When I was a kid I always assumed the guy singing was a black man that looked something like Louis Armstrong lol.....Love this song, love this group, love David Clayton Thomas!
Many years ago I made this "our" song between my daughter and me. She was creeped out at first that I would even mention my possible death but now she gets it. As I get closer to the grand finale (we all get a turn) she knows how much I am proud of her and know that she will carry on.
None other like Laura Nyro. B.S.&T. performed several of her songs, which then became classics. I first saw B.S.&T. in concert in 1970 at the H.I.C. Arena in Honolulu when I was 15, and saw them last in 1990 at the Ramada Express Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. It was just after David Clayton-Thomas rejoined the reconstituted group and toured for about a year before the group was disbanded for the last time. What a voice he had and OMG those horns! Just awesome!
wish you could hear this the way it sounds on the kenwood...first cd i found....with 1000 in front of me, last winter...when my husband died and we were looking for the right music...he loved music...and this was perfect..."if it's peace you find in dying....bundle up my coffin cu'z it's... crazy cold way down there"... love ya' baby...and i too pray there ain't no hell :)
try writing just one song that sounds good 40 years later. Laura Nyro wrote many and though sadly she was not immortal a load of her songs are. Just great and thanks for posting
Got to see a great deal of DCT in the "Golden Triangle" of Ontario (Toronto, WIndsor strip, basically). He was always amazing, and powerful. Got to see so many other artists on this circuit, including Dom Troiano. It was all quite brilliant!
one of the only songs i liked, really liked, with a horn section. I remember hating CHicago and all that crap from this period, however this BS&T was the exception!
He did not mention her name Laura Nyro's songs and influence have been appreciated by Barbara Streisand, Three Dog Night, Elton John, Todd Rundgren, The fifth Dimension and others
This B,S & T performance with DCT looks even more recent than the 1993 North Sea Jazz Festival gig. Can you tell me when it took place? After the low commercial success of the Jerry Fisher/Jerry LaCroix iteration of the band, the return of DCT as THE band's vocalist seemed destined, despite countless band personnel changes. Yet, Chuck Negron and others have fronted for the band in recent years so it's actually the songs' arrangements which are the band's essence!
When they all came to their senses DCT was not seen as a bad boy after all, but his experiences honed his musical ear for American blues. Canada's lose.
Holy shit! He's still got the voice!!

Now there is a story.
DCT Canadian "bad boy" singing negro music.
When they all came to their senses DCT was not seen as a bad boy after all, but his experiences honed his musical ear for American blues. Canada's lose.
