I was shocked watching these videos after reading somewhere that the hunt was merely a "right of passage" and showed a "maturity" for those who were hunting them. Now that I understand that they are eating the whale meat, I don't see how it's any different to how we get our meat. @imsoboard100 hem, i don't know about that, it swings around, cause of the Global warming, the sea has become hotter and the squid (what pilot eat) has come closer to land, so there are more grind than it has been before, but there its driffrent from year to year, i think it was in 2008 where no grind was. in 2010 we killed 979 whales, and it was 7.096 skin's, 1 skin is 50kilo of whale meat, and 25 kilo of blubber. It was worth around 20 mioDKK and that is around 2,7mioEUR.

Your comment on the fact that killing 500 whales a year will make them extinct is pointless. A population of 200.000 whales, won't just stop reproducing one year and then start again. The annual growth of the whale population grows by 3 - 13% a year. Get it?

I was shocked watching these videos after reading somewhere that the hunt was merely a "right of passage" and showed a "maturity" for those who were hunting them. Now that I understand that they are eating the whale meat, I don't see how it's any different to how we get our meat. The fact of the matter is that the way we all hunt meat is terrible, but with the size of the world's population, what other option do we have? Efficiency is completely necessary for everyone to get fed.

@imsoboard100 hem, i don't know about that, it swings around, cause of the Global warming, the sea has become hotter and the squid (what pilot eat) has come closer to land, so there are more grind than it has been before, but there its driffrent from year to year, i think it was in 2008 where no grind was. in 2010 we killed 979 whales, and it was 7.096 skin's, 1 skin is 50kilo of whale meat, and 25 kilo of blubber. It was worth around 20 mioDKK and that is around 2,7mioEUR.

Faroe Islands is a part of Denmark yes, but they are not members of the EU through Denmark. One of the reasons they aren't is because whalehunting is against EU-laws, and therefore FO don't wan't to be members of EU.
Your comment on the fact that killing 500 whales a year will make them extinct is pointless. A population of 200.000 whales, won't just stop reproducing one year and then start again. The annual growth of the whale population grows by 3 - 13% a year. Get it?

That would be a problem, if the Faroe Islands(FO) were in the EU, but they're not.
The fact of the matter is, that it's socially acceptable and will always be so, to kill pilot whales in the FO. Just like it's socially acceptable to kill farm animals in most other countries.
This is ofcourse because of whale killings has been a part of the faroes culture, (a way of surviving) for all time.
The pilot whale population is 200.000. Killing 500 a year won't make them extinct.

@rogvid The faroe islands is a part of Denmark, and has been that in hundreds of years, so Yes, They are. And you can't compare a whale to a cow, cows are breed, you can't breed a whale, you can't control how they are producing. Maybe one year they won't' reproduce at all, and then you kill another 500, and it's not only you guys, that kills them, there are whalers, there a predators, it can go fast.

OKay, let me tell ALL of you guys something.. The problem is not that this is "unhumane" The problem is, that THIS is againt european law, thats the problem, i am an sea sheperd supporter, and i don't think it's unhumane. It's just against the law. The whales isn't close to extinct, but it is to kill 500 whales, that is too much. And in the end, it will may be the reason that these whales my could get extinct.

You dont get it at all. The most meat we eat is the meat that we breed. Like cows and sheep and chickens. We also manipulate them genetic so they grow faster. Thats what we eat. We dont breed whales do we?? We only kill them. And much faster then they can breed themselves. The killing happens direct and indirect, for example. We poison the sea with loads of rubbish. 90% of the fish in the sea has a too high concentration of metals which are poisonous to us and causes cancer.
