or the see danger like a cat or something

  • watch?v=H0UEc0cfV0o

    I HOPE U LIKE IT ^^

  • he looks very cute =)

  • its used to alert their groups of danger.

  • thats their call that means that they sense danger, or heard a loud sound, or had a bad dream.

  • @cyberwolf1998 Tell me about it :P When i get up in the night sometime. Both my Degus go crazy cause they think its an predator! xP But they usualy stop when I go greet them :)

And tonight one of them probly had a bad dream, she was barking non stop, but at the same time she had those cute sleepy eyes! Like falling in an out of sleep, poor thing :P

  • So cute!

  • In their relationship, I wonder how frequently they get a wisker in the eye

  • чувак,это рэпчик

  • looks like a mini chinchilla.

  • That's so cute!

  • mine degus have orange teeth!!

  • WARNING, NAME YOUR DEGUS WITH START CHARACTERS CH , SSH cuz they react much more on those tones than on any others. Also if you trully love your degu, go to veterenar when he gets 2 years , and chek in ea 3 month. If he lives alone he might have some påroblems with teeth. Keep this in mind. Dont do my mistakes. I didt knew...

  • aawh I had degu's when i was little grandpa degu always did that when he was bored ;)

  • <:-_( poor squirrels

  • Mine used to do that in her sleep:( The people we got her from would throw her and squirt her with water until my brother took her and I think like every night for a few weeks she had like these nightmare until we made her more comfortable, but she passed away after 4 years of good treatment:)

  • nice video man... check mine out, she's adorable /watch?v=FVar6H3jcIE

  • Alright, I work at a pet shop, and we have a lot of these guys.

Male degus squeak like this when a) They have won some sort of dominance match, or b) when they have mated. They make this sound to show off, like a celebratory sound. That's why they usually hop onto high things when they do it, too- so EVERYBODY knows how awesome they are.

  • aww sweet how long do degus live for?

  • my degus do that all the time after they've fought or been startled, its either because they're scared, sad or got they've got the hiccups ;)

  • woah that doesn't look like a chin...i was confused for a moment, so cute tho ^_^

  • Aaaaaaaaawwwww!!!

  • I think he is singing to that music he's listing to in the background

  • I thought these were chinchillas.

  • @BurgerInParadice34 No, chinchillas are super-duper fluffy and have fluffy tails and big ears. Degus have short fur that isn't as soft, and little ears.

  • i always get degu on my hand and let to run in home or i play with him

  • It wants you to feed it to a cat.

  • LOL thats cute... XD

  • Also do you know where to get a good cage that isn't wire? or a wheel? I need help finding them. I may be able to build a house but probably not a wheel. Maybe..

  • mine do that sometimes too. It's usually when something startles them and it's like they want to stop but they can't. I think sometimes they would feel a flea on them and start doing that but I try to keep them flea free and they usually are. Sometimes when they hear my house door open one of them will bark lol like they are wondering if a stranger came in.

  • To all the people who have Degus:

Do they squeak loudly? I want to know because i'm getting some some soon and need to know.

    Replys appreciated.

  • @LucyLuLoop11 not super loud but i've had rats all my life and just got degus recently and they are very noisy and vocal. hope that helps-- good luck with your degu and remember to keep them AWAY from electronics or they will kill them

  • If i got a degu, I'd name it Degu ;) lol

  • Is that a 3 level cage if it is i have the same one :P

  • Loool my degu does that when my ucle's dog is in the house =p

  • my degu sammy also does that. :S i have five degu's.

one newborn baby two adults (sammy and his 'wife' fatty),and two of ther children ( Zeus and Kashmir)

  • I grew up with 6 cats, 3 guineapigs, 3 fishtanks, and a parakeet. Added a chinchilla to that list and promised myself not to get anything else. This little bugger just spoiled my promise...

