  • Thank this man for his dental floss, and his great music!

  • Love this song : - )

  • "A composer is a guy who goes around forcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules, often with the assistance of unsuspecting musicians"

    FZ

  • For the guitar players 2:00

  • raise it up and wax it down

  • the "yippie yi yo ty yay" at the end is the best part.

  • @PlumpTiger I also like the "keep the wax, and melt it down".

  • Oh for lands sake i left the i out.

  • Oh for lands sake. I stll have this album.

  • The verse after the guitar solo is being sung by Tina Turner and the Ikettes.

  • YIPPIEEYEOHTIEAYY!!!!!!!!

  • @JestersGeneration COOL :)

  • @JestersGeneration It's starting to really catch on!

  • @JestersGeneration Dude??

  • @JestersGeneration AWESOME! DUDE..

  • @JestersGeneration kool trak!

  • can't... stop... listening... over... and over.... my teeth so squeakin kleen baby :D

  • Phyletic sent me ... (0.O.0) ...

  • Just LISTEN to all the sh!t happenin' in this tune....

    Magnificent!

  • most of best solo ever maid...

  • 5 people don't floss.

  • I became a music fan right after Jimi Hendrix death. I can't speak to all of his playing. But this particular solo is my favorite, Free Ride, Lynryd Skynrd next

  • tina turner doing the back up vocals. pretty awesome especially the middle part. read they had to rehearse 2 days straight just to get the back up vocals after the guitar solo.

  • @jmat412 Sounds like BS to me. I had the LP and all the musicians as well as the vocals were listed with pictures and I don't recall TT being among them.

  • @BA5966 I read this too. The story is that Tina and the Ikettes (or whatever Ike and Tina's backup singers were called) did this. Tina was really proud of it (she should be - amazing vocal performance) and played it for Ike, and he was like, what the fuck is this shit? I.e. it's weird.

  • @gyniest Barry Miles' biography.

  • @gyniest Just looked up the wiki page of this album and it says TT and the Ikettes or whatever were uncredited back-up singers. Thanks very much and you learn something every day. If we can trust wiki, that is...

  • @BA5966

she was uncredited but it is confirmed she is the female back up on the song.

  • @jmat412 right story, wrong song. It was Uncle Remus, off Apostrophe.

  • Just LISTEN to all the stuff goin' on here. Music, lyrics....Zappa was a genius.

  • Long time ago, but always in my heart...

  • Zappa and Rush... moral issues, but awesome meditation

  • Thanks Frank!! You inspired me to move to Montana!!

  • Frank Zappa made Jimmy Hendricks look like spanky... This guy was Mozart of the 20th century... You would be suprised at how much you have heard his music and didn't know it by name anyways. Wasn't just his crazy albums folks................ This guy made his money composing formal music and had fun blowing it on his crazy fun stuff. Check it out!

  • I read once that he would fine his band members up to 300.00 per note while recording when they F'd up whilst recording in the studio!!! ..True story!

  • !....tweezers gleaming in the moonlighty night......! bubbling xylophone thingy... magic sound

  • Saw "Zappa Plays Zappa" on the 29th of November (2011) and they opened with this! Phenomenal gig, it was technically brilliant. Dweezil did his father proud! So grateful to have been there, it was a fantastic night! I urge EVERYONE to go if they can!

Now just to get me some dental floss...

  • Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Frank Zappa - all poets, all geniuses, all musicians, all different. God, I love diversity.

  • so much going on and having it all come together is truly amazing, the man was a genius....and never got the recognition he deserves. (yippy yi yo ty yay!)

  • Comment removed

  • "if we must become what we hate, I hate myself! I guess I'm finally becoming me!"

mahogany jones @mhogjones (thanx frank...couldn't have done it witout you!)

  • Great solo...!

  • remember this was an anolog recording ( played it down perfect all at once).....that means something

  • As a clasically trained musician; this arrangment and composition is very complex and creative. this man is a n inovator, and thats real talk.ps. ask George Duke.

  • keep the wax

  • Some of you seem uncomfortable with the lryical content, and the sarcastic way it's delivered. I prefer my limitless music with wit and irony, turning over all the rocks of human shortcomings, so we can all see ourselves better.......thats why Tull & Zappa et al, works for me!

  • @willicat441 So do I. The lyrical content of "Montana" is a rather slyly executed spoof on the American Dream in the open frontier. This song's got strong literary value along with the amazing musical composition and performance. It is one of Zappa's finest!

  • BOOGIE !

  • I'm calling sheffield cutlery and implements to order me a pair of Heavy Duty Zircon Encrusted Twezzers.......

  • I've got Zappa's greatest hits album. Cannot believe that Montana doesn't have the guitar solo played here.

  • 5 people just don't know what the fuck they're talking about

  • I absolutely love this song, wish his music would be played on the AM/FM stations, also what does "Yippie-Ty-O-Ty-Ay" mean?

