I remember likin this before I could relate to complete sentences and song lyrics, and would make up words to fit the rhythm to still get the buzz from it!
@jeffjslater .HI,Jeff.I always thought this track was recorded by Sue and Sunny. Was it Sue Schiffrin, who is now married to David Cassidy?Did she also record a version of 25 Miles, the Edwin Starr hit?Or am I completely on the wrong track?FB me,if you would, please
BOY I SURE WISH THAT SOMEONE WOULD UPLOAD THE VIDEO OF HER SINGING THIS ON TOP OF THE POPS, LOVE TO SEE THAT AGAIN. SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND HAS A STUNNING VOICE, WHAT A WASTE TO BE JUST A SESSION SINGER. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN HUGE. XX
I Like this but the Carol Douglas version had a better more rich and lush production, the music on this one sounds a bit "tinny" for a Disco song.
Besides I think comparisons are stupid, just enjoy them both or don't put down one to defend the other. Each singer brings something unique to their version.
Johnnie Walker played this again yesterday on his "Sounds of the 70's" show...that's twice in 4 months...recognition perhaps of what a great, great song & version this is.
Sent this in to Johnnie Walker as a suggestion for his playlist on "Sounds of the 70's". Well today he played it on national radio. I hope the listening millions were awakened to what a GREAT song this is & what an awesome singer Sunny is. Travesty that neither she nor the song received the acclaim they deserved.
I always laughed at the telephone intro "Hi honey, I went to the doctors today". I would've put the phone down at that point!!!!!!! Good song though. She also sang the lead female vocal on the Brotherhood of Man's "United We Stand".
The "dogs"... Apart from a sublime voice. I think she was a cracking looking woman....P.S....Check out , Brotherhood of man..."United we stand". She,s part lead vocalist. And a beautiful song...
Sunny gets my vote, it's not often the original version is not the best! I bought this when a hormonal young man and wanted to play doctors and nurses with her.
I do as well because Carol is far more groovy in a soul-funky style. Sunny is too pop, and I don't like her version. But TheRoloCasanova seems to be right because Sunny charted entered the UK charts in March 1974 while Carol only entered the US ones only in December of that year...
This is the original and the best version of a great song (though Carol Douglas did a good attempt too - and the B side of that one was a cracker Baby Don't Let This Good Love Die). As folks have mentioned Sunny (the sexy Sunny) had a number of releases including a solo album featuring this song which I still have, and albums with her sister Sue (Sue and Sonny) and, of course, Brotherhood of Man (the original group). Doesn't get much better than this.
@TheRunner75 He's referring to the ORIGINAL group of Brotherhood of man... from 1970-73, the later version of the group (with all new members) WAS crap, I agree. But you should hear the recordings of the original group (Of which Sunny was a member) like "United We Stand", "Say A Prayer", and "Reach Out Your Hand", good stuff.
Only 4990 views...1000's missing out on one of the GREATEST pop songs ever. Sublime from start to finish. SO many memories...Girls Aloud/Sugababes ideal for a cover version? Never beat this though and I'm a Weller nut!!!
But unfortenately it was only a spool insert tape from 18th April 1974 which had Mott the Hoople and Limmie and The Family Cookin' and i wish the BBC would have kept the recording with Greg Edwards being in the frame. as of 2009, there are no Sunny TOTP performances at all.
@Bessie1906 sorry but I must disagree with you. Being a person who grew up during the USA disco era I prefer the disco version song by carol Douglas . Either way both Sonny's and Carol's version put Jane MC Donald's . version to shame
That's about Sheila's one (sorry one message slippped away), to be found for instance on my 'Favorites' page here, under the name "Sheila" (a mistake fom the gut who posted it), lasting 2:26.
It is a good quality capture of a Tv lip-sing that really does her justice....
Yes, but it wasn't her only UK release. "She did some backing vocals" is an understatement. She featured on dozens of the big hits of the 70s so that her voice became almost as familar as those of the lead artists.
Yet another Greenaway-Cook classic beautifully performed by one of the great voices of the 60s-70s. Just a pity that so few of Sunny's successes were as a solo artist. She was so much more than a backing singer.
Ditto...thanks for posting. Always a great favourite, invokes many happy memories & is one helluva a good Pop Song. This version is by far the best, timeless & yes it COULD be nicked by today's big hitters (bar Lily Allen!)_

Interpretation is AAAA from an accomplished artist.
