I think it was pretty great awesome tattoo and Tom waits is always a plus and to all the other people below the alter ego of duke was him indeed but he didnt always tell the truth in his work and its really hard to find whats fact and fiction so just shut up Depp or not its still a HST tattoo

it is nice. and i understand its more so about "the meaning behind" the art. but it isnt a HST tattoo. and i have to agree its more of a Raul Duke tattoo. and plus, its a picture of Depp. which to me seems like a tribute to Depp and what a great job he did portraying the good Doctor. when i see this tattoo, i dont think of Hunter at all. i think of Fear and Loathing starring Johnny Depp. and it seems that is what most people think and are going to think.

right....but none of that really matters if it's not the opinion of the guy wearing it. You guys don't realize that a "HST" tattoo doesn't even have to have a picture of him in it at all. If it is based on his work, and incorporates elements that relate to him, then it's a tribute to him, and therefor is a "HST" tattoo....sorry if the terminology confuses you....but that happens a lot with people that aren't familiar with a certain industry or practice....

this a a tribute to the film. and all those madly self loving teen drug fiends who relate/identify with a film, which in reality isn't a good representation of hunter as a person or a writer.

For the record, Depp is not playing Hunter S. Thompson but Raul Duke, a character created by Hunter and later used as an alter ego. The tattoo is, clearly, a picture of Dedd. He may be "dressed up" different, but if anything it's a tribute the movie Fear and Loathing, not a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson.

It's a well drawn but ultimately laughable tattoo. It is Johnny Depp. You want a tattoo of the Doc, get one of the Doc. A photo, or even a Ralph Steadman illustration.
