  • Like a chicken bone??!! LoL Dude, your a beast! Great review, I was expecting just the mantis but then you started pulling out all these other toys. Nice collection.. I have big fingers, but yours are bigger so I think I'll go with the Emerson vs the 5.11. Thanks

  • are there other good karambits besides , mantis, ( the retired spyderco ) 511 and emerson ?

  • that's crazy cool looking, looks deadly, bet the edge on that thing in shavingly sweet.. awesome review, i'm jealous.

  • the mantis karambit is one of the coolest folders i have ever seen.awesome

  • so you live in hawaii?

  • Would you make this part of your EDC?

  • @Sccuba182...the 5.11 and Emersom Karambits I EDC'd at one time but, I'm carrying an Emerson CQC-15 and Strider SMF now.

  • I suggest you check out Mantis' website. They have some pretty cool knives over there...

  • Hellz. Where did you get that 5.11 Karambit and what did you pat for it?

  • @EnduringEagle ...I got it at a local gun shop here in Hawaii for about $79.00

  • real nice looking knife but i hate how alot of karambits have like a 1 inch blade

  • snap the collar bone that guy is useless

  • whats the best folding knife you know of under 3 inches cuz of my states laws i cant carry a fixed blade or a folding knife over 3 inches

  • @lpchicky09 ...blade length is usually not something I concern myself with...I'm currently carrying a Super CQC-8 & Strider RW-1(see videos).

But, yeah if it's State Law...I llke the Benchmade Griptilian line...their Mini-Griptilian blade length is 2.9" cost =$79.00

    Spydeco's Persistance...2 3/4" $49.00 smaller version of the Tenacious.

I guess the "mini" version of most production knives should come in under 3"...Benchmade, Spyderco, Cold Steel...it's just a matter of finding one you like.

  • @lpchicky09 ...FYI: I don't own a mini versions...

  • how i wish i have money to buy that emerson or tarani karambit......haaAaYYyYy......

  • @yahzine20 i know the feeling. i ordered a emerson clone rip from ebay. Hopefully it is decent

  • Do u need a licens to carry

  • No you don't need a license to carry a folding knife at least not in the United States.

You do need to abide by your State's Laws though...

  • How do you rate the mantis karambit as a self defence/EDC knife compared to the other karambits?

I mean, it look´s like something you have laying around the house and occasionally show of to your friends cause of its cool space-age design.

  • @Mekurion ...if that's all you had it could be used defensively.

but, I prefer the Emerson or Steve Tarani's karambit designs...

  • This is one of my favorite videos that you have done. You've packed a lot of good info into this one. I want one of those Mantis karambits--Mantis makes excellent knives, I have the Mantis Folding Pry Bar, and the Mantis Chaos Folder, and they are top notch.

    Great video.

  • Thanks...those are (2) good knives you got.

Maintaining this level is always a concern of mine.

  • thank you for getting back to me so fast i just baught it thanks for the vid and advice

  • very nice vid love the knives how is the quality of the mantis karambit mk 3?

  • High-Quality...Top-Notch...

  • Great video! for the first time I was able to see multiple karambit knives side by side. Great job.

  • thanks Man...

  • Comment removed

  • Not with the type seen in this video...smaller tactical folder-type.

but, the Cold Steel Steel Tiger you commented on is another story. it's bigger and travels on a wider arc...I nicked the inside of my right forearm manipulating it. that has the potential of slashing someone's arm open ...hopefully not mine...lol!

  • i always want go to Honolulu been to Maui when i was 21 meet my gf and her family and turn find mine lol

  • yeah the outer-islands are more laid back. Honolulu is more metropolitan...city living.

Wakiki...shops, restaurants, night life. With Ala Moana shopping center nearby.

But, drive out to the country side for big surf like Makaha or Banzai pipeline.

Paradise with a high cost of living...lol!

  • Haha.... Who would be the usual suspects man?

Anyway... nice looking collection and 5* as usual JT.

  • Hellzzarmy, I stumbled on to your board breaking videos yesterday, and immediately subscribed when I saw your sweet collection and good attitude. You actually take time to read comments.

And today, I've been eyeing the 3 Mantis Karambits for their great price, and when I looked up the review, I found yours.

Would you suggest this knife to a beginner collector looking for a new everyday carry?

  • The MK-3 is a fine product but, I think it's a little small...granted it could hurt, maim, or kill...but, not my 1st choice to EDC.

I would recommend the 5.11 tactical Steve Tarani Karambit ot the Emerson Karambit. Both more expensive Tarani $99.00 and the Emerson around $239.00 but, I feel they would be better for combat purposes.

The MK-3 was about $59.00 I believe so for a little more you could get the Tarani.

  • If cost is a factor more conventional tactical folders like the Spyderco Tanacious are good alternatives...

