Hey DSK, they are put in salt water for only about 30 seconds, after harvest, and this is to remove any parasites and things such as costia that can cause them problems in the transition from grow-out ponds to filtered ponds.
ok so if i have a natural pond that has been there for years and was crated naturally by nature, could i put my koi fish in it? instead of putting them in a preformed pond??
Wow... i love those koi... the colors and different varieties... i keep one of these in a big tank and for 7 years i watched it grow, it's still just over 35cm long!!! Why isn't it growing?
I see... the thing is that I was gonna dig a pond for it but there wasn't much room... I think it would be better suited in a lake. But it's illegal to release the fish even though it's a good thing...
it's not so much the pond size but the bloodline of the koi that do the trick I now a friend that got a small pond with a 53 cm large kohaku(bought it 10 cm large) he also heat the pond in the winter so he can feed them in the winter. grt Bas
Koi fish were found like their wild cousins, all greyish and dull, hundreds of years back in China, they are then perfected with all the different varieties and colors in Japan.
Yes I'm aware of their original colors..but I mean who woulda thought carps to turn out so beautiful. It's like saying I'ma go take in bass and turn them beautiful. Just curious of the color development and if there are natural rivers full of beautiful koi and how it was very first discovered...hard to explain but yea ahaha

I buy one from a tropical fish store in 10 inches and I got it for 2 year but it grow 2 more inches. Can any one tell me why
1yeng8 4 years ago
tank/pond too small probably. Everything grows to suit its environment - little fish/big pond = danger (big incentive to grow fast or be eaten)
little fish/little pond = not too much danger, they live comfortably so they don't need to grow.

Why the water is muddy Does it kill the koi
How long are they when They're 3 week old
Can anyone let me know
1yeng8 4 years ago
Its because they grow fast in mud pond than a tank.

nightraider121 4 years ago
it's problay because the tank is not big enough to allow the fish to grow large and live easily
