What happened to the Howdy Holmes, Rich Vogler and Tom Sneva 3 car crash in turn 1 only a few laps after Sullispins where Danny almost gets taken out by Sneva which actually causes that caution period, Jim McKay even comments "And somebody just getting by there", then another comment from him "People go to automobile races just to see crashes"?!

Dangit why did it skip!? The best part of this race is when Danny Sullivan saves it and recovers! Best driving I've seen from 1982-2009. I don't have this footage myself, could you upload just this save?

At 0:40 Sam Posey says that Sullivan flat-spotted his tires in the spin. Actually, according to longtime track announcer Tom Carnegie, the tires were NOT flat-spotted! That shows how great Danny was!
Tom Carnegie; one of the great speaking voices of our time. (He's in the movie "Hoosiers" just before the start of the State Championship Game.) This was one of two Indy 500's I've been to. We had seats in the infield right by turn two and coudldn't believe it when we saw the spin. Great driving.
You should add some kind of tag for the spin: "spin and win", "Sullivan spin", something like that. That's what I was looking for, but it didn't come up in a search. Oh well, at least I found it eventually, so thanks for the post!
Danny's one lucky guy, that's for sure. The edge he enjoyed in this race was driving a March with the mega-budget Penske. Mario's Lola was not as fast, but Mario was the superior driver by far. A few years later, the Lolas ruled.
Face it bennie, it was a stupid move for danny boy to pass on the apron, and just extremely lucky that he pulled out of such a spin. Yes, he was a pretty good driver, but I think you just like his pretty face, doncha??

Yes a few secs. Sorry bout that. Just from my tape that part was worn. So I made sure I showed the replay and the interview with Sullivan during the caution period. Other then that the rest is fine!

At this point Danny's crew (since there was no live TV) had no clue that he had just spun until just before the end of the race.

79 81 84 85 87 88 Penske brought home the trophy. The pass Danny made in the same spot he spun but that time he held it for the win was amazing.
I saw my first 500 in 69, never would have guessed that would be Mario's one and only win.
Missed 78 and 93, but none since!
