II cant believe this came out in the 70"s because when it was On Seseme Street, the greatest kids show ever made, I rememember it when i was a kid and i Was born in 1982.
1block 2 block 3 my mum is still waving at me 4 5 6 The kids are starting to mix 7 8 9 I'm trying to keep from crying 10 Count to ten Man I wish I was back home again Yeah life can be so cool When it's 40 blocks to school 40 blocks from my home
In NYC where this looks to be set, there are three "P.S. 40" schools- one in Manhattan on East 19th Street, one in Brooklyn on Ralph Ave, and one in Jamaica, Queens on Union Hall Street.
That song was AWSOME!! BTW, about that dog chasing the school bus, don't you think the poor creature might get after following the bus 40 blocks to school?
Hey, I went to Twin Willows back in my preschool days! My brother, Hunter always screamed and cried when he went there "AAAAHHH DON'T MAKE ME GO!" Hey, do you remember a guy named Donald U.? He walks funny, kind of? I know him! He lives in Sheboygan now. Hey what's your name? My name's Cassidy Lewis. You might remember me from Twin Willows, probably.
My names "John", but I pretty much like to go by my nickname "Luigi" since I love the Mario Brothers and stuff.
And that's cool to hear that you went to the Twin Willows back in your Preschool Days. And BTW, I don't know about a guy named Donald U. But thanks for making sure.
This skit was acutully on the Sesame Street 35th Aniversery special at the end; that is actually amazing in my opinion because i thought me along with "a few others" would actually remember this skit!
I think I enjoyed this one so much as a kid because no matter whether the character was a human puppet, monster or a human kid, everyone was accepted as an individual. The important hidden messages of this show, you go to love it. [x
Wow, that is so cool that you're able to even identify what type of bus that is! Can you take a guess at the approximate year it is (i.e. is a an 80's style or a 90's style bus)?
omg..... in new york in november... COULDNT stop singin this!!!!!!!!! life can be so cruel... goin forty blocks to schoooool..... forty blocks from my home....
well...i have to admit i thought that my best friends were joking when they sung this everyday on the way back from the swimming pools to school. "foooorty blocks from my home" well anyhow it caught on and i have been singing this song to mah little sis ever since. i cant believe it this song is un-ficking believeable.
Did Jerry Nelson perform both Farley the lavender Muppet and Farley the green Muppet? If so, that'd be pretty interesting - they sound like they're both him.
I'd really love to know who the animator was who created the settings and processed dalmatian footage for this song. Whoever it was did a lot of stuff for Sesame Street during the 80s. At least I'm assuming so---this has a very similar look to other segments from the same time, like "And The Word Is No."

Clearly, by looking at the technology involved, this was from no earlier than the mid eighties.

And this clip is definately 1980's (despite the 1970's tag- it has the MTV-style opening credits tag!)

pannoni: Queens is EXACTLY where the Street is taped, so the Jamacia school seems to be where this is set. XD
