@SexyDipChick Hi, This is the difference between an invisible zip and a conventional zip. The invisible zip is much easier and much better for nearly every kind of garment except a fly on trousers or if you want to feature the zip. You always stitch the seam afterwards with the invisible zip. Give it a try, it really is invisible. Some sewers, and sewing classes don't seem to be aware of them.
Please visit my channel and website and follow me.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I learned to sew in my home economics class but completely forgot how to use patterns. You explain everything so clear. Great job!
@gowmukhi I'd say it is a job lot of faulty zips. You could try sewing them on ignoring the fact that the teeth are rolling the wrong way - don't stitch right up to the teeth - It's a bit hard to imagine. I would just get a new zip rather than ruin a garment. Often the cheap option costs you more in the end.
@angelakanetv Atlast, I could get the zip as you mention in this video. At 7:22 you mention that its called invisible / concealed zip. The zips I had were for wallets and purses, not for clothes. I have sewn the invisible zip now. Its my first time sewing ever, so thanks a lot for your help.
Hello Angela, I have a question again!. The zip I have, has the teeth rolled towards the right size of the zip, not towards the wrong side of the zip as your zip in this video. So if I follow your video as is, will I still have an invisible zip?. But its going to be very difficult to sew my zip because it will be hard for me to keep the rolling teeth away from the needle, as they will not be facing me instead they face the cloth. Can you please suggest the right way?
@gowmukhi Are you sure the teeth are rolling to the right side? I haven't heard of that sort of zip. Perhaps the 'pull' has slipped to the wrong side which will make the wrong side look like the right side.
Eureka! A clear instruction video with no annoying graphics/music/egos! Well planned and presented by an erudite and articulate woman. An absolute joy! Many thanks for restoring my faith in the internet and saving me from the "have a nice day" brigade. Please carry on doing what you're doing because you're the best!
Thank you all for the great comments on this, my first, series of videos. It makes the hard work worthwhile.
My videos are improving I think. I am currently working on making up my classic shirt pattern which contains some really useful techniques and what a versatile garment a shirt is - you can't have too many. Make it long and you have a shirt dress or shorten it and you have a simple loose style jacket.
This has been the most comprehensive guide to sewing a zip. One of the best I've seen in ages. I've been following your videos and I say that it has given me absolute confidence to attempt a sewing project. The last time I did that was in 1984 when I was a teenager!! Many thanks!!!
Thank you so much. My aim is to produce really good videos showing techniques in the context of making a whole garment. After all, the purpose is to produce lovely clothes to wear.
I hope to be putting videos out much more regularly from now on but they do take time and planning. I have been busy improving patterns.
Please continue to follow. There is so much pleasure to be had from making great clothes to wear and I am thrilled to think that my efforts have encouraged you.
@angelakanetv I'm more than happy to congratulate you on your excellent style of videos. Perhaps in the future, you might even consider adding to your video collection doing short videos on pattern alteration, regarding the lengthening/shortening and the bust region?
Thank you firstmate 1956 and levone5121 for your encouraging comments. I am determined to illustrate that making clothes is not so difficult. It couldn't be a better time. I predict a return to more classic dressing - less structure with more style. I am currently working on an easy shirt pattern, teamed with classic straight legged slacks and a simple boxy jacket - a great complete outfit.
Videos and patterns in all sizes take time to produce so please continue to follow and send feedback.
Really clear, well-made videos - thank you! Am just returning to making my own clothes after making numerous things on an old treadle machine with varying degrees of success many years ago. Your videos have given me the confidence to try again.
Thank you for your comments. Yes, I'll be doing a video on linings very soon. Linings are a great way to deal with finishing edges on all sorts of garments. Firstly I am about to put out a series, making a dress from start to finish. I am working on increasing the size range for the patterns and then I'll turn my attention to useful techniques such as linings.
In my garment construction class we learned to sew the seam first and then the zipper. Is it easier to do the zipper first or the seam?

There is no make on them. I stay in Greece and bought few zips from a store.
If the teeth of your zip are rolled towards the wrong side , does it mean that the teeth touch the body? Will it not be uncomfortable?
And is there anyway to sew invisible zip with my kind of zip, as I mentioned before?
Thank you very much Angela for responding so quick.