  • iv found a wild degu in my pool in france.. and its all cold and i have no idea how to take care of it!! my 6 year old guinea pig died soo i have to use his hay and foood but im soo confused PLEASE HELP ME! D:

  • @99Kairi66 remember to NOT give it anything with sugar! :O guinea piggies like watery-sugar fruits, but degus are more sugar-free-grains, hay and sticks lovers and sugary things are really bad for their diet

and it need a big cage to play in (the wooden floors or some wooden/paper toys in it would do great), and a wheel to run in it :) and always have fresh water in the drinker

you can give it few paper handkerchiefs so it can make a nest from them, and a toilet papers roll

  • it was doing what a young child does after it cries for a while. It's sort of like the hiccups, but it's because it's exasperated.

  • awww .what are they

  • @duffandmalone It's a degu, :)

  • Poor baby! he is so cute!

  • this can mean that the degu can be in pain or destress so if he does it again take him out of the cage pet him for a bit or check him for wounds and take him to the vets this happenswhen u have 2 male degus they fight and get hurt

  • Its distressed get it checked out for splinters in its mouth that what mine had when it last made that noise

  • I read they do the bark after sexual intercourse. this scared me cuz i had two males in the cage haha.

  • One of my degus does that for about 10 minutes when he gets woken up abbruptly

i shouldn't worry about it for now =]

  • That's an ugly chinchilla

  • @despaul12 Durrrr its a degu.

  • @despaul12 moron.. it's a degu

  • @despaul12 its not a chinchilla its a Degu and that wasen't very nice

  • my degu starts to do this from 6pm to 11-12pm

    can i make it stop

and one more problem(i think it is a problem): mine bites the cage constantly

and again: can i make it stop

  • oh my god its so cute i love this sound and his mouth xD

  • Cute chubby cheeks!

  • they would be cuter if they were babies

^_^ i luv yew baby chinchilas

  • guard degu. it has ferocious teeth lol

  • Everyone, do not worry they arn't sick. sometimes they do it when they want attention. belive me, one of my Degus is 10x as loud as that xD

  • hes sick

  • ok i have a question.i got one for birthday a week ago and decided to buy another one .the thing is,first one is older they are both males and when i put little one in cage big one start mating....what should i do?????....and yes big one sounds like that after i separate them....damn now i think i was wrong when i bought another one :P

  • one of mine does that every now and again keep gtting worried :/

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

  • thats the sound he does after matig lawl

  • Tom is not barking or crying. It is a post-coital squeak. :) It was not a fight between Tom and Billy, but rather Tom 'letting off some steam' shall we say. It is not uncommon, or unhealthy- it happens. We've heard it from all male cages, as well as male/female when breeding.

  • was hat er (oder sie)??^^

  • was hat er??^^

  • looks like a wanabe chinchila

  • She is in pain.. Mine did it too.

  • @Ansoo89 No, when a degu chirps it doesn't mean its in pain. It just mean it wants to be held and given attention.

  • My Degu does the same thing... so i named him squeakers! Idk why he does it!

  • @ilovegayguys45 I reckon you talk shit so i'l name you shitters!! You probably take it up your new name sake. HAHAHAHA. I am a degu expert!!!

  • They are not crying!=)

It always if degu more than 1. One degu of whole company will be chief! And as chief he protects and barks on every one whos around! =)

Any way got 4 at home! They are so sweet! ^^

P.S. Some times they having night horrors, and they barking asleep! Thats so freaking cute!!! :3

  • is it a boy and a girl? it might be after sex hiccups.

  • Ours do the same thing, sometimes they do it after they've mated (male degus sometimes mount one another, whether its for dominance or whatever) as a kind of post-mating bark, sometimes they seem to do it when something's spooked them and they'll go on for about 5-10 minutes and then stop. They often keep barking while drinking, eating, running in their wheel, or doing every normal activity, which I always thought was really weird XD

  • i think its just singing to the music?

