Ok, you got me. I watched this clip and in my perception deemed that it had nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. If perhaps the caption would have said, "To be taken in context with the rest of the movie" then I would have refrained from such a quick judgement. In any case, it's a great song by a great artist. Can't speak on the movie because I have not seen it.

Because a CLIP was posted (out of context, being only a PART of the whole), and I admitted I hadn't seen the movie, and you jump all over me for stating an opinion of a small CLIP posted here? @junglestud Obvious troll comment. You have never seen the movie yet you know the scene has nothing to do with a song? You can say that about anything when it's out of context of the whole. Sure the song is about cocaine, and this clips is the kid walking from the school office after being questions about a murder. So yes in a literal sense they aren't related on the surface, but on an emotional level it deals with personal internal struggles which can't easily be resolved.

i'm sorry to ask but are you a girl or a boy? either way i am a boy and i can't see that movie without crying. Gus Van Sant is a my favourite director/producer. It is the only american producer that i love. His movies are very good. Blake Nelson, the writer is very talented. The boy that plays Alex Tremain is great. And Elliot Smith is my favourite singer. He is very skilled. Elliot come to this world to make us express ourselves with his lyrics and feeling. He was truly a gift for the world.
