  • after watching this review, I bought the first book in the series... now i'm a huge fan of John Scalzi

  • haha this review made me laugh

  • well it looks like your fears have been confirmed, not only is it being made into a movie it's being written by the same person who is writing robocop reboot. Nooooooo!

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Your name calling, trying to push people around, and loosing your cool; you cannot hold a decent conversation and the madder you get the more you prove me and RomanSage right. I pity you man.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes You have the gall to call someone a Nazi simply because they don't share your opinion! Sounds your the one goosestepping Adolph! Maybe you noticed that I didn't exactly like the book either or did you think that calling something a "generic rehash" as I wrote in my first post is a compliment? Since you don't seem capable of holding a decent conversation I'll leave you to your madness.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes The speculation was as to whether or not the Old Man's War movie will be made. They don't make 'em like Eastwood or Tommy Lee Jones anymore.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes Speculation is just speculation. Only time will tell if either movies get made and even then if they're worth watching.

  • i didn't finish my Comment, i read this book and the forever war consecutively on advice of my dad, and i preferred this, maybe because i read the forever war forever peace and w/e the other pile of shit was (the one what really spoiled it); but i honestly think this and the forever war are just such amazing books :)

  • This is such a good book ^^

  • I looked up some information and I found out that Paramount Pictures is in the process of thinking about making a movie of this book this year. Didn't say that they gave the go yet.

  • @RileySkye100 From an a business stand point there's really no reason for Paramount to fund an "Old Man's War" film. First the story, while entertaining, is a generic rehash and second neither the book nor the author is very popular (just look at the number of views anything associated with Scalzi has gotten here on YouTube). I guessing if Paramount, or any other studio for that matter, can't get the rights to the film cheap than there is never going to be one made.

  • You forgot the first chapter of starship troopers, there they fight the skinnies, not the bugs :p

  • I devoured this book then ran out and picked up the next four. I am half way through The Ghost Brigades now but so far, it doesn't compare to Old Man's War. Pick up Old Man's War and if you like part three and are interested in the universe Scalzi lets you peek in Old Man's war, check out the rest.

  • i just bought this book. i enjoyed the ender series and saw that it was the same publisher. so i gave it a try. this book is skull-fuckingly awesome. this book seems like it could very easily be turned into a movie like Avatar but better. so long as the ppl working on it are not incompetent douchbags like M. Night Shymalan

  • Excellent book! A must read for everybody!

  • You vindicated oldwhitehouse's comment when you said "It's not deep literature". Furthermore his/her comment was an opinion so how could it be wrong? Are you implying that you know oldwhitehouse's tastes better than he/she knows them? OMW was anything but well executed. A fan of the mil-sci-fi genre could easily overlook the novel's flaws but to a reader like me who doesn't favor a particular genre Old Man's War is obviously flubbed.

  • great book

Starship Troopers is awesome and so is this

  • I'm not a sci-fi nerd (I'm a politics nerd) by any means. But my sci-fi buddys pushed me to read it. Very good, and an easy read. I'm glad I read this very interesting, funny, imaginative book.

  • hey filmnstuff, you should read the road

  • I love war novels and science fiction and in my opinion Old Man's War is one of the worst novels ever written. There is no substance to Scalzi's writing and after the first few chapters it becomes apparent that he rehashed Starship Troopers. In short this novel is weak sauce and I say that the book itself provides all the evidence needed to support this claim.

  • @oldwhitehouse

Wrong. I'm about 4/5 of the way through it now. It's not deep literature, but for what it is, it's very well executed.

  • After one minute, I want to read this book. No need to watch past that~

I look forward to your next book review.

  • This is an excellent book. I ate up the whole series in about 4 days. Thats one per book. I actually think the second book is a BIT better. Its basically the first from a different angle.

For those of you interested the series goes

    #1 Old mans war

    #2 Ghost Brigades

    #3 the last colony

    #4 Zoe's tale

There is also anouther book in the series called the sagan Journals or something like that, but its only 100 pages long apparently. I still want to read it though :(

  • This is a good book with so much ideas and I got hooked to this book so much. I read about almost all of the sequel.. But the only books that I didn't like as much were androids dream and zoe's tale. Scalzi's books are way better then twilight books, not kidding

  • George Lucas = God.

    Nuff said.

  • I like how you put Uwe Boll and Joel Schumacher with George Lucas. H's just a lazy arse who let ILM do all th work for Ep. I, II and III.

But for a film adaptation of this novel,

    Paul Verhoeven..?

  • i like your teast in books but i still think you shuld revew an edger allan poe short story or poem

  • They made a sequel to this book called

    "The Ghost Brigades"

  • Great review. I got the book at the weekend and am enjoying it, and the BrainPal naming scene was funny and the name he gave it... great stuff! Thanks for recommending this.

  • Awesome review! Could I suggest a book for you?

  • What's your suggestion?

  • First Blood by David Morrell.

  • @filmnstuff You should check out the Halo books. They're pretty damn good.

  • great review but i just have one problem and it's very minor. you sead that in starship troopers there was only one kind of alien the bugs. there were acrually 2 the bugs and skinnies. like i said it's just a minor gripe.

  • You're right. I read the book a while back and forgot about them. Thanks.

  • no problem.

  • I don't really read books, so can you review movies? I'm a movie buff.

  • Alemme01:

I understand that you're not into books, but I think you should totally check out "Odd Thomas", by Dean Koontz.

It stars a very likeable-but-odd (no pun intended) young man who has a weird gift.

Doesn't sound interesting, but it's great!!

  • good review. i enjoy all of your reviews but i enjoy the game reviews the most. i agree with just about everything you point out, most stuff your right and is just unacceptable, but some you have to admit, you talking like 15 to 20 years ago and the tec just wasnt there yet. anyway, good stuff
