I am living in Indiana and volunteered and adopted from a local rescue. I have seen some pretty bad cases but the life that pony had to endure was awful! Good job at least you cared enough to help. Let me know of any way I can help you in the future. I have 2 horses and not alot of money. I can help with time or contacting law makers.
aww this is so sad, who the hell would do sumthing lyk this,?? they wouldnt lyk it to be dun to them so why do they do it??
argh it makes me soo angry that people are so...so careless and dont think wat they r doing, she didnt deserve it, well it didnt seem lyk it. just think. lucky u saved her, sum horses/ponys/ animals are still out there now suffering, and i really wish i coulsd save them and do a great job lyk u ! :) x
there is a lot of abuse and neglect here in Texas too. most people turn a blind eye, and the law is too lax to get enough done. At least in Bastrop and Travis Counties.
that is absolute insanity. This video makes me so incredibly angry. I do not understand how a human being could allow a creature to get in this condition. God bless you for saving this pony and for not giving up on her. It amazes me that animals are so forgiving that they would still trust people after going through something like this. Thankyou so much for rehabilitating her. It makes me sick to think that for every animal rescued, there are more out there that are being abused that are unknown
What state are you in? If you want me to try and help, please email me. I have managed to get the authorities out to look at a horse in CA (from Indiana)...you just have to be pushy :). I hate to think of those poor donkeys in that condition.
This is so incredibly sick. You are amazing. Truly, amazing. You should be ever so proud of your good work on helping this adorable mini horse. Good luck, and I am very sorry for what had to be done. I wish you were a little closer to my area, there are 8 donkey's by my home. They are all in Pheobe's condition. And every week or so, a donkey is missing. Not because they are sold, but because they perished. Humane Society's are doing nothing. Keep up your amazing work! :)
Yes, she had no coffin bone left in one foot and had only part of a coffin bone in the other. She eventually succumbed to the pain and was euthanized.
I am so sorry that she had to suffer like that. My heart breaks as she looks like such a sweet pony and so beautiful. My sympathies to her new family, but at least she died knowing someone loved her and enjoying those last few months. I am just sorry no one could get to her earlier. Keep up the good work.
My utmost respect for all the people who have a heart for all living beings, speak up for them and help them. At least this horse had some good time. As owner of an animalshelter I've seen enough and I really don't understand how one can treat animals so bad. They feel, they suffer, no matter if it's a horse, cow, rat. Their nervesystem is sharper than ours, their senses are better so they experience abuse at least as intense as we do, if not worse
She looked so good!! now mind you i know little about horses ... I would have asumed those hooves would have lead to her being put down...
Have they made any progress in Indiana ... there were a large number of horses in really bad shape in the evansville area about 2 years back ... all on the same farm and it took forever to get them rescued because of some querks in Indiana law and/or the falure of agencies to work together....
No. No progress in Indiana. There are very few laws that protect any animal in this state. With Congressman like Mark Souder (who supports inhumane treatment at Shipshewana auction)...well, we can't expect much more :(....someone once called Indiana a "Black Hole" for animals and I think for an animal in the wrong hands it really is a hole. :( But there are good people doing what they can in IN too...so we're not ALL bad :). The laws are horrible though.
Just as she was on top of her game again and in MUCH better condition, it turned out that my new best friend was suffering from Fatty Liver Disease and her liver was shutting down. We lost her because the old fart we bought her from left her in a field, let her get too fat, and she died. It's a long term disease and we only had her two months. He didn't care and it was obvious by the way he treated her.
I had a miniature horse with a similiar problem. When we agreed to buy her, the man climbed over her to pin her down so he could get a halter on her, she wasn't very well halter trained, but the sweetest thing ever! Her hooves were curled, she wouldn't eat anything buy grass, hay, and grain, and was very nervous. (Continued in next comment)
after reading the description and seeing the video, i think the only thing i can say is, thank you. thank you for people like you who have the heart enough to do something, and taking the opportunity to do it. i know there are a lot of people who would've passed it by.