  • Soo cute !! I've got too Degu!! His name is Stewie (L) ! :D

  • looks a bit like hiccups to me actually, it happens to my guineapigs from time to time. :)

  • @Perryoo its not hiccups ! everyanimal gets it its called thumping. they r cumminitcating

  • does anyone know what the signs of bad in breeding are in a degu- because mine came from an SPCA and they were preganant when we got them, and now only the males seem to be having a problem with head tilting.

  • Hick up?

  • what do i do if part of my degus tale is off and its just bare bone or whatever is in their tail?

  • @JennexProductions It means your degus's tail fell off because it was scared.

  • maybe it wants you to get the camera out of his face,,, he's camera shy lol

  • no thats not crying just have a swallow

  • that means they got hurt, i read abotu this, its nothing much to worry about they help themselves back to health

  • I have two degus of my own I know that when they bark/cry it usually means that they have sprained their foot which is common in degus and nothing to worry about. Usually holding them helps as that's what I do with mine because it calms them down!

  • my degu does that when he wants attention

  • @PotterYouRotter7 my hamster does that...at twelve in the th f 'in mornin XI when he decides he needs some love :P

  • @abbielovesoasis mine does that too!

  • i could bet before he was sleeping actually they can dream and when they have a bad dream they screaming for help belive it or not i have those little nice things about 20 years and i have know a bit of them

  • the other one's like " SHUT THE FUCK UP.."

  • Mine does the same thing

  • poor baby!!! :(

  • sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo CUTE!!!!!!!!!!

  • my Degu ''barks'' in sleep. I think he saw some bad dream. ;(

  • It would even be better without the music.

  • no sound ?

  • you should hear my guinea pigs..there REALLY loud :(

  • awwe makes me wanna hug it. x3

  • The one next to him is like, "Oh my goddd. Shut the fuck up already! I'm trying to SLEEP!"

  • my degu barks like that when he's had a big scare, maybe the poor degu was just frightened :(

  • mabey if your degu was fighting he might of felt sad or upset. i think degus bark(or cry) when they are sad or upset. hope the advice helps.

  • is that degu beside him a female because that usually means he mated with her

  • Oh it's nothing to worry about. Degus often 'sprain their feet' which causes them to bark or squeek. This normally happenes to degus so if it happenes again you'll know what it is.

  • Aww it was a lovers spat :( I'm pretty sure Billy gave in to Toms big bulgy eyes after those 15 minutes....

  • wehn they do this they usually want attention or the cage to be cleaned i love my degus :3

  • @noobhealz402 actually its more like an over-sized gerbil :) rats are bigger than degus.

    just sayin'.

  • omg degus are like chinchillas !!!

  • what the hell is a degu?

  • @Gestaposaurus good question

  • the next sneezing panda.... ffs

  • are these rats?

  • @IIIxKiiNGxIII noo stupid, their chinchillas, duh!

  • @TheCrazyAnimalGIRL they are degus

  • @TheCrazyAnimalGIRL do chinchillas have tails like that

  • @TheCrazyAnimalGIRL lol no, it is degus, or also called octodons, maybe its the same family, but it is not chinchillas

  • Looks like hiccups to me.

  • mione hav done that too, though mine are both female, in males it usually done after they have mated.

  • Poor little guy! Come on to daddy´s arms! I´m gonna hug you all night! xD

  • sounds kinda like a guiena pig :D soo cute

  • aww,so cute <3

  • What they're really saying: - hey! hey! get that camera outta my damn face. hey Cyril, Cyril tell him!! Cyril "ughhhh!" LOL!

  • I think the one on the right is complaining about the one on the left. See how it actually climbs on the left one to point out that it was bullying it lol

  • hey lol i just wanted to say that they normaly climb on top of eachother, especially when they sleep!! They're so cutee!

  • Poor little guy! Come on to mummy´s arms! xD... Except i´m a man!

  • LOL

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet... ♥

  • tom and billy? thats weird! (and cute) My faaaaaaaaaaaaavorite band, TOKIO HOTEL, the twins guys-tom and bill-are really cute and awesome...JUST LIKE CHINCHILLAS! DejaVu! creepy, but cool!

