The guitar's not so bad...definitely not the hardest in Grizzly Bear's/Daniel Rossen's book. It reminds me of Travis picking in a way, the alternating bass notes are similar, and then the high notes are plucked together instead of individually like Travis picking, and then it also sounds like he's adding the third string in between all of that. If you've worked on your timing a bunch, this song can turn into a piece of cake with a bit of practice.
You guys are funny ! This song is about as easy as it gets. All it takes is being a guitar player. Yeah if you are a weekend player its a pain in the ass. In which case you shouldn't be crying about not being able to do it. Hey boys put that piece of shit video game down and become a real Rockstar.

@jasonjaxxson its nowhere easy man, listen to it; hes got two different rhythyms going between the bass pattern and the 'bells'. If you think its easy put your version up and show us how its done.
@RolloTomassi1892 hahahaha! i like that.. If you think its easy put your version up and show us how its done. i dont play guitar, but it sounds a bit like bossa nova.
It totally is a bitch to play, you have to play those high strings whilst playing the bass melody, but Daniel Rossen is such a BAMF that he can do it looking away and whistling.
If the douchebags on college campuses that play their annoying guitars under campus trees sounded like Daniel Rossen's guitar, I would have failed out in one semester. Grace that can't be taught man, grace that can't be taught.
it IS a bitch to play on guitar. but if you start out slow and get down the chime on the top strings and on what beat of the walking part the chime happens then it isnt too hard.
The first time I heard this I thought it was two guitarists or an overdub.
Daniel Rossen is NOT to be fucked with on guitar. One of the most thoroughly surreal and effortlessly graceful acoustic guitarists in indie rock today.
Listen to how disparate the top-two jangle-strings are in their timing against that low creepy-woods pattern. It's almost like windchimes randomly clacking beside the actual guitar melody.
Everything about Grizzly Bear is true art, and Daniel Rossen is legend.
They never cease to amaze me in any and every way possible. They are definitely some of the most talented musicians I've ever heard. They really just know how to feel...
@tlohmoD The tab on ultimate guitar (version 2 one) isn't that bad. Keep in mind that he's probably doing improv on a lot of the higher notes, only keeping the bass line consistent. Once you get the basics down, go ahead and make up your own pattern, too. Keep it fresh.
@mondosolorzano I can't whistle and I'm not sure if I actually could do the rythm while playing but I can sing other parts while playing. All the rythmic things he does on the guitar are really quite simple once you get the hang of it and the pattern is the same all the way through.
There's music...and then there's this. Haunting.

totally. I thought I got it right but was forced to work it out again. Playing your 2 fingers against your thumb is quite annoying.

@finally555 it's not too hard, just takes a good right hand. it's a beautiful guitar part none the less. Grizzly Bear is nothing short of an orgasm.
