@TheFlyboy005 It's been on the market for a long time now. They even have the second probably 3rd generation models of it out. Pricing started at $250k a year ago. Probably less now.
It's too bad the propulsion is still from yester-year. The idea is forward thinking, but the components are still archaic and dated. I think I'd like to see the canard extended out a bit as well for stability reasons. But I give these folks props. I'd have to say that this is the best transitional vehicle that I've seen yet.
What an ugly car! Honestly I would buy myself an electric car, or a sports car. As for flying, I would buy myself a Piper Aztec F, Cessna 210, or a Cirrus 22GT.
what im wondering is if there is a squad of police airplane cars ready to pull over the airplane cars that are driving recklessly or have a tail light out
Thats alot of elevator trim drag (up elevator), given the rather short coupling in pitch, (is there a short period oscillation in pitch?) but it beats Rutans twin fusalage for practicality.
Eh? What you bitchin about? Most small 4 seater planes cant make much more distance than this either. I live in alaska and even here you got cities within ~350 miles of each other. Every place in the lower US has cities and airports within a few dozen miles of each other thats how populated the country is now. So I doubt this would be an issue. Also most people rarely drive more than 400 miles to go vacation either, thats about the same distance this can do (but this is more fun).
Despite a helpful weight exemption from the aerial feds, according to the new spec a fully-fuelled Transition will be able to lift only 330lb of passengers and payload: it can't get airborne carrying two normal American men. Also the price has ballooned from $148k to $250k.
No car from the 50s would be able to meet modern stringent US vehicle safety restrictions. Unfortunately, to drive on roads you'd have to pay for car insurance and registration and what not as well, BUT, consider that it usually costs several hundred dollars a month to hangar your aircraft, and whenever you fly somewhere you have to get a rental car to go elsewhere as you're trapped at the airport, and this uses cheap regular gasoline rather than aviation fuel.
@daretodream86 See, I can go punch something and stop being irritated. But you'll still be a lazy dumbass who isn't bright enough to click to the video link right next to this one.

200,000 airplane/car that does neither well..... or better yet 150,000 regular plane and 15000 regular car....hmm. Oh, yeah I forgot that i can call a cab or just rent a car when I get to where I'm going instead of a minor car accident causing 50,000 to fix or killing me in the air when I leave. Good concept but impractical use= stupid unless building for you or just to say you can. find a more useful way to spend your time
Boo. This is such a terrible idea. They are pushing their optimism beyond the point of rationality and common sense. They are selling an airplane, not a flying car.
This won't be for you "average Joe sixpack". I can see high powered business types owning it, espically ones who own residences that perhaps have there own runway out back (think there is a place like that in FL)
It would be perfect for a "silo home" just build a landing strip and drive right into the garage.
LOL and moller skycar spent 25 years and millions of dollars of investors money, to just end up getting caught for investment and stock fraud. There was no Moller Skycar...
have any of you knuckleheads talking shit about this inovation ever attempted to get a pilots license.. The FAA doesn't mess around and neither should anyone flyin a car. furthermore this thing is too damn expensive for the average idiot alcoholic that lacks the better judgment to get behind the wheel drunk!
no more getting violated at the airports! hahaha this is awesome..just think in 50-100 years or less...this will be the dinosaur of 'flying cars' who knows what humans will come up with next!
Body shops in the future will need aerospace engineers. Consumer: "How much to repair this minor door ding?" Bodyshop aerospace technician: "Well, you see a tiny ding. In reality, you have major structural damage to a stringer and a spar. This will cost about $17,000 in repair work and $150 in paint and prep."
It's only a number of years until much of what we see on the road will be in the air. Trying to argue against this innovation would be equivalent to arguing against the first automobiles. Don't fight it.
@loginlover It's not a flying car, just a plane that can propel itself along on a flat surface. Planes have been able to do that for ummm.... EVER. It was just a question of getting it to a manageable size for the actual roads, but I am certain that it handles like poo. Put it this way, sane people would NEVER buy this if they want a decent, comfortable, everyday-use car, ONLY of they want a plane that can be stored in a a garage and can be driven to the airstrip. THUS: YOUR argument is invalid.
@locomotosoto I'm not sure you understand my position, loco. All I'm saying is that it is a car...that flies! EVEN if it "handles like poo" (please excuse the language, your words sir, not mine) it may still be a valuable role in paving the way for the futuristic flying car we all imagine. For the time being, it is still an excuse to use the counter-argument: "Oh yeah? Well, I've got a flying car!" THUS: Your argument is valid, but chill out man
@loginlover Lol, no, I get it, but what *I* was saying is that it's a PLANE that drives, not a CAR that flies (which is your position). There *IS* a marked difference! Hence my illustrating the point with the real-world example that its buyers will NOT be people who want a car that occasionally flies, but people who want a more convenient PLANE than a non-collapsible one... I will be proven right, just wait and see.
Looks like a RomiIsetta with wings. Ugly, to say the least. What do you italian types have to say about this cheap copy of your vintage personal cars with wings?
Well, it is OK to dream, but, couldn´t it be more good looking? "It flew, YES" at 57? Did not even the factory crew believe that that shit would ever fly?
Amazing "TOY"!

Another MIT project that proves that money can be wasted on engineering unrealistic products. This reminds me of the iwalk robotic foot.
See: iwalk on a robotic foot

@tmdncn30
This is a privately owned company that has developed this product, MIT has nothing to do with it.

Good concept but impractical use= stupid unless building for you or just to say you can. find a more useful way to spend your time

what happens if you run out of gas?
ZebraFishable 1 year ago
@ZebraFishable I'd assume the same thing that would happen if a regular plane ran out of gas.
CapitalistOverlord 1 year ago
@ZebraFishable, Parachute system for small planes like this is the answer.

How far can you travel on one tank of unleaded gasoline in the air though? It seems like it would have a pretty short range.

it still hasn't got the looks, the SF looks, you know?

$200K or so? It could be greener than air and the average drive couldn't even dream of it. Unrealistic.

Cool idea, but still impractical.

Stickman53fe 1 year ago
@Stickman53fe It's a good point but remember that if it becomes more popular the prices will go down with supply and demand.

It's only a number of years until much of what we see on the road will be in the air. Trying to argue against this innovation would be equivalent to arguing against the first automobiles. Don't fight it.
SCutler19 1 year ago
It's a flying car! All your arguments are invalid
loginlover 1 year ago
@loginlover It's not a flying car, just a plane that can propel itself along on a flat surface. Planes have been able to do that for ummm.... EVER. It was just a question of getting it to a manageable size for the actual roads, but I am certain that it handles like poo. Put it this way, sane people would NEVER buy this if they want a decent, comfortable, everyday-use car, ONLY of they want a plane that can be stored in a a garage and can be driven to the airstrip. THUS: YOUR argument is invalid.
locomotosoto 1 year ago
@locomotosoto I'm not sure you understand my position, loco. All I'm saying is that it is a car...that flies! EVEN if it "handles like poo" (please excuse the language, your words sir, not mine) it may still be a valuable role in paving the way for the futuristic flying car we all imagine. For the time being, it is still an excuse to use the counter-argument: "Oh yeah? Well, I've got a flying car!" THUS: Your argument is valid, but chill out man
loginlover 1 year ago
@loginlover Lol, no, I get it, but what *I* was saying is that it's a PLANE that drives, not a CAR that flies (which is your position). There *IS* a marked difference! Hence my illustrating the point with the real-world example that its buyers will NOT be people who want a car that occasionally flies, but people who want a more convenient PLANE than a non-collapsible one... I will be proven right, just wait and see.
Stay frosty! :)