  • I've actually been looking into the Journeyman model. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

    Thanks mate. I need a job. :P

  • i broke someone's collar bone in a fight once. i later learned it only takes 15 pounds of force to break it. now if i am carrying a knife, ill strike with the pommel to the collar bone if my attacker is not a lethal threat

  • i have that same journeyman, and i was wondering... do you carry that by the clip or just let it loose in the pocket? i found that carrying it loose in the pocket is a faster draw for me. I would reach in and push on the lockback and flick the blade out and would be ready to go with a regular grip. do you have any recommendations for drawing the blade into a reverse grip whether from resting in pocket or on the clip?

  • When I did carry it I carried inside the waistband in the front/right. I already had tactical folders in the pockets.

As for manipulating the blade from a forward grip into a reverse all I can say it practice, practice, practice. Use the worden Travel wrench for safer training.

hands on, training is what creates muscle memory and helps you become confident with the blade.

  • thanks for the advice JT!

  • OSSU!from japan here!

new at knife collecting and ALREADY with some doubts,i hope you can give some back up J.T.

i bought a 5.11 masters sv30 by interweb recently, but as soon as a got my knife i readed taiwan printed in the blade?

i thought the tarani was an usa made blade.

    did i got an counterfeit?

or the masters and journeyman series are all made in taiwan?

  • Off-hand I'd say yes they are made in Taiwan. and Taiwain is turning out good quality products...if it's made in China it's and inferior product.

When I get home I'll verify..don't have my 5.11 series Steve Tarani Karambit on me...

  • thanks man!

  • Verified...yeah you got the real deal...

  • YOUR THE MAN!

    arigatou gozaimassu! : )

  • Great video J.T. I've been thinking about investing in a Tarani kerambit, a local martial arts store sells them along with other Tarani knives. Also been carrying my Travel Wrench for impact these days.

    5 *

  • Thanks Man...been a while huh...

And thanks to you the term, "Mongo Meat Puppet hands" is associated with me from time to time...lol!

  • whitch KARAMBIT would you recomend i want one

  • I like all three...now if you're asking if I had to pick only one of them...

    I'd choose the Emerson Karambit...

  • where do you work that you can afford all of there very nice toys???

  • I like to maintain a little anonymity so I don't say...sorry to disappoint...

  • The international Kapap association adopted type of this karmbit knife to the use in the organization. The knife arrives with the logo of the organization on the blade.

  • thanks for the info...check out their channel...the knife witheir logo must look pretty cool...OSU!!!(KARATE EXPRESSION)

  • I trained with Datu Kelly Worden in Tacoma Washington for 2 years and I was there when he "invented" the travel wrench. The title "datu" was granted him by the late Remy Presas, founder of the modern arnis system. I will say that having trained in the Philippines with the masters there, NO "foreigner" is a "datu" in the Philippines, Period. Either way Kelly's a great guy, all be it a bit of an ass.

  • thanks for your insight...

  • dude i use these things to pic grapes with, they're fun fun

  • Yeah...I got see the rest of the line...when my friend's shop gets them in...

  • possible entrapment...lol!

  • Hey man, I have a couple questions about the travel wrench. Can you give me the dimensions? I don't know if I should buy the standard size or the small (I'm a male, medium glove size).

btw, good knife video. Lord help the guy who tries to jack you!

  • thanks...got your 2nd comment too...sorry didn't get to the computer till this evening...

    Roughly it's: remember it's "L" shaped

    5 3/8" Length

    3 1/4" Width 3/8" Thick

1 1/4" Hole Circumferance (inner circle measurement where you put your index finger)

I hope this helps...didn't know they come in different sizes??? J.T.

  • Hi JT, I have another question. What do you think about the Mantis Krambit? I'm thinking about getting a Krambit but don't want to spend too much for right now. Do you recommend the Mantis model? I know the Emerson version must be awesome but it's a little too much for me to shell out at the moment. Thanks!!!

  • Mantis Karambit-$49.99...well made/solid construction worth the price. I really like it but, not really an EDC knife for combat purposes. I mean it is deadly but, I use it at home for training and playing around w/like a balisong.

Steve Tarani Karambit; Journeyman-$99.99/Master-$149.00 I've been carrying this one for a few weeks now.

    Emerson Karambit-$249.00(from Emerson)...ebay $167.00 and up. I hope this helps you make a decision...OSU!!!

  • i luv your vids

    der all such nice knives

    great vids keep them cuminn

    5 stars

  • amazing knives JT!!!! loved the video!!!

  • Thanks...one thing about knives they never run out of bullets.

  • i just check out sum mantis knives the are all pretty sweet.

  • I asked the owner Dale, while looking in the showcase, where'd this come from? he said...he didn't know. Asked his girlfriend Martha and she said she just put it out and that it flys off the shelf.

I know it wasn't there a few says ago and they just came back from a buying trip in Texas. So they're waiting for restock on knives...good find...real nice knife...OSU!!!(KARATE EXPRESSION)