that is so sad i read the discription same on her old old owner! that is very very very very sweet, caring and nice that you did that. i love that you did that. it brings tears to my eyes so easily. i think that is the nicest thing i have heard that anyone have done to a horse before. Thats so good that she is happy and has life. my pony has arthritis too. I made a video asbout it too. I love that you did that for that sweet inisinant horse. god bless your soul. god bless Phoebe soul too!!!!!!!!
it just shows the two extremes of people, the vile b*stards that left the poor little mite to suffer deliberately and the angels who saved it, bless the little thing, thank god for the good people of this earth.
why was she put down...she looked as if she was getting sooo much better. she could walk happily and everything???? sometimes i wish people will give them more than one chance to show that they call pull through..... no offence to you thought... i know the bone disolved.
she was in a hole?!?! What the hell??? Poor pony. I hate that he had a nice trailer but couldn't take care of her!!! Thanks god she got to live her life out nicely in the end :)
She couldn't actually walk, so she sort of dug herself a hole from standing and shuffling side-to-side in the same spot. It was about 2 feet deep. I will never forget that sight as long as I live. And I will never forget the feeling of hopelessness that eminated from her. 2 years later and I still tear up recalling that moment.
OK that made me cry..1st for the suffering she went though with that horrible man..2nd for the happy ending to her story! God Bless you for saving her.
people who do that to horses seriously need to be beaten...I also rescue horses and my mare has been battling her whole life to live..she turns 12 March 26...a miracle consitdering she wasnt suppose to hit 3. Congrats to a beautiful horse for keeping her spirit up to survive and to you who helped her do it :)
My heart broke for her. How wicked of that man he should be named and shamed world wide. Thankyou for recueing her. Is it true that she was eventualy put sleep?
wat a gorgeous pony it is good that you saved her but why did you send her away i thought you would have kept her.. well i know i would have.. hey if you want have a look at my vids that i made about my horses
Hi, thanks! We live in the north where there is nothing but grass...she wasn't able to be on grass or she would founder again (badly) so she went to AZ where there were less lush places as well as a more temperate climate for her srthritic body.
ohk fair enough.. both my horses are on grass all year round but I guess our grass doesnt stay lush all year round.. my horses have never founded but I do worry about it sometimes my oldest horse Jazz has been fed on only grass her hole life but i do try to bablance it out a bit in summer when there is no feed around. what is the song called at the start of the video? I really like it.
That poor pony. It's how she was to heal and live (for sometime, I read your other response comment). I don't see how someone can be so mean to a pet. When my dog has even the smallest cut, I freak out.
Hi NightMosher...thanks for the comment. I am the admin for an exracers forum. Send me a message if you'd like the link - we'd love to hear more about your ottb!
Unfortunately, she was put down a couple months ago. I updated the information and commented a page or two ago. The years of neglect were too much to overcome, but she died with a lot of love surrounding her and she wasn't standing in that hole.
She had YEARS of neglect that got her to where she was when I found her. The photo's only show 2 months of recovery....it takes a hell of a lot longer than that to recuperate. And and she was wracked with arthritis and had NO coffin bone. Her skeleton was actually deformed from standing in a heaving position in that hole.
When the hoof is not trimmed properly when they founder the heel grows faster, and pushes the toe out and up. In Phoebe's case, she was so small the hoof closed on the bottom and she had no sole. The deformity also wore away her coffin bone.
my name is Phoebe ands i love Minis and that video almost mad me cry and now im thinking about adoptinga mini with a need like that or that was abused or somethingWell thatx:D
im am so happy that people like you are in our world!! .. i would have done the same thing.. doesn't matter if you dont have the money ore something other people will help you .. everything is better than leaving the horse with the terrible owner. but i dind't cry for the first time in my life when seeing animal torture..because i know that she has had a good life at the end
What a wonderful thing you did, we have just rescued 2 mini mules who were used by an outfitter, they are around 20 years old with feet that have not been trimmed in over 5 years. They are now in their new home. Thank you for what you do.
Aww i think that is amazing! I am posibly looking to buy a horse but am not sure whether to rescue one or buy a trained and healthy one but after seeing this video it makes me want to save a horse!
If you are experienced and have a trainer you could always consider an off track thoroughbred from a TB placement program :). You can also find a healthy horse at a rescue and make room for another horse...:)
She is a little sore these days...but she has an amazing will to go on. I've had other horses who were not as sore that would just give up. Phoebe is somethin' else ;) She is with Chances Mini Horse Rescue in AZ, BTW.
Phoebe was helped over the Bridge Saturday...the pain became too much. Her new family did everything they could but the years of neglect caught up with her. She died knowing that humans can care though. Thanks so much for your interest.
LOL...I wish I could have. I sort of looked at it like this: at least he handed her over to me. He could have been a real jerk and made me buy her - I think the tiniest part of his heart knew he'd done something wrong. That was the best I could do. I did think about slashing his tires though ;).
It is horrible to think that someone would do that to a horse...Thank you for helping her, she is a beautiful little pony and I hope the best for her, she will be in my prayers.
She is tiny, and that has saved her. Any normal sized horse would have had to have been put down, or gone down on their own and not have been able to get back up. As I've said, she's not normal now as her coffin bones are practically gone, and she has set-backs (right now she is sore from what I've been told)...but she desrved a chance to enjoy life a little before the neglect took her life. Thanks for you comment!
god, I've seen horses who have been mistreated before but her feet when you first rescued her are unbelieveable, how could anyone ever do that to their animal? I'm so glad there are people like you, to make up, in a way, for the disgusting people who inflict such pain on such gorgeous animals. she is beautiful <3 x
Thank you for your comments. Please keep Phoebe in your thoughts...I've been told that she's began to appear sore over the last few weeks. We have known all along that her life would probably be shortened because of the previous neglect, but we'd hoped she'd have at least a few happy years. Prayers, good thoughts and positive energy are all appreciated. She is still in AZ but now with a Chances Mini Horse Rescue board member.
I can't believe what people do to animals. Makes me sick but then there are people like you. How wonderful you took her on. Thank you for being so kind. She is beautiful and so lucky. God Bless you!!!
How can people do this to these beautiful animals. I'm glad there are people like you in our world. My dream is to own 1000 hectares of open plains here in Australia, and to collect all the neglected, unwanted horses and set them free in my sanctuary of horsie love.
Nicely done video and a great story. I have a retired TB racehorse that was rescued by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. There are so many wonderful horse rescue organizations. Sadly, the thing these organizations need most are caring volunteers like yourself, adoptive families and donations.
Thanks everyone. If you knew Phoebe, you'd know why we did it. Sadly though I've just recieved news that she is struggling right now - dealing with a lot of pain. Keep her in your thoughts please.
I'm assuming she has severe chronic laminitis. It's a terrible disease, but it's nice to know that you guys gave her a chance that her old owner would not even bother with. I hope you reported him.
Yes, she is constantly laminitic - she has no coffin bones left. :( We did not report the owner as she had "access" to food...too bad she couldn't walk to get to it. The State of Indiana is clueless when it comes to animal welfare. Thanks for your comment.
The State of Indiana is clueless when it comes to animal welfare. That is an understatement ! but, given the incidence of child and spousal abuse; I suppos it 's not surprising I spent 2 years there
This is one of the most touching vids I've seen. Thank God there are people out there who will put in the effort of saving a wonderful animal like Phoebe. You are wonderful!
I don't know what to say. at least in the end she felt part of a group that cared for her.
Thank you for what you did.

