  • Los Van Van is an amazing Cuban Band...

  • 11:13 Cat really like paper because it is warm.

  • You have a real Italian coffee maker. My cousins in Italy use that too!!!

  • hi kaz first time i hear of you or watch your videos. i love your cat, what kind is it ?

  • like many things in england convenience is favored over flavour or nutrition. people dont realise the pleasure you can get from the process of preparing quality coffee or tea.

  • that is way too much effort for a cup of coffee.

    but looks yummy.

  • so you spent all this time making coffee in the morning? jesus !

  • Bialetti, a priceless Bialetti :D

  • I KNEW IT, i knew coffee wasnt meant to taste so bitter, everywhere i dink it it SUCKS... mind you i aint a mug for a bit of scrap metal that costs £20.... just wont bring the kettle to boil, or i will let it cool.

  • Actually strictly speaking, this is not a percolator, though the pot does employ some use of the "percolation" method. This is a "moka pot" (english) or "caffettiera" (Italian). If you look on wikipedia you'll see this.

  • hey kazzart, i have a question about your video. how did you make a video that long? by the way, excellent video

  • Long - as in the time length of this video? I joined 3 years ago.. and I have a director account from way back when director accounts were given unlimited time limits. Benefits of being an early contributor. :)

  • I've seen Italians make coffee that way many times. But I've never seen them mix it with an equal amount of milk. In fact, they don't take milk at all. Go without the milk, and make the coffee super-concentrated in a cup the size of a thimble, and you'll be half way towards being Italian!

  • So I suppose then that a cappuccino or caffe latte is not an italian way to consume coffee also? I've been to Italy many times and seen that whilst many italians (including my italian bf, his father and family) tend to drink espresso's throughout the day, the most common drink for breakfast in Italy is the cappuccino. Made with milk.

As for making it stronger - this is a moka pot, not an espresso machine.

  • Well there you have it! Can't argue with 70 years first hand experience! :)

  • Hehe yes I know u were replying to jrawle. I was agreeing with you also in response towards him. :)

  • Obviously my experience is of Italians at lunch time, not breakfast, so my slightly tongue-in-cheek remark was a reference to that.

Surely cappuccino is an American invention anyway? ;)

  • Comment removed

  • LOL. Are you american, because seriously, only an american would think an iconic Italian drink was created by the US. The cappuccino is of course Italian, through and through.. originating from as far back as the early 1900's. I believe the "americano" or "long black" however, is a non-italian invention..

So I take it you've never been to Italy then?

  • It must be because I associate fancy types of coffee with Starbucks... unless you're going to tell me that's Italian too?

I've been to Italy, for a grand total of one day, as a day trip when I was working in Switzerland.

  • Oh my... don't even get my started on that evil chain. They're only good for their fraps. Everything else is complete sh*te.

Do yourself a favor and try a coffee in Italy one day. Any small bar/tabacchi will serve cheap & decent (like 100 times better than starbucks at a fraction of the price) coffee - doesn't need to be at a fancy expensive cafe. I also personally have a bit of a penchant for Autogrill coffees - but you can only get them driving on the autostrada. Mmmmm....

  • Also no $tarbucks is most definitely NOT italian. And you won't find it anywhere in Italy either... thank GOD!

  • Brits may struggle with coffee for the same reason American's don't excel at soccer or rugby ... Americans play American Football ... Brits have Tea. I admire your meticulous pursuit of Taste with your coffee ... but I can tell your method is more work than I could muster with one bleary eye open. For me, you just can't beat a coffee machine with a timer that brews your cauldron of coffee just before you wake in the morning. As always ... you are delightful and amazing.

  • My method is a traditional one passed many generations by many people - italian, spanish, french & even some westerners. It is hardly any effort at all - about as much effort as making toast!

These days we rely too much on "instant" machines to do all the work. I can't stand these machines as the result is always of inferior quality.

To be honest, brit's don't really excel at tea either. They drink alot of it to be sure (as they also do coffee) but most aren't really fussed about the quality.

  • Wow. Thank you for your comment. I'm sure my bf will be pleased. :)

  • Oh man... that's the same coffee maker I have!

  • that cat got so big!!

  • hehehe, Im waiting for part 2, I hope this will have the big "S-word" in it... and btw, 11 min for making a coffee, wtf ?!?! and this was fast forward!! heheeh, nice!!peace out

  • Lol. S-word?? And well.. it doesn't normally take me so long to make a coffee, but u have to factor in the whole tutorial and guidance thing I was doing.. :P

  • yeah!!! what would a good sunday be without "stickam" !!!! ;-ppp

  • Haha... unfortunately no my sunday didn't involve stickam. It did involve a different s-word though! Salsa! :)

  • Way to down that coffee. mmmm Good. Do you ever microwave your left over coffee?

