  • superb

  • I don't think MJ ever professed to being the greatest dancer on earth. I think he has always honored his mentors. The bottom line is, MJ not only duplicated the masters, he became a master himself!

  • MJ definitely learned from the best.

  • Michael Jackson got the moonwalk which is the most famous dance out of all his dances from "Jeffrey Daniel" it was originally called the "the backslide".

MJ was a big fan of Soul Train in which Jeffrey Daniel had been a back-up dancer. According to Jackson's sister La Toya, Jackson was a fan of Daniel's dancing and sought him out. He soon met, hired and learned from Daniel.

  • FANTASTIC editing!

  • CHECK THIS OUT..........REALLY GOOD INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF BILLY JEAN!!!! INCREDIBLE!!

    /watch?v=3nJ4hxX7aVI

  • That was fun! :) Thanks! :)

  • Most excellent

  • Really, no offense, but this sucks. I couldn't stand 10s of footage.

  • when fred astaire says you're the greatest dancer of the century, you know you must be really good

  • Very nicely done. Thank you!

  • Superbe.

  • Sorry that was May `83. :)

  • @8bobthebuilder The television broadcast was in May, but the actual performance was in March, or so I believe :)

  • Fact: after MJ performed Billie Jean at Motown 25 in LA in February 1983, Fred Astaire called him up and said he saw the performance and watched it twice on vdieotape and congratulated MJ ... as they met up some time later, Astaire was most intrigued by one particular move MJ did that night, wjhich was...you guessed it...the Moonwalk!! :)

  • He was SO GOOD.... it's such a pleasure to watch him...

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • Can you say putting on the ritz?

  • That's dandy!

  • How clever.

  • wow he is amazinggggg

  • super merci

    thank you it's beautifull

  • @evacar2802 Merci! Je t'en prie

  • WTF!! 4:33 So this where Michael got his signature moves from, Fred Astaire!

  • no way man, this video didn't work for me. the idea you put some clips together just didn't work

  • This guy is good really good innovative and cool at it like Micheal Jackson say he like escapepism and illusionist he fot the bill Thank for this. Fred is good But Micheal can do everything he can the tap and a all those move But can Fred Spin like Micheal lol abit unfair but that was really good

  • MJ used Astair and James Brown which is why he was so great

  • well...from his book moonwalk he said that they were his role modles and he wanted to be like them...so when he was small he used to try to copy em...that does not means that he used and and by the way he ALSO dedicated the book to fred!=p! lol

  • Wow he's brilliant. Never saw him before. I read moonwalker and MJ said how he used to watch them from the side curtain. Hmm can see some of his moves here :)

  • MA-RA-VI-LHO-SO!

    ----------

Congrats! Very very beautiful, good work.

    Fred -> Mike = Perfection.

    Ty!

  • This is FABULOUS!!! :)

  • aha!

so Mike used some of Fred's moves

Fred is amazy..i wish he traveled by the time machine and dance on billie jean.. he would creat new moves then

  • Everybody uses someone else's moves, very few, create their own independently out of nothing.

Great artists inspire each other and go on to do even greater things. fred Astaire said MIchael was one of the greatest dancers of the 20th centuary, and called him his "descendant". *wink*

  • lol..its true how u say it coz michael said that he actually dint invent the moonwalk,BUT copied it from someone of the streets! lol ;)!

  • Great video! thank you!

  • Great job esp since they knew each other.

  • Excusez moi but Fred Astaire was the best and Mr Michael can´t be compared with him..

  • The video is not comparing the two. They're both great in different way. Michael adores Fred. As a matter of fact, Joe Jackson used Fred to trick Mike once to sign recording contract for Columbia. He promised that he'll arrange dinner for Fred. Of course it's just a joke.

  • this is funny

  • it's so well done ! great !

  • Very cool!

  • Why are some people taking this so literally? This is a cool editing that does get the beat right with Astaire's moves most of the time esp. the musical interlude in the middle of the song which corresponds to Astaire on the wall/ceiling. Nice work to the editor/author of this.

