@whatsleft100 I don't think it's a "genuine" KLF mix/version; I think this 12Inch version (which features on the American Arista 12Inch Vinyl and CD releases) is the result of a mix engineer's "cut and shut" of the "Stand By the Jams" and "All Bound For Mu mu land" versions.
Ahhh c'mon, Tammy was just trying to copy what Dusty did with Pet Shop boys....rofl, and this was the first song that came along she thought she could rock out. Bless you Ms. Tammy...now get back to your D-I-V-O-R-C-E.... :-D
@arglwyddanfradwrus I love Tammy Wynette, and I'm 15 but I bought a CD today and it had this song, I didn't like it. It's different but I perfer her normal stuff. And yes, all respect to Tammy!!
I think the cows are trying to eat some "hey hey"...Hello! Would you eat ice cream that wasn't chill(ed)? I -- sometimes a lunatik--- am also a seeker of mu...! sick!
When it came out thought it was about some groovy cows driving an ice cream van on the way to moo moo land, only to discover the train had left an hour ago so they decided to have a rave instead. What IS it about?
@faunflynn I know the Justifed Ancients Of Mu Mu is lifted from "The Illuminatus!". I was meaning that Cauty and Drummond probably had no idea what was meant with "mu mu land", going on a train that left an hour ago, etc etc!
It's funny how music can make impressions. When I hear this I'm reminded of test driving a Toyota Paseo back in the early 90's. It came on while I was driving the car and the beat made me want to speed. Lol.
@ApollyonCruiser LMAO!!!!!!!!!! I remember when this (well the 7-inch version!) was always played on the radio. Every time I turned on the radio, it would be what was being played... As much as I like KLF, I did get quite annoyed hearing it sooo much!
I remember when the song was released..and I thought it was aso talking about the wild mustangs...they are justified and ancient..maybe I am wrong..but I thought that was partially what this song was dedicated to...
Well, I have it on the "The White Room" and "Justified & Ancient" CD combo by Arista. (07822-12403-2)
I think it also features on the Arista 12-inch vinyl version too (But not on the 12-inch vinyl 'KLF Communications' UK release, nor the 12-inch vinyl 'Blow-Up' German release)
What does the title and lyric symbolise? "The justified Ancients of Mu" and all that talk about "mu mu land"
Sounds a bit silly, but I know it must mean something, (some kind of message?) these guys were seen as pretty controversial or rebellious, in terms of the music scene of their time (or were they not?)
I've never heard of the time lords, I'll give them a look, cos I grew up with stuff like KLF and Altern8, 808 state etc. My dads CD's, but I always used to take them.
If I inherited only 2 good things, then its his taste in music, and fixation with music production!
I could listen to this kind of stuff, and dub, and jungle till the days when I'm getting bogged down by grandkids, telling them stories of when music was music!
Island Monkey, your into that game I take it? Point n Clickers FTW!
Is there a version where Tammy sang more than the two parts? I have a memory of her also singing the lyrics "There justified and their ancient, and they know what time is love...."
The only version I know of with those lyrics is the version on "The White Room" (which I think is the same on all variants of "The White Room" album) However, that version is sung by Black Steel, a MALE singer!
Maxine sings the lyrics ".. at 3AM Eternity rang, she knew what time was love..." on both the demo and "All Bound For Mu Mu Land" versions of J&A, but those are not the lyrics you specified!
Unless a demo with Tammy singing those lyrics was made.... if so, I would LOVE to acquire it! :)
MuMu land as in Music Land

Let's clear this up... it's MUMU land. As in Justified Ancients of MUMU (tthe JAMs).

I found the lyrics hard to follow when I was off my face in 1991. But its just as messy 20 years later with a clear head.

"The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu" was taken from Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson's cult book of the 60's, "The Illuminatus".
I think "Mu Mu Land" and so on spurned from their "extension" of the Shea and Wilson thing!

BTW, Only one of them (Bill Drummond) was a 'jock' (Scotsman). The other (Jimmy Cauty) was from Devon

I'm not a fan of C&W but this and "The Wanderer" (the song Johnny Cash did with U2) are a couple of my all-time favourites.
Awesome stuff. Well done.
