@tunnelportterror I partied there 1976-78 myself, cut school from Crestwood and we rolled many kegs down that mountain. Maybe I partied with you sometime! Awesome memories.
you guys are nuts because all the sewage from the entire town of MT. TOP gets released into the Wapwallopen Creek, which is the creek you see running there in the Powder Hole- that is SHITWATER from a town of 15,000 people upstream
Actually, its a small tributary that leads into wapwallopen creek, not the creek itself. The water is quite clean. The most danger would be from the chemical fertilizers used in the farms on top of the mountain.
When I was a kid we camped there. Do those crazy hippy dudes still live on hippy hill? Is the rope swing still up river at the other water fall? Man that's cool to see again. Always said I'll go back.
Even if you're not jumping it's a great place to swim and just hang out in general on those hot summer days, but like everything else somebody has to do something stupid and ruin it for everyone.
Unfortunately it's illegal, and there have been more crackdowns recently because somebody apparently died there a year or two ago after jumping in and getting stuck.
I know of several spots such as this, one in particular still takes my breath away each time I come upon it, tucked-away, off of the beaten path, in North Central Pennsylvania. Thank God for the beauty of Pennsylvania. In Summer, due to the coolness of the hollow in which it is situated and the mist generated by the falls, the air temperature can be 20 degrees cooler than the hotter, ambient, surrounding air. In the Spring it can remain encased in ice until mid-May. What natural beauty.
head to nanticoke, thru glen lion, lee, then make a left at the stop sign in mocanaqua onto rt. 239 - about 5 miles down the road, you reach wapwallopen - there's places to park on either side of the bridge there.
is that a railroad bridge at the top of the falls?
