Bingofioul, just look at the intakes on the front of the jet. If they're semi circular, it's an F/A 18 Hornet, if they're rectangular, then it's a Super Hornet.
@bingofioul Super Hornet is larger but probably not so noticeable unless side by side with standard 18 but also has distinctive larger sharp rectangular inlets that function better and have smaller radar profile. Excellent plane, amazing the high G manoeuvres pulled in this display without thrust vectoring - amazing!

Yes the Super Hornet is fly-by-wire. Unlike the "Legacy" Hornet FA-18A-D which has "back-up mech" to control the horizontal stabilators in the event of electrical failure, the E-G's do not.

Very impressive flying. As others have said, I haven't seen any other pilot/plane w/o thrust vectoring put on as impressive a show.
Just an FYI, for those who might not know. As impressive as thrust vectoring maneuvers are at air shows, in combat they can get you killed real fast, if you aren't careful. The plane gets non aerodynamic, loses all it's speed, and drops altitude. Real easy for a faster opponent to gain the high ground and hammer you.
I Love the Super Hornet! But I heard the power-to-weight ratio is a bit low because of its larger size and they're in the process of upgrading the engines to give it more oomph.
That is not true esp550...due to the increased size and weight of the super hornet, the engines were also increased in power. The plane has a thrust-to-weight ratio of greater than one which means that it can actually accelerate in a vertical climb...
I just figured this out. The airplane is being flown by a boeing test pilot(Ricardo Traven). Those are Boeing tech reps- hence no headgear regulations I guess.
One of the main reason this Aircraft is does so well in combat is because it can easily switch from Fighter (F in the name) to light bomber or Attack (A) with the flip of a switch from your JDAM's to your Sparrows.

The problem with this baby, as with all aircrafts is: they need extreme amounts of space to operate in combat, whereas an AH-64 does only need 1/1000 of the space to be a deadly weapon.
the only problem with the AH-64 is exectly that its an AH-64 (a Helo) and can be so easily shot down by any modern combat aircraft so its not allways the best choice depending on what your up against

If I recall, the americans were in korea since the start of the conflict and the main motivation for your involvement in ww2 was due to your direct affiliation to Britain, hell canada didnt sever their politcal ties to Britain until 1989 but I digress. The Canadian military has fought just as hard as we do and still do to this day. My Cousin is a colonel and served tours in afghanistan, he told me good things bout you guys so we respect canada as i hope you respect us.
Wow, those manuevers were amazing towards the middle and end, judging from the low speed and the fish tailing, I'm pretty confident that it's probably more agile than a MiG-29 or a standard Su-27 series Flanker. Those were more impressive than any non thrust vectored Russian fighter can do considering how slow the F/A-18 was going and stable it stayed. It would've pulled a Pugachev Cobra during the middle of the video had the pilot not hit the throttle.
The F-18E block 2 is a very good fighter. It's got an AESA radar, which is much more capable than previous generations of radars. It's got the MIDS datalink, new ECM, a reduced RCS - about 1/10 that of a su-35 and 1/100 that of a su-27/30-.
It's got better missiles than its competitors, the AIM-9X launched with the helmet cueing mounted system, and the AIM-120D, the new longer range version of the AMRAAM.

The RAAF runs "classic" F-18's + some "dusty" old F-111's (2 b retired - all well serviced and upgraded). Will the super hold it??
Well if there is one thing to appreciate about American fighters, is that they tend to carry alot more munitions and have much higher max take off weights=more weapons into combat. Russian MiG-29s and Flankers are bit more manueverable in many respects, but the F/A-18E/F could probably turn with a MiG-29 easily with those large as hell LERXs and larger wings compared to the old Hornet design. After watching this the F-18 could probably easily do the Pugachev Cobra, if the computer allows it.
This Ricardo pilot dude is badass. I saw a vid of his 2004 SH demo which was pretty awesome, I thought. He's clearly learned how to even fly this thing better I think since then, lol! Watch other SH flight demo's at airshows and they can't touch this flying by %50?? Anyway now Brazil and Denmark are supposedly looking at this plane. With AESA, it's avionics, self-protect and JHCMS, it's definitely a modern package.

The Super-Hornet is a very powerful aircraft. The AN/APG-79 AESA radar is fully electrically scanned and is going to give the AIM-120C and new AIM-120D all the info it need to turn the Flanker into scrap. The electronics on the Flanker are more like the ones used by the USAF back in the early 1990s.
Nope it's not. If the Flanker is well maintained with current missiles, it'll get into head on long range engagement with Hornet. Anyway, Hornet new AN/APG-79 radar is superior n it's AIM-120C5 is proven superb. But R-27ER has more range with unsure effectiveness.