  • how good is this guy!! I only heard of Fred Astaires talent after getting into MJ many years ago, all I can say is Wow!! can meewhy MJ loved him and the likes of James Brown, great video btw too!!

  • Fred Astair was MJ's fave dance and roll model ?

  • tezozomoc2001

You are one clever git! I could believe that fred recorded this song, based on this video. Be proud of yourself, you are talanted!

  • I really appreciate that, man. Thanks!

  • @McFlymcflangie this is genius.

    Top marks.

  • Comment removed

  • A TRUELY MAGICAL VIDEO- I GIVE IT 12STARS OUT OF 10! I could not stop laughing because it is so amazing how Fred Astaire's mesmerizing dance moves just fit so perfectly with MJ's "Billie Jean", truely magnificent.

I can really see how Michael was influenced by Mr. Astaire. Now,I can almost visualize MJ, Fred , James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr. and Gene Kelly all dancing , from cloud to cloud, up in Heaven. WHAT A SIGHT TO BEHOLD.

    THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • Really beautiful!

  • fred and michael damn it i love yu both♥ :P

what is the actually video for this called again??

  • puttin on the ritz

  • I got the idea of what you were going for and while I would have picked a different song for him to dance to. I do think that it shows that dance is another universal language. After all MJ did use a little Fred Astaire in mingled with a little James Brown and created his own thing. All together I liked it.

  • im sorry but this is juts fred's 'putting on the ritz' and freds ceiling dance!!

  • look people. this was doctored in adobe's software. fred astaire did not do smooth criminal. google it. go to imdb. this is called revisionism.

  • some of Astaire's tap dances are not in MJs Billie Jean. The moonwalk was not in Astaire's. I know others from the time in the African American dancers were doing it or versions of it, but again, MJ said he was influenced by all of these dancers. No news there.

  • I WOULD respectfully disagree. But given your comment...I will just disagree.

  • wowowowow brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • two of the BEST ever!!!!!!

  • BTW youtube the Nicholas Brothers in Stormy Weather and just sit back and watch the whole video.

  • Michael can also do street dancing with all the rhythm like James Brown and Jackie Wilson

  • The Comment under mine's is absolutely correct.

  • Please understand, Michael Jackson is truly the greatest dancer and entertainer of our time. MIke simply took his inspirations from Fred Astaire, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and street dancing. In other words, he did what all others have done before him...he took snippets from each of his dance mentors, and made the dance moves his own...simple as that. And Michael did a magnificent job! RIP Mike.

  • The Dance master before Michael Jackson came along!!

  • also in 4:02

  • are some of you on experimental drugs? Fred is good but he is far from God as some guy said before and he is far from being as good as Michael Jackson. He inspired Michael in a few ways but in no way possessed his inovation or raw talent. Believe whatever delusion you will but Michael Jackson is easily the best performer/dancer/song writer to ever live.

  • thank you

  • Fred, you're a god...

MJ, you'd better be thankful if you see him up in heaven!

  • Quote from Fred Astaire himself "Oh, God! That boy moves in a very exceptional way. Thats the greatest dancer of the century. "

    Enough said!

  • nuff said.... !!!!!!!!!

  • The Fred Astaire+Michael Jackson Smooth Criminal must be seen

  • I loved every second of this video!!!

    WHAT TALENT!

    You hit everything just right.

Hey folks, this was not just a tribute, it's an example of some fantastic work on making an all new video.

I have not seen better on youtube.

    Editing Perfection!

It's put together so perfect, I can't even give words to what you did.

If your not in the business, you should be.

    Thank you!

  • Wow. I really appreciate that! Thank you!!

  • i was brought up on fred astare movies i LOVE MJ he is and always will be the king of POP .But you did a nice job on this video well done nice tribute to MJ :-)

  • I don't think anyone should try to mix Michael Jackson with Fred Astaire... frankly it takes away from Fred Astaire.

