The fact that 2 rival promotions (and even more since this year) decide to get together and pull such a show, should tell yout that this is not as much as money as it is about love for Wrestling...
Compare the business in Japan today to where it was ten years ago. Do you think that they are giving away tousands of free tickets to Tokyo dome events out of charirty?
All the major wrestling promotions in Japan have lost their prime time tv slots as well, which has done terrible damage.
I agree. The 10-man tag match was not the best usage of those wrestlers. Especially when you have New Japan and All Japan's junior champs on that match. It's a bit of a waste of talent, when you had the potential to make two dream matches.
True. But the main focus of the event was on Mutoh/Chono vs. TenKoji, Suzuki vs. Nagata, Tanahashi vs. Kea and Kawada vs. Nakamura.
However, I'm also referring to the opening itself, I was expecting to see more of the juniors in it than Tiger Mask, especially taking in fact how many of them reach success, not only at Japan, but also in a worldwide scale. Liger, Sasuke, Guerrero, Jericho, Benoit...
That's Shohei "Giant" Baba. He was pretty monstrous. The poignant thing about that picture is that the one on the left is Antonio Inoki, the founder of New Japan Pro Wrestling. Giant Baba was the founder of All Japan Pro Wrestling. Those are the two companies that were represented on that wrestling card.
great movie. and singer is stardust revue. of song 夢伝説'(yumedensetsu). meaning is "legends of the dream". japanese 80' hit song. check this band's youtube live.
Well I'm definately glad you liked the opening vid NJPW provided. I'm also glad you are getting into Puroresu, there's always room for more in the pool!!! XD I remember the first time I saw this video for the show... I literally had goosebumps watching it!!!
Thanks for the comment. When I saw it for the first time, my eyes actually glassed up a bit. That video is a beautiful tribute to all those that made puroresu the art it is today.
For me, I loved the opening "Funny Waltz" and the "Junior Collaboration." The Triple Crown bout was brutally sweet. The IWGP Heavyweight Title bout was smoothly paced. The Shinya Hashimoto tribute at the end felt really heartfelt.
beautiful video the golden years of puroresu.

wrestling in japan is in huge trouble that's why they become desperate and work together.

@DarkPascual Not really. I mean..it's 2009, they're hardly rivals.

What an awesome opening for WK...I think it missed a lot of the juniors, though...

Song is by Stardust Revue. It's called "Yumedensetsu."
bfsnorlax 3 years ago
Who's the guy who Inoki gets into a slap-fest with at 0.50-0.54?

You're damn right it does bobbycalvin. It really shows how much history this business has, and the immortals that have made it what it is today.

Yeah, I have found a few Stardust Revue songs there, but there's one pay site that does have Yumedensetsu.

It's the opening vid to Wrestle Kingdom 1. I don't know the name of the singer or song, though I would LOVE to know.

What is the name of the first song on this video?

This was a really great opening vid. I'm fairly new to puroresu so I'm glad to see the history, especially when so beautifully done.
1:59 - Tiger Mask pulling the cleanest and most perfect suplex I've ever seen. Talk about "bending like a reed in the wind"! Freakin' wow.
Thanks for posting this. ^_^
