@fmjausmerican - Which side of the belt? I had a Japanese translator provide me with the best Kanji interpretation of our school name - Maximum Impact Karate. The kanji for karate is very easy to recognize Japanese.
@TechTalker34 - This video was originally produced for my student's parents. The first method was intended for parent's of my 4 to 6 yr olds. It leaves a cross in the back but is much easier to teach. Originally, this method you are suppose to slid the one side under the other to achieve the same result of the advanced method, but it's too hard to explain to parents so I just worry about the knot first.
Maybe you should make a video about Reiho or courtesy. Sometimes we may forget ourselves and not show others the common courtesy and respect that we should. Martial Arts or Bujutsu are also about Shin Shin, the cultivation of mind body and soul. If we respect ourselves we are able to truly respect others and what they do. Osu
why would you need to teach advanced karate students how to tie there belt, dont they know how???
Also, the japanese have a very black and white way of looking if something is right or wrong; it's either right or wrong. When you tie your belt, you either tie it the right way or the wrong way. Your easy method is incorrect; it's wrong; schools that teach karate this way are usually Americanized schools or non traditional schools.
@mrtraditional31 - You are correct about the Japanese strong sense of right and wrong. The first method according to them would be incorrect. When I started teaching, I realized I need a step by step method of teaching. The goal is to teach the knot first and the rest later. In our school, belt tying is a requirement that they test for at testing. The standard is a correctly tied belt in less than 30 secs.
@mrtraditional31 I agree that Japanese are very strict about the way things are done. However the first method of tying the belt is neither incorrect or Americanized. I have met lots of Japanese masters that tie their belt that way. Some schools teach it that way. That doesn't make them incorrect.

I can't really get a hang of it and i've sort of watched about 5 videos , i only mess it up, but do you know if the Teacher usually gives lessons or papers ? thanks.
oh, lol i found out the reason it is a size 2 and im nearly fully grown now ^.^ ty for info tho, any way im going to yellow belt soon =D i can do the first kata realy well =D
@victom111 well you'll have to get a bigger belt. and i assume you must be in martial arts if you need that belt, and if you're in martial arts, your gut will lose weight... :)
the first method doesn't cross in the back if you tuck one end under the other, i usually prefer to bring what will end up being my right side on the bottom...
Thanks for the tip! I think it will be helpful to everyone. Yes, I have seen people tuck it before. It's hard to visualize and I wish I had thought to show it in the video.
you should change the characters on your belt theyre in chinese

@victom111 - The advanced method uses a few inches less than the easy method. If this is not enough, I would ask to go up in size for the next test.
