This is a historical fiction movie. Johnny Tremain didn't really exist. But with the war between the 1700s and 1800s (can't remember), dumping the tea in the sea and all that other stuff, it actually happened.

Bullshit, that applies to people who still technically work for a company in United States and live abroad. Even then you can write off up to 90K a year or something like that. If you leave the country you might get your assets and retirement vehicles taxed, but if you permenantly leave you wont be taxed, because you're no longer a citizen. Oh, and many other countries have expatriate taxes as well. Canada is one of them.
