I personally prefer Vintersorgs first albums and Otyg. His later works are interesting, but not as good as older. I only like Cosmic Genesis. It isnt so progressive as Focusing Blur for example.

I've only heard Odemarkens Son (many times, I might add), and I will likely hear the other albums later, but every time someone expresses their preference for a band's earlier work, and I go back to listen to them, I can never fully appreciate the reason why they like the older works better.

There's quite a few Viking bands now, I only got into the genre after I listened to a band called Einherjer. They're quite old and no longer going but give them a try, I think if anyone call execute it right it would be them. Blot and norwegian native art are 2 great albums.

Vintersorg has never really been viking metal tbh, they only have maybe one or two lyrics about the viking ages. If anything the time period they sing about is more 18-19th century-ish.

we americans who know good music when we hear it mostly have to travel across the pond to hear them live....alot of finnish folk metal and BM is acroos the pond, and i love the folk metal that is going on right now... the bands in america are all in a fashion show, they are also being mass produced. Bands wont make it more then a year because they all sound the same!
