It's a really neat idea. I hated the movie (I'm not a fan of cars), but this looks like it will be a really fun ride, especially for people who liked the movie. :)

Lets hope it opens in 2012 on time. Not unlike Test Track which was supposed to open originally May 1997 19 months after World of Motion closed. But due to computer problems and the wear and tear of the tires Test Track didnt open until March 1999.

@small5th You were familar with the fact that Test Track was supposed to originally open in May 1997.Because part of the deal with General Motors was that they would remove World of Motion and rehab the Pavilion Interior Space for 19 Months into Test Track.

I know what you mean. But earlier this year, they had a test car on a finished part of the track and put its through its paces, so it seems that they are trying to anticipate any problems early on.

No, this will not be a motion simulator at all. People will ride in a car on a track, and the vehicle's chaise will remain still. There will be be fast speeds though. :-)

Yes, that is my understanding.

And as I understand it, the characters will probably have animated eyes. (Similar to Mr. Potato Head at the Toy Story Midway Mania ride)

Also, I have heard that some of the characters will have animated (projected) mouths, depending on what works best for them.

If you do a youtube search for "D23 2009 Cars Land overview" you can see a test for a Lighting McQueen character for the ride.

i'm not at all excited about this new carsland they're making. it's too specific of a land when you think about it. if u look at other lands such as new orleans square, there's a lot of different story telling there. cars land is just radiator springs. u cant put any different stories that are not part of pixar's cars movie. side filler stories yes but that is all

other than that, i am interested about this attraction set up. looks pretty cool and am interested to ride it once it arrives.

Well, Radiator Springs was on Route 66, so that's why the are just creating the town. It fits for the California theme. :-)

I checked out Google earth and found that Zion national park Utah is where to look for a highway with that spectacular view. Together with the canyon and the rest of the rout 66 I have pulled together the best cars-inspired trip of my life. Me and my son will travel all the way from sweden to Florida, then via all the music spots and vacationland in TS, through the midwest to Badlands SD and black hills , to rocky mts CO, then route 66 NM and AZ via canyon to Zion, UT and Las Vegas and last LA.

This will be in Disney California Adventure park, on the site of the former parking lot behind the park.

The Little Mermaid ride is being built on the former site of the Golden Dreams attraction in Disney California Adventure.

this reminds me of test track in epcot except it attracts more little kids, which is probably a smart idea since some kids might not want to go on a ride where you'll be a crash dummy, so I can't wait

That's because you are just looking at a test car with none of the sets and mountains built yet.

Its the same ride system, but the experience is going to be completely different.

Well from what I have heard, they choose this ride system because it was the closest thing to being in an actual car, with the wheels touching the ground and the whole high-speed racing aspect.

@DisMupPix010 So in the film, in all those little buildings it's food court after food court after food court? I didn't know there were so many food courts in radiator springs!!!! I just think Imagineering could have planned something more spectacular in that spot. But if John Lassiter wants his characters in the park, it's what he gets.

@aceladude2251 It's the same ride system as Test Track with improvements. Hopefully they learned from the headaches they encountered with TT initially, and the opening months won't have breakdown after breakdown.