  • you all dont get it do you. have you really seen Fred dance. They are two different people in two different times. And for their times they were the best. This video is not really showing the real Fred.

  • i agree great comment

  • i concur..lets not get crazy

  • Don't forget Ginger Rogers. She danced just as good as Astaire, but she did it BACKWARDS and in HEELS.

    And yeah, Astaire owns MJ.

  • Fred is good but i wouldn't say he owns MJ, like 'TinyTim2701' said they where both good in their own times but i think MJ is a bit better but thats just my opinion

  • classy!

  • Brilliant editing: I wish people would stop arguing about who was the better dancer.

Each admired the other. Astaire was a film icon who inspired Jackson. Astaire was a fan of his. Astaire after seeing Thriller and Beat It for the first time: "Good lord, what a marvelous mover".

  • =) Fred Astaire danced on walls and ceilings, Michael Jackson walked on the moon <3

    Two true genius!

  • omg his foot work is UNREAL !! no wonder michael was so good he learned from the great people i have never seen this ........and i've been a MJ all my life and damm fred astare is amazing look at the way he moves....

  • You bet! Michael picked up a lot from other great dancers besides "James Brown" take a look at "Jackie Wilson" this guy could do incredible stunts!! I love the way he moved... :-)

  • Oh snap! @ 3:06

  • Thats part of the Billie Jean dance!!!

So is 4:11 but it's in the wrong place.

    Still awesome!!!

  • and 4:35 too

  • You're referring to his billie jean performance at motown 25...and yes...those are some of the moves that inspired his performance!

  • lol funny stuff lol i couldn't stop laughing. But yeah both fred and michael are amazing. Michael was inspired by fred if i'm not mistaken. And fred called michael the day after he made his billie jean performance on tv

  • for sure michael 's leader

  • great job!!

  • Very creative, excellent job! I'm sending this link to all my friends.

  • Great job on this, you put real care into it...

  • TERRIFIC !

  • A++

it's exciting what technology offer theses days. You've created a professional and in sync broadcast-worthy short film. On spot editing.

Tezozomoc, would you entertain us with one more video? I'd like to make a request that you take a Fred Astaire song and have Michel Jackson dance to it.

Then you can show the works side by side. It may more challenging to have Fred step into Michael's shoes because the beat is faster but if you could have Michael do so, those should be magic shoes...

  • That's a wonderful suggestion! I am in the process of building a new computer just for video editing. That may be the first project I do!

  • You don't think Fred can keep up??? lol... have you ever seen Fred tap??? One of the best in history..

This is really good..... enjoyed it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funny! Enjoyed it, thanks for posting.

  • Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson were my two favorite dancers. i think this was a great idea. i'm hoping that it will inspire someone to create a montage from of their dance sequences to create a duet of them dancing to this tune. i think THAT would be really great!!! (now that's a project for you budding video technicians)

  • @gmanjam Like you, my favourite dancers are also Michael Jackson and Fred Astaire. :)

  • My G*d, this is amazing - thank you for creating this, so wonderful, excellent job. Love them both.

  • Brilliant! ...thank you!

  • This is F-ing Amazing! It brings tears to my eyes. I loved them both so much, as we all did. Thanks so much mate, this is sheer brilliance!

  • So Excellent...and Fred Astaire admired Michael Jackson's talent..thank you for this video. Such gifted dancers..I love Fred Astaire!

  • Excellent! Thank you.

  • Must have taken ages to do this.... Great song choice. Have you done any others

  • Well all of the videos on my page are all original work. I haven't done another video like this one though.

  • the *BEST* jackson/Astaire mix I've found... VERY well done. 5 stars

  • Cool man. Thanks!

  • Happy 110th birthday Fred

    u rock

  • wow i didnt realise he was that old! Long live The king of Pop and The King of ballroom

  • awesome!! thanks :)

  • Your genius level is obviously too high for me to comprehend. I had no idea that this was Michael Jackson's song!!!

