  • Do they still operate these buses? i never see them anymore

  • This bus got converted into Diesel recnetly and it got repower with Detroit Diesel Series 50 EGR and Allison B400R 5-speed transmission with 4th generation controller.

  • Bill, What route was this one? 160 ?

  • 159 from Braid to PoCo

  • i love the wipers on those buses

  • Reminds me of Ride Ons Orion V CNGs. I love that S50G/Voith combo.

  • Check out the few that Montigue M. (MetroLinerXLZ) has on his YT network.

  • Is it true that this bus will sound close to a Gillig with equivalent powertrain if it had a Meritor RC633 rear axle?

  • Sounds like a Adelaide MAN SL202

  • it sounds really bad to me. can you tell me why some engines whistle? say like the NABI 60-SFW and 40-LFW?

  • My guess....it has something to deal with the filters.

You can hear the "pipe scream" (what I like to call it) on buses with a John Deere 6081, Cummins L Gas+, and Detroit Diesel S50G engine. You won't hear it on a C40LF with the C Gas+ engine, as they have that rhythmic hissing noise.

Now in some cases, there may be an overblown turbocharger (on a diesel powered bus) that makes a bus whistle quite loudly. See the video of SEPTA Neoplan 3426, you'll find out.

  • Voiths are also known for retarder whistle.

  • Because the sound from the retarder, the retarder whistle is the unique of Voith transmission~~

  • Whistling is a natural happening stance with most turbodiesel engines.

  • huh?

  • see my moms coworker said that they (some) whistle because of the a/c fan that usually has 5 blades but in the summer need to stuff 6 blades in it and it creates that loud whistle i always hear..if that was understandable...

  • Are there any US properties that run New Flyer C40LFs with the Series 50G and D863.3?

  • i just noticed that this bus has a longer 1st gear than the buses in Las Vegas (CAT)

  • Voiths are known for their deep 1st gear ratio. That's 6.13:1, compared to the Allison B400R's 3.49:1.

  • Another thing I like of this bus (and other New Flyer D40LFs 1998-2003) is their own unique interior noise combined with the drivetrain noise. How's that?

  • Also, are there any C40LFs out there which use the S50G (EGR version) with Voith D863.3 or D864.3?

  • None of them, coz' we don't have S50G (EGR Version) C40LF~~

  • How did you make the transitions in this video from the bus departing the garage to you inside of the bus?

  • Were there any buses in fleet #3283-3308 that received both the Cummins CG280 and Allison B400R5 following their recommission?

  • None of them received Cummins CG280 and Allison B400R5 when they're recommissioned~~

3290 was received Allison B400R5 with original Detroit Series 50G engine~~

3288, 3292, 3302, 3306-3308 were received Cummins Westport C Gas Plus 280 engine and retain the original Voith Diwa 863.3 transmission~~

  • Nice sounds more like a detroit diesel seires 50 man i wish these buses are on service in vancouver so it will be good usualy these buses are operating in Coquitlam new flyer buses rock w00t lol noob.

  • why do engines get their sound?

  • the ever spinning radiator fans and the RTS's natrually loud exhaust

  • Where was this filmed?

  • In vancouver. In between the skytrain (the overpass you see) and a highway. I think it's in central Burnaby at Sperlink Skytrain Station.

translink DOT bc DOT ca /Maps/skytrain_maps.asp#burnaby

  • The pre-letter seen on this bus is P, so this bus was garaged from Port Coquitlam.

  • Yes, P mean Port Coquitlam (PoCo)

  • Nope, apparently I was filming at the following area~~

    Braid Skytrain Station

Lougheed Hwy (Between King Edward to Schoolhouse)

    Mary Hill Bypass

Mary Hill Rd. (Between Pitt River Rd. to Wilson St.)

  • Please tell me, are there any C40LFs throughout North America which use the Cummins L10G with Voith DIWA863.3?

  • nope. closest you'd get to an L-10 powered New Flyer 40LF is WMATA of Washington D.C. They have ISM/Voith 864.4ADRs. I beleive there's another property in the US that uses ISLs/Voiths but i cant think of the name

  • Tri-Met of Portland, OR has New Flyers with the ISL and D864.3E. MTA Maryland of Baltimore, MD, uses the ISM and D864.3E in their New Flyer D40LFs.

  • Ride-On of Montgomery County, MD operates a handful of Orion VII 35' buses with this drivetrain.

  • MetroLinerXLZ has a few videos of these now.

  • Actually sounds quiet, compared to the blaring roar of many diesel engines.

  • yea right! Ride Cleveland's 1998 NovaBus RTS's. Series 50G/Allison VR-731 ATEC and they are jus as loud as their diesel powered brothers.