Yes the Super Hornet is fly-by-wire. Unlike the "Legacy" Hornet FA-18A-D which has "back-up mech" to control the horizontal stabilators in the event of electrical failure, the E-G's do not.

sorry buddy,F15 n F18 av been upgraded wit a new radar n also to carry the new AIM-120D missle for a unmatch BVR capability,both jets also av been upgraded wit a Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) to go wit the new AIM-9X short range missile for a off-boresight capability to counter thrust vector fighters,so older version might not match new su's,but new upgrade version o F15 n 18 would easily counter su's,also F16 n F15 av never lost to a ruski fighter in air to air combat,take that eh.

Very impressive flying. As others have said, I haven't seen any other pilot/plane w/o thrust vectoring put on as impressive a show.
Just an FYI, for those who might not know. As impressive as thrust vectoring maneuvers are at air shows, in combat they can get you killed real fast, if you aren't careful. The plane gets non aerodynamic, loses all it's speed, and drops altitude. Real easy for a faster opponent to gain the high ground and hammer you.

That is not true esp550...due to the increased size and weight of the super hornet, the engines were also increased in power. The plane has a thrust-to-weight ratio of greater than one which means that it can actually accelerate in a vertical climb...

I just figured this out. The airplane is being flown by a boeing test pilot(Ricardo Traven). Those are Boeing tech reps- hence no headgear regulations I guess.

One of the main reason this Aircraft is does so well in combat is because it can easily switch from Fighter (F in the name) to light bomber or Attack (A) with the flip of a switch from your JDAM's to your Sparrows.

The problem with this baby, as with all aircrafts is: they need extreme amounts of space to operate in combat, whereas an AH-64 does only need 1/1000 of the space to be a deadly weapon.

I respect all of the US armed Forces. I just hate when people dontknow the facts. The only time we get trained by any Us military personnel is on pilot exchange programs and when we do carrier quals. Other then that there are more Canadians training pilots in Norad then some wish too admit. We also train your pilots during maple flag , its all give and take.

...and most of eastern Europe they begin testing students for aptitute in the sixth grade. Failing these exams will limit your opportunities for secondary education and will put you on the track to a 2 year collage or trade school. Our high schools take everyone from every back ground. Also unlike several European and asian countries our high schools are free and everyone under the age of 18 is required to go by law.

If I recall, the americans were in korea since the start of the conflict and the main motivation for your involvement in ww2 was due to your direct affiliation to Britain, hell canada didnt sever their politcal ties to Britain until 1989 but I digress. The Canadian military has fought just as hard as we do and still do to this day. My Cousin is a colonel and served tours in afghanistan, he told me good things bout you guys so we respect canada as i hope you respect us.

Wow, those manuevers were amazing towards the middle and end, judging from the low speed and the fish tailing, I'm pretty confident that it's probably more agile than a MiG-29 or a standard Su-27 series Flanker. Those were more impressive than any non thrust vectored Russian fighter can do considering how slow the F/A-18 was going and stable it stayed. It would've pulled a Pugachev Cobra during the middle of the video had the pilot not hit the throttle.

The F-18E block 2 is a very good fighter. It's got an AESA radar, which is much more capable than previous generations of radars. It's got the MIDS datalink, new ECM, a reduced RCS - about 1/10 that of a su-35 and 1/100 that of a su-27/30-.
It's got better missiles than its competitors, the AIM-9X launched with the helmet cueing mounted system, and the AIM-120D, the new longer range version of the AMRAAM.

Well if there is one thing to appreciate about American fighters, is that they tend to carry alot more munitions and have much higher max take off weights=more weapons into combat. Russian MiG-29s and Flankers are bit more manueverable in many respects, but the F/A-18E/F could probably turn with a MiG-29 easily with those large as hell LERXs and larger wings compared to the old Hornet design. After watching this the F-18 could probably easily do the Pugachev Cobra, if the computer allows it.

This Ricardo pilot dude is badass. I saw a vid of his 2004 SH demo which was pretty awesome, I thought. He's clearly learned how to even fly this thing better I think since then, lol! Watch other SH flight demo's at airshows and they can't touch this flying by %50?? Anyway now Brazil and Denmark are supposedly looking at this plane. With AESA, it's avionics, self-protect and JHCMS, it's definitely a modern package.
I'd like to see LON nozzles though, CFT and perhaps X-31 type canards :D

Nope. They were built by McDonnell Douglas, then Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas. So now they are built by Boeing. Lockheed Martin may make some parts, but they are built by Boeing. You can go to Boeing's website, which isn't half-ass or a load of bullcrap.

Thrust vectoring, more powerfull engines and it would be much more stronger jet than SUs. Maybe it comes later...I hope

The Super-Hornet is a very powerful aircraft. The AN/APG-79 AESA radar is fully electrically scanned and is going to give the AIM-120C and new AIM-120D all the info it need to turn the Flanker into scrap. The electronics on the Flanker are more like the ones used by the USAF back in the early 1990s.

Nope it's not. If the Flanker is well maintained with current missiles, it'll get into head on long range engagement with Hornet. Anyway, Hornet new AN/APG-79 radar is superior n it's AIM-120C5 is proven superb. But R-27ER has more range with unsure effectiveness.
