had a splitting headache from the after the movie. We had a blast though. I remembered this movie from when I was a kid and I found it in a bargain bin on VHS years back.
