I don't know. In my country, I never learned about the world war II in school as well, but that doesn't mean I won't have the media,internet and people to learn from. This's not just history. I would like to believe that these people were an exception of a large and informative community.

first of all you're a troll and thus cannot be taken seriously about your views on jews but Japan was NOT trying to surrender. They were ready to defend the mainland with their lives down to the last man which would of resulted in probably more deaths than the European theatre. It wasn't until the atom bomb was dropped when they realized that their country's destruction was imminent. They first thought we only had 1 bomb but when the second struck they thought we had more.

@drmoonrat First off, they were interment camps. To say they were "concentration camps" would imply that they were the equivalent of Auschwitz. The Americand did not gas and cook the Japanese in giant ovens in an attempt at mass genocide. It was merely to prevent possible spies from sabotaging the war effort on the home front. After Pearl Harbor the Navy was so crippled, they knew that had Japan invaded the mainland they would not be able to be stopped until as far as Chicago.

@kydrice The term "concentration camp" doesn't imply genocide, it just means it was basically a prison camp. Interment Camps and Concentration Camps are more or less the same thing. The Nazi "concentration camp" in Auschwitz was actually an Extermination Camp, so to say the U.S. had a Concentration camp would carry or seem to imply the similar connotations.

They also would refer to them as Resettlement Camps or just Detention Camps.
