Great stuff Morph. I'm a beliver in the surfcoasters and any surftunes that float my way, have you made an attempt to master "Bumble Bee"??(Surfcoasters version of course). I think you'll be able to nail that one coz you,ve definatly have a great coasters vibe happenning.Anyway thanx the time and effort put in to post this .. Cheers.
very! nice version, Michael. sounds great, you make it look easy , which it aint'. and your video and editing is spot on. a great antidote to those thousands of hours of guitar videos in which the director thought focusing on the neck was just too boring. thanks for posting. Ron
Very nice job and very cool guitar. I've been looking for one of those for some time now - if you know of one for sale give me a shout please, thanks.
@morphballio then, you have really bad taste in mixing music... hava nagila??? out of all the beautiful guitar music in the world you pick that shitty tune??.. lol... and you call me the idiot?... don't thank me for listening buddy, it was definitely by accident... thank the rest of the untalented lemmings that pathetically look up to your mediocre talent and make you feel better about yourself.. take care now.
@mamakunem I don't expect you to actually know anything about music based on that statement, but the commonalities between Misirlou and Hava Nagila happen to be the heavy use of Phrygian scales, which is common in not only Jewish music, but Arabic, Spanish, Mediterranean, and more. The other commonalty is that Dick Dale recorded both of these classics and was not Jewish either (half-Lebanese actually). Now kindly go fuck yourself before I alert Youtube to the racist vitriol you are spreading.
@morphballio I know all that info, and I never said the miserlou was jewish, motherfucker, I was only talking about the hava nagila pay attention next time, moron. awwww, you gonna tell on me? ;( lol. thanks for the threat, little bitch... I guess you didn't like my outcast opinions, ill leave you and your huge ego be.. bye bye.
@mamakunem Wow, your semi-literate trolling attempts are getting dumber, yet more humorous each time. What exactly is an "outcast opinion"? Is it thinking there are no repercussions for acting like a prick online from the safety of your mother's basement? I'm going to assume you are a bored child or young teen, or possibly even a mildly-retarded adult, and won't attempt to explain anything else. Is this really what you do Friday nights? Isn't there a jar of Vaseline with your name on it?
@mamakunem Are you going to post a video of your guitar playing? Or picking your nose or scratching your ass? Go fuck yourself dude. If you can get it up.
@FormosaSurf The settings for the Sonido were approximately Treble: 7, Bass: 8, Stoke/Presence: 9; the tank I generally just keep on 6-6-6 all the time. I guess the other factor would have been the SGV800's bridge pickup raised very close to the strings (I stuck foam in the cavity to keep it high). Hope that helps!
Amazing sound man, I'm a bass player personally but both of these tunes are equally badass on guitar. You could be the next Liveson if you play your cards right >.<
Wow man, u really did the damn thing!!!! This is god like... (Forgive me God)... I have a request m' friend... can u make a video, step by step teaching how to play this? Even if u can't i still respect the skills!!!
@ALFJONES87 Thanks for the really kind comments! I don't have any immediate plans to do any tutorials, but I'll definitely cover Misirlou if it ever happens. Thanks for watching!
Fender amps and guitars are the kings of Surf; traditional choices are the Stratocaster, Jazzmaster & Jaguar, but Mosrites and Yamaha's are also very popular (these are my favorites). For amps, the Fender Showman, Bassman & Bandmaster are the top dogs (mine is based on a '62 Bassman), but combos like the Twin Reverb are great too. Finally a tube & spring reverb unit is a must to nail the sound.
Thanks gretscher, those are rounds, .10 DR Pure Blues. SGV's are a bit like Mosrites, in that they don't respond well to thick flats, which is actually fine with me.
morphabllio, those SGVs are hard to find now. Did Yamaha stop making them or did they just stop selling them in the US. About 1998 or so they were all over Guitar Center now they are hard to locate. I am torn between flatwounds and rounds. I really don't like my Jazzmaster with roundwounds, I think it sounds kinda lame in some ways but with flatwounds it sounds good but sometimes flats are no fun, not much for bending or zing so to speak. But on other guitars rounds are the only way to go.
Yeah, they haven't been sold in the US for years, I guess Americans just didn't get them. They are still produced in Japan, though s/h is expensive so the used market is the way to go. (They do turn up occasionally- I got mine used from an online acquaintance last year.) It's not a concrete rule, but JM's & Jags just tend to sound best with flats; it's believed by many they were even designed for them, so no surprise. You'd probably like an SGV800, Jazzmastery sound designed for rounds.
Like riding a bike, I guess... can you believe there's actually other people out there calling themselves "morphball"? I was dubbed that by the King of Miami back in '95, by cracky!