  • @Doobie1975

it's just a thing. doesn't really mean anything.

    most likely, that is.

  • Would love to hear Morgan Freeman do this!

  • It's so cool...so cool...then he opens his mouth and starts talking....sorry....been trying to like this stuff for 20 years and just can't get past the vocals. My failing....

  • @apemanstreetwalker He does have instrumental albums, y'know.

  • The guitar solo is just other wordly and far better than anything every played by the guys who always get voted "Best Guitar Playa Evah!!"

  • @FrankZappy Ever see the Steve Vai interview, where he said that he almost didn't get the gig with Zappa because he couldn't play some stuff Zappa showed him? Where Vai whined, "I can't play THAT! NO ONE can play that!" To which FZ replied, "I think Linda Rondstat's looking for a guitarist," and walked away? LOL Apparently, Zappa's standards for those in his band were as high as his standards for himself. Imagine having a band that Steve Vai isn't good enough to be in? LOL

  • @ProgBassistPhx That was probably just FZ's snide humour in play. Classic line though! Napoleon's story of getting into the band is great too. Zappa just walked up to him after watching him sing in a Hawaiian nightclub and said "Hello, my name is Frank Zappa, and you are my new Lead Vocalist." FZ asked him to drop in for an audition whenever he could. Napoleon went along just to meet George Duke. His 'audition' was to sit and listen. If he liked the music, he had the job. What a way to get in!

  • @FrankZappy ahhahahahaha i have always thought that too!!! He was a Cosmic guitar player !!!

  • Thumbs up if your 13 years old and you like this song.

  • I consider myself exposed to many different genres of music & artists. I don't know how I made it thus far in life without hearing a Zappa song until I started listening to satellite radio. This was the first Zappa tune I heard. I love his art-He is way before his time-He was doing shit then that was probably so much harder than doing it these days with the help of computers. He is a genius.

  • @princesspinkfloyd Let me guess- Classic Vinyl? Thats where I heard this for the first time.

  • @Koolkitties Actually I think it was "Deep Tracks"... but I could be mistaken.. lol

  • @princesspinkfloyd I need to check that one out i guess.

  • @princesspinkfloyd There's a frequently used phrase that affirms what you're saying; "ZAPPA IS THE BEST!"

Not only that Zappa is good, FZ literally is the best rock music ever created.

  • Theres 5 I see that doesn't know how to grow a crop....lol

  • Just LISTEN to the stuff goin' on in this tune!!! Then listen to the lyrics. Then listen to the whole thing, lean back and appreciate Zappa's talent....

    =]

  • Had the privelege and pleasure of seeing Frank and the Mothers live in Dallas in the 70s. Cheerleaders with flaming batons, strobes and all. Yippie I Oh Ky Yay. Left that show with a then new found respect for Frank as a guitar player. Of course, many of his recordings have dozens of overdubs which can't be reproduced live.

  • The guitar solo on this track is a killer,it does it for me every time. Way to go Frank.

  • @parrytonneath Yup. It's my fave guitar solo, over many years... um... Jesus am I really 51 years old? LOL...

  • ride him

    ride that pony frank

  • I bought this "8-track" when I was 17. My mom thought I was on serious drugs listening to this on a crappy stereo system ( I bought at K-mart). I'm 53 now (with grand-kids) and the music and talent is more great to me now as then.

  • son 5 desdentados que nunca han conocido la seda dental y que no han visitado Montana aunque estàn a tiempo para ello.

  • This is very old- but good.

  • Frank was a genius! Thanks so much for posting these great songs! He was so way before his time!! ******

  • I love these recordings. I love equally, my vivid and detailed memories of seeing Frank play live, starting in about 1967... watching the different incarnations of the Mothers of Invention develop, then under the name of just Frank Zappa. I saw probably 10-15 different shows over the years, all great. With the possible exception of Duke Ellington, Frank was probably the greatest American bandleader ever, in terms of bringing out the best in the brilliant players that passed through his bands.

  • Another Rock Genius ahead of his time...lost too soon. What an influence in music! Thanks for your great contributions Frank...

  • Speaking of... does anyone know where I can Keyboard chords, I get to learn this too, YIPPIIOTAIEAY!!! XD

  • I really like the guitar solo. Finally getting Zappa..

  • yippiiotaieay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good weed smoking music.

  • lol tina turner on backin vocals!

  • Who are the 5 fools that dislike this!!! Zappa rules!!

  • @MrFingers008 Were they... 'dancing fools'

    sorry

  • this guy is a fucking genius.....

  • Zappa = genius

  • Do people truly realize how complex these compositions are???

  • @CUBALAW

    No. Only you get it.

  • @CUBALAW i have to learn this song to get in advanced band for where i learn music, shits tough, and i cant find this song on itunes :(

  • @CUBALAW

Every person who loves Frank Zappa's songs knows that these compositions are complex. If you can't understand this complex composition you don't love it.

