  • U look like that player in Barcelona with that hair

  • A polarizer would have been good to use for this one, since it would've eliminated the reflection of the blinds in the window. I mean I know it was just a test/example shot, but I always think about the best possible composition of an image.

  • I don't get shutter speed! I shoot in A (aperture priority) mode. And I know I select the aperture f# and the camera chooses my sp, but my pictures are too dark or not showing at all or blurry. What is one to do now if we can't change the sp when on A mode?

  • @AF0093 you are probably shooting in a dark are and its making your shutter speed to slow to hand hold which gets you blur. You have to let more light in by raising the ISO or dropping the Fstop.

  • so the shutter speed controls the light?

  • @xxridesundayxx Shutter speed controls how long the shutter stays open. Aperture controls how much light is being exposed. :)

  • Sweet, Jared, all your videos have been very informative, and since I'm probably going to get a D3000 as my first dslr camera, this is going to really help me when I start taking pictures for the first time. You are the best to really explain how it is.

  • Hey jared,

I was wondering how you keep detail and colour in the background outside the window. When i take similar images, the detail is blown out...

  • Hello Jared,

Great tutorial (as always)! Thanks for creating and sharing!

    Regards,

    Photo Editor

  • wicked video, really enjoyed it

  • fro ,knows shit ! im sorry im just mad cause everyone says d3000 d3100 d5000 are entry levels, yet they are so expensive for the unemployed, that they seem pro !

  • I made this mistake earlier in the week when I took some shots up in the mountains. There was a lot of backlight and my subject came out really dark. But because I shot raw, I was able to use the adjustment brush to lighten only the subject and save the image.

  • Am confused about 1 thing, when you go outside in direct sunlight and your using manual. How does one know what aperture to set the camera on to begin with. If you can explain me this that would greatly help

  • @digitalwolves look at the meter inside and start with lining up the + - in the middle and go from there.

  • @digitalwolves you can go on P and let the camera tell you what is the right shutter speed and the right aperture or you go on M and choose the numbers and look at the bar on you display.

  • What is a STOP?

  • im learning so much from you thanks!

  • How do you get the photo info to show up in your pictures like you have it on the top left of your pictures??

  • @ajm12971 That is under view loupe info.

  • Superb help video here!! FroKnowsPhoto!!I get all this now thanks to you and 95% of the time i now shoot raw (just bought the t-shirt too) and I do have some images that the subject are to dark so I've opened them in Light-room 2, I'm looking everywhere on how to change the F.stop to brighten it, I know this will now sound daft but I assume it's the exposure "slider" I need to move right? Or is there a "slider for F.stop?

  • @PracticalGuitar exposure will brighting and darken the image, nothing is going to change the depth of field well im sure there is some gimmick out there for that but i wouldnt use that personally.

  • @JaredPolin ahhh,so F.stop is another way of saying depth of field or aperture. Its just that on this video you say you are making this image brighter by moving 2.5 stops off. So 2 stops is different to 2 F.stops?

  • Superb help video here!! FroKnowsPhoto!!

  • I'm hopefully going get d3000 in three weeks. How many RAW pics can I take on a 2gb?

  • what photo editing software are you using?

  • @AFIhigh019 this is lightroom

  • @JaredPolin I have Lightroom v1.3 but am just learning to use it, is it pretty similar to v3? Youre videos are informative!thanks!

  • @AFIhigh019 can you import Raw into LR 1.3? i changed my settings but i still cant wtf?

  • at last someone kind enough to do a tuturial series for the nikon d3000

just got myself one and as a complete beginner i find your tuturials very helpfull

    many many thanks my friend

  • pumped for this series to get off the ground, waiting on my D3000 to turn up (ordered just before finding these vids!) and now looking at getting the money together for a decent lens! random question though, is there an etiquette for shooting in the streets or people you dont know? i will soon find out eitherway lol :P

thanks for all the tuts and information, really good stuff!

  • @Pims1eur Best bet is to get a feel for the people u are shooting even if u don't know them. Just try and use the longer glass and people usually don't know ur shooting them.

  • hey thanks

  • got my new D3000, an hour ago,, quite interested with your vids about it, but honestly, dont know how to set those iso, metering mode?etc etc.. for now maybe i should stick first with auto mode while im getting use to it,, hahahaha!

  • @joeyjularbalcasilla its really easy to get started, turn it on the P mode and hit the bottom most button on the left back side and you will be able to select each individual setting like iso focus and such.

  • Oh wow! Very informative! Thank you!

I'm also new to the DSLR world and the D3000 was my first choice! :-)

  • @QueenYvette glad it helped out!!!