  • Haha... gotta love a brilliant mind!

  • It's not just the music stuck on footage of Fred Astaire.

You don't even have to look closely to see, that it's fitting rather well. I wonder, did you speed up or slow down some video parts to fit better? Or is this just some coincident?

This video is really fitting my taste, so thx kind sir for this epic win :P

  • Well since you asked...yes I did adjust the speed of the footage here and there to go with the music. Some parts obviously hit on the down beat...such as when he taps his cane on the floor but I also wanted to capture the smoothness of Astaire's movements. So not everything hits on the downbeat. This is a smooth song, so I wanted to keep a smooth flow. Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you could appreciate it.

  • People, you can debate whether the video is on time with the music or not. What you can't debate, and this is the crux of this video, is the fact that Michael's many dance persona was in part heavily influenced by Fred Astaire. He has publicly stated this and is obvious to those who understand dance. In fact it is obvious to those who possess eyes. This does not mean Michael is not original, all the greatest ( and Michael was one of the few greatest) acknowledge their influence to the past.

  • first half minute a bit dodgy but then BRILLIANT if you have rhythm. great, love the cane landing to the tune. SUPERB

  • first off. its not the best video i ever seen.. and i cant do any better.. so thats out of the way..these people dance for our pleasure.. and im glad for it..i love musical compilations..shah have a seat and watch

  • I agree with ane4ever. You've just stuck Billy Jean over some footage of Fred Astaire, and for some of it it's not even in time. I don't think this took a remarkable amount of effort or talent on your part, and you need to learn to be able to take criticism. You're over-defensive about your work.

  • Whether or not you think it took any effort or talent to do this is irrelevant. I do, however, take exception to somebody calling me a fool or claiming that I am just trying to promote myself through other people's work. I put this video together because I wanted to do it. Plain and simple. I posted it on youtube because I thought some people might like to see it. That's all. But I do take offense when people start talking to me like I'm an imbecile.

  • Yes, I see what you mean. But I still think you're too defensive for your own good. 50% good reviews is a good percentage. And 50% love it or hate it is even better because it means you've started a debate, and you should be proud of that. An artist has to learn to take all criticism or none at all. You've got some good reviews on here and some bad ones. Listen to all or none of them, it's your choice. Wishing you all the best.

  • I appreciate the well wishes. I'm really not very defensive at all. In person I'm very laid back. I'm definitely open to criticism but I don't take insults kindly. I guess that's a con of the internet...that people tend to use insults rather quickly. The purpose of her comment wasn't to critique the video but to just put me down. That isn't necessary.

  • The person who did this video missed the point of dancing big time. With dance is not so much about who is better or who respects who. It's about expressing music and RHYTHM! And this video has no rhythm, better to watch astair or michael alone. so even if they both respect each other, cuz we all know they were both geniuses, neither one of them would respect this video.

  • That's funny...cause I think you missed the entire point of this video! lol And believe me, I know a thing or two about music and rhythm. I'm not sure why you're so hateful...perhaps you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning...but I'd recommend that you go outside and smell the roses. It's a beautiful day! =)

  • i'm not really that hateful, i only have big lack of respect for fools. but you are right, it's better to go out and smell the flowers then watch your lame ass attend to promote yourself through other people's genius. stay kool and if you want praise, try making something good instead of making a bad video out of two good ones (if you know it or not, that was the point of your video)

  • I think it took a lot of talent to put fred astaire footage to michael jackson music. I think the EDITING was the point of the video.

  • Thank you. I really appreciate that. There are still some rational people left in this world.

  • First of all...I'd recommend some lessons in manners. I think you definitely could use a "refresher course". I have no desire to "promote myself through other people's genius" as you claim. Instead, I venture into many film projects, some of which I post on youtube. Yes...I actually create the content that I post. If you don't like it...fine. But I dare you to put your stuff out there for the world to see, only to have some hate-filled person attempt to belittle you.

