@AE812 If the BIOS has a password you will need to unplug the computer and pop the coin CMOS battery from the mobo for a few mins so it can reset the BIOS.

Ok when i get to the boot tab i don't even have any of that stuff.I need to fix my computer because i downloaded a custom version of Windows XP. It worked fine until i downloaded IE8 and restarted. I got this message saying that windows has encountered a problem that is making windows not to beable to activate it And that is probally from the custom windows. I was lucky i burned the REAL Windows XP before this happened. I need to get this fixed. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM!

Yeah, it could be that your optical drive doesn't support DVD-rw

What are you trying to boot into? If it's something you've burned/compiled make sure it's working, and if you only have a CD compatible drive you wont be able to boot from any DVDs.

I compiled and burned onto CD-R. I wanted to boot from a CD-R + CD/RW Compatible drive. When my computer restarts it doesnt boot :/ Anyone know why?

well if its vista, aparently vista doesnt boot from cd. or if that isnt the problem then try magicISO to burn the disc it is most likely the fix to ur problem.

Nope, i trying to boot from an XP and yea i used MagicISO.

Though one source may be my BIOS Battery. Its dead. Maybe thats the problem? Well im not sure if its called a BIOS Battery or CMOS battery but that flat circular battery on the motherboard. It died a while ago. Should i go replace that?

Yup that would be why man. The cmos battery will let the bios remember settings so if there aint anything to remember what u told it to do then i doubt it would boot from disc. Hope this helps.

No problem. Great, i replaced my battery and it working perfect in terms of the bios settings. However my CD-Rom drive does not boot. The CD-ROM is currently set to the highest priority on the bios boot screen. The cd is a CD-R is being read as the LED is breathing, however it doesnt boot. Even my official XP Pro installation CDs dont boot :X

Im trying to mod my XBOX. And the files that are booted are used to mod the xbox to run DVDs, Music and Emulators. Just side info if your wondering.
