They really didn't sell out. RCA gave them complete control over their music and didn't censor them, if their music sounds different it's because they wanted to try a different style. Are you really going to say you want a band to sound the same throughout their entire career? And after their two records with RCA, they went back to independent. By the way- their latest album sounds rather similar to this, you were probably talking about Bright Lights of America.