  • @CUBALAW I do. I am a musician.

  • @CUBALAW Yes :) me and you

  • @CUBALAW Sometimes its hard to hear through the sophomoric lyrics; I'm afraid, along with Zappa's own ability to still have pop sensibilities even when hes breaking down its barriers.

  • @CUBALAW the time changes and key changes are nuts and live he played this soooo tight ide loooove to see someone do this just like him as ive never gotten to see zappa...but how i can only imagine god this stuff is so intricate!

  • @CUBALAW

    No, no they do not.

  • @CUBALAW Only when you try to arrange them for your jazz ensemble. And yes... it sucks.

  • @CUBALAW probably more complex than their cranial make-up.

  • Just me and the pigmy pony, over by the dental floss bush! skippy-i-o-ty-ay!

  • best voice ever.

  • my freind actually moved to momtana !!!!!!!!!!

  • YIPPIE YI YO TI YAY

  • @Hero1957 Movin' to Montana soon...

  • what would zappa do?

  • RIP Frank!! You were one of the best ever!!!!

  • that ending....the beauty

  • does humor belong to music?

  • @grumpyfrog my balls belong on a girls face

  • I live in Montana, I should grow me a crop.

  • @samwiseshatbatch :) This song makes me want to move to Montana and raise a crop of dental floss...

  • This is the first time I have heard the LP version and.....MY GOSH - Zappa's guitar solo is out of this world!

Yippee Yi Yo Ti Yaaaaa !!

  • The guitar solo almost gives me an orgasm

  • Can't decide what I love more: the guitar solo or the Ikettes spotlight that follow it up

  • 4 people have bad hygiene

  • zircon encrusted tweezers

  • Frank zappa you rock. The guitar solo in this song is amazing.

  • Rippin fuckin guitar solos.... frank zappa was a musical genius.... this song, i am the slime and dynamoh hum.... overnite sensation is a classic fucking album....

  • GREAT SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love the solo

  • gotta go to montana soon...lol

  • Not many people know this but the zap was a genius composer and wrote symphonies for his real living. This was his fun stuff. Try to copy it. Montana is an uncopied studio origional that blows female vocals to dust in origionality and difficulty let alone his lead on the SG. He must have been on alot of coffee those days he took the origional takes. His female (fabulous) singers on that album never worked with him again. Actually he was a real dick personally. Cool tune, farrrrt.

  • @zippysbabyjackboy1 Have another bong hit, Zippy. You don't have the faintest idea of what you are talking about.

  • I'll continue to avoid Montana, as Frank advises here.

  • i actually have this album and it is awesome

  • I'm going to Montana soon for real! this Summer!

  • im riding a small tiny horse. his name is mighty little, hes a good horse, even if he's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or blanket on anyway..

  • I gave up smoking pot around 4 years ago. I started listening to Zappa about a year ago. Talk about bad timing!

  • @BigDogsDangler thats hilarious

  • I'm going to visit Montana just because of this song.

  • @Tigrissum

please tell me how it was

  • yipeeio kayai!!!

  • Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay

  • Takes me back. Best guitar solo I can remember, to date.

  • @kybo61 AND it's hard to play, should you wanna copy it....

  • Frank really rips it up on this one.

  • at least 4 ppl have a phobia about tweezers....ahh yes those infamous tweezers=)

  • Best song ever about starting your own business. Love the "Lucky Luke" style at the end when he rides his pygmee pony into the dawn. Jippy ajoo!

  • Kids don't do drugs! But listen to Frank Zappa's music... Thats the same shit...

  • @kevenharbour yes i wonder, was Frank into drugs, or was he just good at bringing out his talent without the use of drugs?

  • @TMundo Zappa HATED drugs..he would even fire the members of his band when he suspected they were taking drugs..Zappa believed in a musical utopia where people didn't need drugs to express their creativity, he thought drugs actually prevented people from being talented..lol I'm taking a fine arts class on Zappa in Uni.

  • I never took drugs but I've listen to Frank Zappa...

  • @kevenharbour I'm sorry, we can't give you the job...

  • and ride, like a cowboy, into the dawn a' montana...

  • I wanna go to Montana now.

  • Acid days, big time, in Salt Lake City. They played the Salt Palace?1969

  • yippe yi tie ehhhhh!!!!!!!

  • Backing vocals by Tina Turner and the Ikettes, no less.

  • Backing vocals by Tina Turner and the Ikettes, no less.

  • @justlettersandnumber True, Apparently they did this in a break from recording with Ike, when he came in and heard this he flipped.

  • I swear this should be Ted Turner's Montana Project theme song........

  • Just a silly Zappa song that doesn't make any damn sense, when, out of nowhere, comes the best guitar solo ever played. Feels good to get surprised.

  • drugs.

  • @Cheskoslavia if I were you I wouldnt dare while listenin this music....

  • @Cheskoslavia No way Frank was anti-drugs.

  • Zappa forever!!!!!
