Ok, you got me. I watched this clip and in my perception deemed that it had nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. If perhaps the caption would have said, "To be taken in context with the rest of the movie" then I would have refrained from such a quick judgement. In any case, it's a great song by a great artist. Can't speak on the movie because I have not seen it.
Obvious troll comment...? Because a CLIP was posted (out of context, being only a PART of the whole), and I admitted I hadn't seen the movie, and you jump all over me for stating an opinion of a small CLIP posted here? Apologies for not running out to watch the movie so I could make a more knowledgeable comment that you agree with. BTW, how do you know the song is specifically about cocaine? The "White Lady" actually refers to HEROIN. For what it's worth.
@junglestud dude. you're the one overreacting. you flat out said "the scene from the movie has nothing to do with Elliott's lyrics." @cjhatesu was letting you know that in context the song is somewhat fitting. by you saying you've never seen the movie and don't know what's going on, but then claiming the scene has nothing to do with the song is pretty contradicting. there is a bit of a discrepancy for what "the white lady" means. some people say cocaine, others say heroin. for what it's worth.
I have never seen this movie. But I know what this song is about, and the scene from the movie has nothing to do with Elliott's lyrics. Nice clip though.
@junglestud Obvious troll comment. You have never seen the movie yet you know the scene has nothing to do with a song? You can say that about anything when it's out of context of the whole. Sure the song is about cocaine, and this clips is the kid walking from the school office after being questions about a murder. So yes in a literal sense they aren't related on the surface, but on an emotional level it deals with personal internal struggles which can't easily be resolved.
Truly beautiful movie. But when in the movie was Angeles played? I thought it was while he was walking through the corridor, but obviously I was wrong :/
A story that you can believe today , kids skate boarding hanging out and meeting people. Then making a wrong decision one night and how that can follow and affect you.
its about a kid who´s a skate boarder: he´s a newbie so he went to Paranoid Park (a skateboard park..) so he could learn some new skills, there he meets some dudes..., anyway he and his new friend accidentally kill a guard at a train station, great why to die, but i wont tell you how he died, better watch the movie XD
great song, the song is about Elliott (WITH 2 "Ts") Smith's addiction to heroin, and a very moving song at that, i read the end at him dying or being so overcome with guilt that he kills himself...
PS this film aint as good as Elephant, though the 2 are incomparible, Elephant winning the Palm D'or n' all
i'm sorry to ask but are you a girl or a boy? either way i am a boy and i can't see that movie without crying. Gus Van Sant is a my favourite director/producer. It is the only american producer that i love. His movies are very good. Blake Nelson, the writer is very talented. The boy that plays Alex Tremain is great. And Elliot Smith is my favourite singer. He is very skilled. Elliot come to this world to make us express ourselves with his lyrics and feeling. He was truly a gift for the world.
man...dont that bring back the days...i loved to ride my board with my cousings and friends...i dont know why, but it allways seemed better to ride with your mattes then to do it all alone...
What movie is that? and the kid looks like he is wearing an Elliott wristband.

elliott didnt get into heroin until the new millenium, though he said he often brought drugs into his music as a vehicle to describe dependency.