  • flatulence

  • my degus do this often, mostly when they're sleeping and something disturbs them, like if i bump the cage or something they'll have a good old shout at me.

i just pick up whichever one is upset and give it a hug and it calms down [:

  • Mine do this all the time.

As someone else said it seems to be after mating.

I think, personally, that it's like a 'Hey, look what i just done' call/boast?

  • the other one doesn't seem to be bothered by it

  • My male did this after mating,

  • theres a reason for that, I read up only about it a few days ago they squeak after mating to let the other males know that he has mated with a female, its alos a sign of triumph like for humans this would sound like "Oh Yes! I got a lady pregnant hehehe" if you know what I mean :)

  • No....these sounds have nothing to do with mating. They are very common with degus especially at night time if they are startled or disturbed. Some degus will also squeek like this if they alone with no other degus around.

Degus make many sounds, but they are all very distinctive. This has nothing to do with mating ; )

  • I know...My comment was a reply to JadyEmy who said that his degu did this after mating and I was just explaining why, dont worry no offense taken :)

  • MY degu this this 2 someitmes at night and wake me up i jest put hem out of cave and play hwit himg good 5-10 mins the i put hem back in if he start to do this agin i put hem aout agin

This works for my degu :)

  • My dego do this*

  • I don't think it likes classical music!

  • @petsbekapets My mom said the same thing! :P "Maybe he doesn't like that song!" :P I laughed so hard

  • they're supposed to "sing" when they're happy from what I've heard. Especially if you have a pair.

  • can you hold them or are they pretty vicious natured?

  • i dont think vicious is the right word...

  • @tanner87: You can hold them. They are truly sweet creatures.

  • Don't fret about it. My Degu does the EXACT same thing when she's sleeping! And she's very happy, so it's nothing bad.

  • what r deguses

  • its got tourettes!

  • are yours little?

  • Very cute degus :)

  • One of my 4 degus did this every morning whenever my mum walked in my room.

Like a wake up call lol

  • sounds like hiccups to me...

  • one of my degus does this a lot too :( it always sounds like crying and it's breaking my heart almost :)!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet *_*

  • Degus tend to bark when the have mated or fought with another degu as they like to mark there terorory and let the others know whos boss or who is there mate. Hope it helped!

  • sounds like hiccups lol so cute! <3

  • have the degus been spoked at all or just stressed

  • my degu's never bit me, they only tasted me sometimes when i had touched food :D

  • yes u are correct they never bite only if u have the smell of food on u

  • Yeah thats normal. One of my degus did this so many times. I don't know what it means.. but there was no problem...

And fearlessdog22, yes degus can bite! When I had a new one, these was scared en bites me. It was bleeding seiously.

  • amen to that- one of mine has bitten me a few times and it sucked

  • aw!

  • maybe tom lost and he was complaining to you about his loss xD

  • aww it sounds so cute.

  • ....do Degu's bite??

coz i saw the teeth on the one who was "crying/barking" and they looked dangerous....

    lol

  • Rule of thumb: anything that has a MOUTH can bite you. And yes, Degu bites hurt like hell, so I'd avoid it.

  • Our degus started looking at us funny 3 weeks ago, & became more & more aggressive, prowling around the house after dark. We woke up one night to our child screaming. When we ran into her room, she said she had woken up & found the degus gnawing on her. Now all our bedroom doors locked at night, & we keep pepper spray by our bedside. We can hear them moving around the house, knocking things over & making those angry vocal sounds that degus make. We just lie still & pray for daylight to arrive.

  • Lol...thats one of the funniest things I have read in a while ; )

  • ???

  • huh ? are you serious ?

  • @poetxG4 what the f are you friggin talking abouuuuuuuut? =))))) i hope that`s a joke (although i don`t see the ha-ha in it), or else, srsly, go seea doctor. these days you can get almost any mental illness cured with the right medication.

back to the point. i soooooooooooo like that look on that degu -.-

  • @poetxG4 o.O
