  • Aww, this and Down Below the Street were my favorite sesame street songs as a kid

  • OMG!!!!! my eyes just watered from the memories of this clip!!!!

  • look like a Packman mode or video game mode at 1:09 when I saw this as a child.

  • i love this!

  • daaang this takes me way back! i love the original sesame street!

  • big tuuunne

  • IS HAVING FITS IN BRAIN WHY DO I REMEMBER ALL! OF THESE SONGS! I WAS A SESAME STREET ADICT

  • 19 streets of sorrow... aw poor kid

  • II cant believe this came out in the 70"s because when it was On Seseme Street, the greatest kids show ever made, I rememember it when i was a kid and i Was born in 1982.

  • Clearly, by looking at the technology involved, this was from no earlier than the mid eighties.

  • This sing can be heard in Sesame Street Numbers for the PC.

  • Weird...I think I remember this, but at the same time I feel like I've never seen it before. Kinda like dejavu.

  • How funny would it be if someone started singing this on the bus :D

  • 1block 2 block 3 my mum is still waving at me 4 5 6 The kids are starting to mix 7 8 9 I'm trying to keep from crying 10 Count to ten Man I wish I was back home again Yeah life can be so cool When it's 40 blocks to school 40 blocks from my home
  • Oh ya!! I remember dis one ahh brings back memories

  • reminds me, i hate to say it, but a 40 oz, of beer!

  • Me n my mom were loving this!

  • I remember getting this tape on my 4th birthday by my mom's friend. I'm now 20 and can still recite this whole song...((sigh)) Oh how the times fly

  • Unexpected cameos by kermit and the count, pretty cool

  • Forty's pretty cool

I went forty blocks to school

    Forty blocks from my home

  • It wasn't that far from Farley's home. Kermit the Frog and Count appeared crossing on a crosswalk. Keep this posted! ;-)

  • this song helps me out counting to 40

  • Now, this was one of my favorites as a girl. Still is. I saw it on the Rock & Roll video. Whoever wrote the music must've studied up on blues!

  • And this clip is definately 1980's (despite the 1970's tag- it has the MTV-style opening credits tag!)

  • they may have added that later when they re-aired it...

  • In NYC where this looks to be set, there are three "P.S. 40" schools- one in Manhattan on East 19th Street, one in Brooklyn on Ralph Ave, and one in Jamaica, Queens on Union Hall Street.

  • pannoni: Queens is EXACTLY where the Street is taped, so the Jamacia school seems to be where this is set. XD

  • pure brilliance!

  • this so sweet

  • B.B. King would be proud.

  • And speaking of 40... That's how old Sesame Street is!

  • i had this on vhs when i was little and i used 2 watch this tape like every day be4 kidnergarden but that was many years ago

  • Ha! HA! Sorry about the typo! What I ment was don't you think that poor dog might get LOST after following the bus 40 block to school?

  • That song was AWSOME!! BTW, about that dog chasing the school bus, don't you think the poor creature might get after following the bus 40 blocks to school?

  • For some reason, this reminds me of Biohazard - Five Blocks To the Subway

  • LOL this came out in 1989, not the 70s.

  • Funny the school speed limit is usaly 20mph but see on 1:20 the speedlimit is 40mph they should lower that limit becasue its a school zone

  • 40 blooks/12 blocks per mile = is just 3 miles away

  • I haven't seen this in YEARS!!!

    Thanks!!

  • According to Farley, I think my home from The Twin Willows (Early Childhood School) in Appleton was at least 40 Blocks or so from my home back then.

  • Hey, I went to Twin Willows back in my preschool days! My brother, Hunter always screamed and cried when he went there "AAAAHHH DON'T MAKE ME GO!" Hey, do you remember a guy named Donald U.? He walks funny, kind of? I know him! He lives in Sheboygan now. Hey what's your name? My name's Cassidy Lewis. You might remember me from Twin Willows, probably.

  • My names "John", but I pretty much like to go by my nickname "Luigi" since I love the Mario Brothers and stuff.

And that's cool to hear that you went to the Twin Willows back in your Preschool Days. And BTW, I don't know about a guy named Donald U. But thanks for making sure.

  • I certainly know that for sure. But the one on this one singing the song is purple instead of green.

  • WOW! Haven't seen this one in SO long!

  • Kermit & The Count make a cameo in this one.

  • This skit was acutully on the Sesame Street 35th Aniversery special at the end; that is actually amazing in my opinion because i thought me along with "a few others" would actually remember this skit!

  • Very interesting.

  • When I was a kid they played this all the time. Hadn't ever thought of it since then.