stupidblond428a 4 years ago
She was about 40 inches high and between 10 and 15 years old. Thanks for you comment.

Oh my God, I'm so sorry - at least she went happy though. It's unbelievable that people like the person you saved her from exist. RIP Phoebe.

What a wonderful thing you did, we have just rescued 2 mini mules who were used by an outfitter, they are around 20 years old with feet that have not been trimmed in over 5 years. They are now in their new home. Thank you for what you do.

What you did is amazing !! Congratulations !!

Aww i think that is amazing! I am posibly looking to buy a horse but am not sure whether to rescue one or buy a trained and healthy one but after seeing this video it makes me want to save a horse!
CambriaStableshauna 4 years ago
If you are experienced and have a trainer you could always consider an off track thoroughbred from a TB placement program :). You can also find a healthy horse at a rescue and make room for another horse...:)
tracerace66 4 years ago
Hi I love the video about pheobe! I think its wonderful what you did! have you heard anything about her in her new home? i would really like to know!
CambriaStableshauna 4 years ago
She is a little sore these days...but she has an amazing will to go on. I've had other horses who were not as sore that would just give up. Phoebe is somethin' else ;) She is with Chances Mini Horse Rescue in AZ, BTW.

Phoebe was helped over the Bridge Saturday...the pain became too much. Her new family did everything they could but the years of neglect caught up with her. She died knowing that humans can care though. Thanks so much for your interest.

stoopid idiot cruel deserve-to-die farmer who kept that beautiful horse like that!
gr8 story, i luved it when she came out onto the grass :) U are very kind and generous

Poor pony thank god you found her. Did you go back and put a bullet between that idiot farmers eyes? God knows he deserves it!!
boofheadrules 4 years ago
LOL...I wish I could have. I sort of looked at it like this: at least he handed her over to me. He could have been a real jerk and made me buy her - I think the tiniest part of his heart knew he'd done something wrong. That was the best I could do. I did think about slashing his tires though ;).
tracerace66 4 years ago
It is horrible to think that someone would do that to a horse...Thank you for helping her, she is a beautiful little pony and I hope the best for her, she will be in my prayers.

she looks so sweet i hope she has a great home with u!

I'm so glad there are people like you, to make up, in a way, for the disgusting people who inflict such pain on such gorgeous animals. she is beautiful <3 x
mollymillymoo 4 years ago

Bless you for helping this little girl! What is the first song you used in the video? It's so beautiful (just like Phoebe)

Keep her in your thoughts please.
tracerace66 5 years ago
I'm assuming she has severe chronic laminitis. It's a terrible disease, but it's nice to know that you guys gave her a chance that her old owner would not even bother with. I hope you reported him.
DeniseNY1 5 years ago
Yes, she is constantly laminitic - she has no coffin bones left. :( We did not report the owner as she had "access" to food...too bad she couldn't walk to get to it. The State of Indiana is clueless when it comes to animal welfare. Thanks for your comment.
tracerace66 5 years ago
The State of Indiana is clueless when it comes to animal welfare. That is an understatement ! but, given the incidence of child and spousal abuse; I suppos it 's not surprising I spent 2 years there
