I was fortunate to have known him even for a short period of time. He was a first class guy. I have such fond memories of Gib. Have you ever met someone that whenever you think of them, picture them, or recall something about them it always brings a smile to your face. That was and still is Gib to me. I can still picture him as if I saw him a month ago. He has always stayed in my memory. I guess he really made that big of an impression on me."
@guntgrunt - have ya got in touch w/ 8/4 men on their site(s)?
(From 1rst cuz 2 Donald Gene Gibler - B/8/4, asst. gunner gun 1 - "Big, Bad and Ugly", K.I.A. 18Feb71 near border of Laos, Operation Lam Son 719. He rests in perfect peace.)
The young man to the left, the first one speaking is "me" Bill Baker of Tucson Arizona. I was assigned to support the 8/4 guns, but I was with "B" Btry of the 1/44th "DUSTERS" which were twin 40mm cannon on track that were protecting these others weapons. These artillery men are and were our own self protective force. The location of this 'circle the wagons' base we on QL-9 just north of Lang Vei, about 3 clicks south of Lao Bao which is the border of Laos and Viet Nam.
Point of Information so this video is available upon the anniversary of the loss of Donald Gibler - This video was converted from a 16mm film marked "COURTESY COPY", of a short news clip, given to a fellow soldier of Donald Gibler, after Vietnam.
This soldier, one of the interviewed, looked into copyright legality/infringement before conversion, which is covered by "Courtesy" status.