  • Astaire was a true genius.

I can see the influence on Jackson's dance style with some of his moves. Both are/were brilliant dancers.

    Nice job with the edit..

  • This was incredible! thanks for sharing.Michel once said that he was most honored when Fred Astair called him after watching his Billie Jean performance to tell him that he thought he was a h*** of a dancer! great job!

  • Thank you. That was one of the reasons I wanted to do this. I know people keep arguing here about who was better, this and that. But they're missing the point. Michael Jackson and Fred Astaire had great mutual respect for each other. Both were innovative entertainers.

  • 2 guys that everyone copies now days..cool video

  • Damn, wow, much respect should be given to Fred Astaire!

  • Scenes from two of my favourite movies, "Blue Skies" (Puttin' on the Ritz) & "Royal Wedding" (You're all the World to me). . .

    well done.

  • thanks for the wonderful comments!

  • Great video experiment!

  • Fred Astaire is one of MJ's idols.

  • Thanks for the vid

  • great video!!

  • woot!nice!

  • No it was 2004, in Fred Astaire's most recent film... he copied Michael's style and cites Jacko as his idol.

  • Idiot, he was doing this long before Michael. The last musical Astaire did was in 1960. He not only danced, sang and played the piano in many of his movies, he was considered one of the best dances that ever existed. Tap, ballet, and jazz.

  • Really??? You don't say... are you serious... no kidding... well I'll be... NO SHIT SHERLOCK!

  • eh eh eh eh

  • i wanna see that, that would be wicked

  • mike copied and imited fred astaire!!!!!

  • Michael took his inspiration from a lot of greats_ he studied them when he was young and took the best from each and perfected that which he used .. He learned from the Masters

  • thank you... that was perfectly said

  • Michael Jackson is the NO.1 of all time

    我最喜歡 Michael Jackson ,我來自台灣 ,

    I am Sevorlaga !

  • Love love love Fred Astaire. Been a fan since I was 2. Made me take tapping. Then I saw Misha and took up ballet at 3 1/2. Still doing both decades later :0)!!

  • actually fred was a fan of michael's. he telephoned mj after he performed billie jean on the motown special. it was after that that michael stated his admiration of astaire.

  • this is actually very god, well done. shame about michael though, a fall from from heaven . . . .

  • the thing is fred and Michael do 2 totally differne tways of dancing, Michael does his type of dance to the best, and Fred does his to the best.

  • Oh btw the clips selected to go with this song are very very well put together to make it look as though fred is dancing to billie jean.

  • thank you!

  • Fred will never be better than MICHAEL!!!

  • Michael is no better than fred as fred is no better than Michael...they are two of the best as well as others, there really is no true "best" each dancer brings something amazing to the table and does there onw thing.

  • Fred Astaire is the great Dancer.-. but i gotta Say Michael is better.-. noone can even compare with Michael Jackson.,.,.,

  • Michael Jackson will always be number ONE!! In my book. Plus Fred is ballroom!

  • Fred Astaire is Fred Astaire.

  • Fred was THE dancer of his era. MJ was THE dancer of his era. I can't say who was better because they were from different times and I can't rightfully compare them like that. I will say however, that I absolutely LOVE Fred Astaire.. always have.. (Thanks Gramma!) This is a good video!

  • Yes, Fred is really really one of the greatest. I´m glad he was Michaels idol...

  • lol dat was cool

  • That was great! I loved it! Thank you so much!

  • Cool

  • Just a technicality for all you guys. I enjoy the comments, by the way. However, Michael DID admit to sleeping with a young boy. But it was ONLY sleep that he admited to...no sexual connotations. I've slept with my parents...they haven't molested me as of yet. lol And I've slept with my nephew...and I'm not a child molester. Can't we just enjoy artists for their craft?

  • This is great. Too bad it's off a TV. The editing is excellent.
