The ceremony was beautiful, but in retrospect I have one question: Why was the eagle wrestled out of the carrier? At one point he was even upside down in his frantic efforts to get away. Why not let him walk out of the carrier, look around, spread his wings, and fly off when he was ready, with dignity and calm?
that's a good question. The way it was explained to me was that the man handling the release was not experienced.
From a practical point of view, while inside the carrier, the juvenile had his legs bound (I guess to prevent injury to himself and to the handler), so before it was released the bounds needed to be removed. But you are right, the process was cumbersome and not well handled. These people are one step above volunteers after all!
the release with the singing...a most holy moment...to think it is wild and free again!!!Thanks for filming Keta! and thanks to all who participated in this great occasion!!
Beautiful video, Keta. To see this rehabilitated eagle gracefully fly into the sky is a joyful sight! The singing is very special. Thank you Keta, OWL, ravinspirit, and everyone who contributed to this this magnificent eagle's release into the wild. Five stars!
It was an honour too take part in this ceremony, i felt the energy of this great bird through too the evening, i will remember this moment for a long time to come, thanks to the organizers for asking me to sing.
yeah it was! I thought it was also cool how the fellow handled such a powerful bird so carefully, in taking out of the carrier then cradling it before letting it go.
Alaska is such a calm and beautiful place. I will travel there when i get older :)

And thank you so much for doing it! You added a wonderful dimension to the experience, making the actual release something close to mystical.

That was neat to be able to see the release, cool that the eagle circled around before disappearing! Thanks for posting.
