Funny thing about karate, kung-fu, and almost all styles... the all tend to get into a boxing stance. They do this because a boxing stance is a more natural posture than getting into a deep stance or some funky pose as a way for readiness in a fight. Never fails...
Boxing stances are nothing more than just a Ready stance for fights. Deep/Funky Stances from traditional styles are nothing more than Training Postures and Positions. Traditional Boxing stances also look different than Modern Boxing stances. But once again, these stances are meant to train the body and to help the practitioner learn body mechanics. Even JKD, has a particular stance or pose, but in practice, it is more fluid and not so easily noticeable. The same goes for all styles. =)
Well, perhaps it may differ from discipline to discipline then. In the discipline I practice, we sit in a horse stance for roughly 3-5 minutes while we practice blocking and punching drills. While we would never do these blocks and punches in a horse stance in real scenarios, they are "drilled" while in a horse stance (why? to condition our legs while we work on hand coordination). In my opinion, the forms/katas one practices are what help one to keep the best position for offense and defense.
How many karate stylist looked like karate stylist in the UFC? When these fighters were allowed to "go all out" without the refs breaking up the clinch to maintain space their styles took on a different look.
Look up the Emin Boztepe,William Cheung Fight. Two Wing Chung stylist all on the ground basiclly.
some aspects may change but the fact they hit the ground does not mean their styles change they apply something different on the floor .. lyoto machida is a karate stylist and ppl say he fight awkward for using basically something traditional.. and if this is true whats the point of training the technique if its never going to be used like its supposed to?? feel me ?
But non of those fighters are pure karate fighters. Machida has a black belt in BJJ,Lidel has a strong wrestling background which helps with his takedown defense. They are all hybrid fighters basically. A pure karate or kung fu stylist wouldn't last in today's mma.
That wasn't the point. Lite does a mixture of styles too. The point is they all use a karate stance, karate strikes and karate principles . If you are good enough to teach a style you should be good enough to use it.
When I watch MMA I can usually tell what style a guy is comfortable with in his excision
All of those fighters that you mentioned have studied boxing, muy thai, wrestling, and brazilian jujutsu. There are no pure karate fighters in the UFC. They take aspects of karate and use it in their fighting style.

I totally agree with your point as far as leaving before the round was over. If you listen you may hear me ask Lyte whatr happened and state that the round wasnt over. So technically it would have been a dq in the ring. However they fought in the street and the whole rounds,styles and other formalities had no place there in retrospect. dope vid as usual, it's been a while. Lyte, u should work on a dvd that specifically concentrates on the history/origins/evolution of 52. it would take a lot of research and time but i'm sure it will be well worth it.

@blacktaoist The bottom line soon the fight begins Maoshan should have pierces, bridge, and finish you. Its a real basic principle of Bagua that Maohan should had easy execute being how you was moving around and how you was holding your fighting posture doing the fight.
If you get some time in Oregon you should hit the CoreStar cultural center for living arts. The Benevolent Fist Mantis boys have been rocking in the mma scene here, seriously reppin' mantis fist and they are cool folks. Funny thing about karate, kung-fu, and almost all styles... the all tend to get into a boxing stance. They do this because a boxing stance is a more natural posture than getting into a deep stance or some funky pose as a way for readiness in a fight. Never fails...

Boxing stances are nothing more than just a Ready stance for fights. Deep/Funky Stances from traditional styles are nothing more than Training Postures and Positions. Traditional Boxing stances also look different than Modern Boxing stances. But once again, these stances are meant to train the body and to help the practitioner learn body mechanics. Even JKD, has a particular stance or pose, but in practice, it is more fluid and not so easily noticeable. The same goes for all styles. =)

Well, perhaps it may differ from discipline to discipline then. In the discipline I practice, we sit in a horse stance for roughly 3-5 minutes while we practice blocking and punching drills. While we would never do these blocks and punches in a horse stance in real scenarios, they are "drilled" while in a horse stance (why? to condition our legs while we work on hand coordination). In my opinion, the forms/katas one practices are what help one to keep the best position for offense and defense.

But non of those fighters are pure karate fighters. Machida has a black belt in BJJ,Lidel has a strong wrestling background which helps with his takedown defense. They are all hybrid fighters basically. A pure karate or kung fu stylist wouldn't last in today's mma.

All of those fighters that you mentioned have studied boxing, muy thai, wrestling, and brazilian jujutsu. There are no pure karate fighters in the UFC. They take aspects of karate and use it in their fighting style.

Everybody seems to want a piece of the pie what's up with people challenging 40 year olds to fight that's like challenging fighters retired trainers to fight in the cage etc. the people that train the new generation did there competitive fighting it's time to pass the torch.If it's a fight to protect self then you fight but acting out with internet broke warriors is a waste of time be professional.

much respect to lyte and maoshan for showing up fpr the previous fight. but reall talk, how is anybody gonna talk about winning or loosing a fight when the round was nt even over yet, the first fight hasnt even been finished yet. whats the point of having someone keep time, if you you dont keep to t he time. i'm pretty sure if you leave the ring before the bell rings or the ref raises a hand its a DQ. Real talk you both need the rematch for redemtion.

I agree its not a prison thing and not a 5 percenter thing. And i'll go so far as to say its not a black thing, its a "boxing thing." Yes, I agree Jack Johnson was a tremendous fighter but remember he was trained by a white guy "Choyinski" And im not saying white people made 52 so please relax. Isnt it more realistic to think these "ways" of fighting came out of boxing than from any one race. Many races donated to boxing and also to what came to be known as 52.

There was this guy i knew along time ago from east ny who knew 52. What made his style so dope is that he also learned many other martial art styles. Which he combined with 52. Such as wing chun for trapping and muay thai for the knees & elbows. He took 52 too the next level, where he evolved as a fighter

Good to see you back on the tube Lyte. As far as the rematch goes, there really is no need for one. Two black men handled their differences as men. And the end result was that nobody was beat so bad that they can't fight another day. Both men get the same respect for fighting. Instead of fighting each other lets do like the asians and everybody else teaching the arts do when they get here off the boats and planes. Work together and accomplish something. We need more brotherhood and unity. All of the street martial artist need to unit and not fight one another. nak, i respect the fact that you are willing to show and prove, but you know damn well that fight wasnt fair and square. i agree lyte showed more skill in that fight, but i aint never seen a fighter leave the ring before the bell rings or gettin his hand raised and being able to call that anything but a DQ. I totally agree with your point as far as leaving before the round was over. If you listen you may hear me ask Lyte whatr happened and state that the round wasnt over. So technically it would have been a dq in the ring. However they fought in the street and the whole rounds,styles and other formalities had no place there in retrospect. From little they did fight Lyte got the better of the exchanges. Agreed?

dope vid as usual, it's been a while. Lyte, u should work on a dvd that specifically concentrates on the history/origins/evolution of 52. it would take a lot of research and time but i'm sure it will be well worth it.

If you get some time in Oregon you should hit the CoreStar cultural center for living arts. The Benevolent Fist Mantis boys have been rocking in the mma scene here, seriously reppin' mantis fist and they are cool folks. If you are in town, there isn't much out here and hit Oregon in the Summer, otherwise it's all piss and mud. I like how you do it the old fashioned way, in the park, in the house, whatever. Right On!