  • I think I enjoyed this one so much as a kid because no matter whether the character was a human puppet, monster or a human kid, everyone was accepted as an individual. The important hidden messages of this show, you go to love it. [x

  • When I was a kid I never got this cos I live in Australia and we don't measure the neighbourhood in 'blocks' but now I get it :D

  • Hey I live in Australia too! :)

  • @moatguy Yes, me too...I had this video as a kid

  • a golder oldie.I remembered it..

  • I still sing this song and no one seems to remember!! Aww Memories..lol!!

  • I still sing this song and no one seems to remember!! Aww Memories..lol!!

  • that bus is a GMC 170 school bus

  • Wow, that is so cool that you're able to even identify what type of bus that is! Can you take a guess at the approximate year it is (i.e. is a an 80's style or a 90's style bus)?

  • You have to love all these old songs are great!!

  • if ya gotta go 40 blocks to skool you live in a big city such as NYC or Chicago lol

  • Well, Sesame Street *is* produced in New York City and aimed primarily at urban kids, so that's not much of a stretch! :)

  • Farley is sooo cute!! :) He, Fonz(dog) and his song is sooo awsome! 5/5

  • check out the monster with the ponytail. This must have been the special ed bus.

  • omg..... in new york in november... COULDNT stop singin this!!!!!!!!! life can be so cruel... goin forty blocks to schoooool..... forty blocks from my home....

  • "40 blocks from my home........"

  • well...i have to admit i thought that my best friends were joking when they sung this everyday on the way back from the swimming pools to school. "foooorty blocks from my home" well anyhow it caught on and i have been singing this song to mah little sis ever since. i cant believe it this song is un-ficking believeable.

  • Did Jerry Nelson perform both Farley the lavender Muppet and Farley the green Muppet? If so, that'd be pretty interesting - they sound like they're both him.

  • Yeah, I do believe that was Jerry Nelson performing the lavender Farley here. No one but him could do a boy's voice like that.

  • disturbed child lol

  • What year is the GMC bus in this sketch?

  • 40 blocks in 2 minutes.. wow how fast was that driver actually going?

  • not to mention stopping at a red light half way there.

  • And the REAL Public School 40 is on 19th street! Ah, the magic of television!

  • @kbrinks Probably about 40.

  • I remember this one. One of the reasons I have an obsession with NYC now.

  • What happened to green Farley? This isn't Farley - or is it a different Farley?

  • Great blend of live kids and Muppets in this one. I loved this as a kid.

  • LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVE THIS

  • this is one of those great videos which was fun to watch and made it a fun way to count

  • I'd really love to know who the animator was who created the settings and processed dalmatian footage for this song. Whoever it was did a lot of stuff for Sesame Street during the 80s. At least I'm assuming so---this has a very similar look to other segments from the same time, like "And The Word Is No."

  • I remember this it's so funny. Because I have known this song sence I was a little girl . I love it.

  • oh,That was courtesy from my old videotape back at Tampa Bay,FL.I got that from the thrift store.

  • Cool

  • I always loved this video. I thought 40 blocks was a ton too, but I guess it is with traffic.

  • is so koll

  • It is from the '80s. I saw a 3rd-generation Toyota Celica in the first frame & the first year for it was '82.

  • Actually this is from 1990. I remember seeing it in 1991 and 1992 as a kid.

  • I tought 40 Blocks From My Home was from the 80s (puzzled)?

  • Both lavender and green Farleys are awsome. But the lavender one is pretty cute. 5 stars I might have forgot about this one. Thank you

  • I remember watching this clip with my niece back in the 80s, and liked the school bus, which was a Blue Bird Body, and a GMC Engine

  • Life is indeed cruel if you live in New York and have to go 40 blocks to school.

  • What's the count doing outside in the daylight?

  • He was Daywalkin, i mean Jaywalkin lol

  • I remember this song as a kid! :)

  • I wish we could a behind-the-scenes look at Jerry Nelson in the recording studio recording this song!

  • Jerry Nelson's awesome!

  • Finally! I've been waiting for this video to turn up!

  • Kermit & The Count was walking!

  • I'm surprised the Count wasn't driving the bus, so he could count the blocks!

  • This one I remember a lot. I felt sorry for the dalmation. He did not wanna leave his mate so I don,t blame him.

  • That poor dalmation! I still remember him chasing the bus every time I think of this song!

  • yeah when i was a kid I used to always want a dalmatian because of this video. but my mom got me a boston terrier instead :(

  • So do I.

  • Okay.

  • I even was sad when the dalmation got to the school and he was locked out. I wondered if Farley heard the poor thing barking and took him home. :(

  • Yay, I've been looking everywhere for this!