    Luc

  • Hm.. i've microwaved coffee gone a bit cold. Prefer not to though.. it just doesnt taste as good!

  • Thank you for the Bialetti lesson.. I had NO idea how they were used prior to this video! It sounds like we have similar coffee tastes..but I add sugar.

I think your basil plant is amazing, so "hats off" to you for having one that looks so good! (You didn't buy it like that did you)?

Ella is VERY cute indeed. Our cat Phoebe loves to sit on bags too. It's as if she claims them as her "personal mat". Half boxes are even better!

Glad you're enjoying the weather too :)

  • Hey!! My pleasure. :) I had no idea either until my bf's father showed me when i was over there during xmas/ny. You should def try it - it makes a fantastic coffee.. the traditional italian way. :)

Haha err i did buy it like that actually. Thats how they sell it over here in the supermarkets. Its just up to us to maintain it. :)

Aww... cats are awesome arent they! :3

Anyway, thanks for commenting - nice to hear from ya. Hope things are well over ur side of the world!

  • All right... I'll be the one to ask...

If you drink 2 cups, but they're only half full, why not make a full cup and save some time.

I'm sure you have a perfectly reasonable explanation... :-P

  • if I may... the answer is: her cup is at least 50% full of milk, which makes it a milk-mix-drink, rather than a coffee... lmao. Italians would kill u for that, kazz, LOL, greetzli

  • Actually what I drink would be classified as a caffe latte - which is perfectly acceptable in Italy. As is a latte macchiato, which has even less coffee in it!

  • hmm, I wouldnt sign that, sista... cause... from my experience a caffe latte contains way less than 50% of milk and most of the time more milk foam than milk itself, so it is rather strong in taste and not really milky and mild... A latte macchiato on the other hand has more milk in it, true, but it is not made with coffee, because it is finished with an espresso on the top of it to create the flavor. ;-)

  • to finish all that jazz, we have to discuss the cappuccino, which has slightly less milk in it than a caffe latte and a real "cappu" is made with a 50-50-mixture of coffee and espresso beans to make it stronger than a caffe latte. ;-)), over n out

  • Wikipedia says it all - en[dot]wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Latte

In Italy, caffe latte is almost always prepared at home, for breakfast only. The coffee is brewed with a stovetop Moka and poured into a cup containing heated milk. (The Moka does not produce true espresso, but rather a double-strength coffee. Also, unlike the international latte drink, the milk in the Italian original is not foamed.)

  • lol, did u post that on wiki ?? hihihi... great, have u ever tried a turkish mokka?? also nice and interesting!!

  • Hahaha... What she didn't show us was that, just off camera, she was actually using a laptop to follow the directions from wikipedia to make the coffee... lol.

Actually this vid was a great idea. I've wanted to film a cafe press tutorial for a long time.

And my secret method for ultimate white tea...

You should throw some affiliate links into the side panel and make some cash selling the coffee and the bialetti.

    Nicely done!

  • Haha.. cmon I'm not that much of a sell out. (Unlike certain someone's I used to know.)

But yeh don't think anyone will find it if they search for bialetti. Perhaps I should rename the video title as "You Can Make A Stovetop Coffee Too" ;)

  • LOL. No.. a quick google search resulted in this wikipedia page which nicely supported my argument. :)

  • Hehe well if you think about what Marty said and do the math - 50% milk PLUS coffee.. times 2... makes more than 100% which means it wont actually fit in 1 cup. :P

  • Such a lucky coffee cup. How I would love to have your lips wrapped around me too. LOL

  • Thanks. I didn't have any authentic Italian guidance so now I find out I've had the heat turned up too much and I've been washing everything in detergent. I'm inspired to make some noon coffee. It's not as good but when you're in a hurry a French press makes a quick decent cup of coffee. aloha from Hawaii :) :)

  • ZOMG your cat has gotten hella big. Seemes like it was just a little kitten the last time I saw it in one of your videos.

  • LOL she is a big kitty isn't she. I saw her in one of my previous videos too as a little kitten.. its amazing how tiny she was back then! So cute!!!

  • Glad your back again. Missed you......Randy

  • Thanks. I'm still around.. never went away. :)

  • U R REALLY CUTE

  • YAY!!

I love how you've got this whole ritual on how to make the coffee, but then you put it in a regular kitty coffee mug. I don't know why, but after that ritual I guess I kinda expected something...different. :-p

Butter on English muffins is a very good breakfast, excellent choice!

    OMG, was that TWITTER?! :-D

  • Hahah well.. I've made that kitty mug my video thumbnail now.. when the thumbnail change bothers to show up that is... :/

LOL yes it was twitter ;)

  • I HAVE A CRUSH ON U

  • that coffee maker was cool :)

  • Hehe it is isn't it. Its the traditional italian way of making coffee. And produces some very delicious coffee indeed.
