and Lawson! no one seems to rate him, but he was great to watch, spectacular action, very effective, and a terrific bloke. overshadowed by lillee and thommo, but bloody great.
Cricket was good back then. Always something happening, edge of our seats stuff, backs against the wall. These are the reasons people preferred test cricket back then than now.
Whether you are a Kiwi or an Aussie, it was the best era in cricket. The early '80s, nothing comes close. NZ should have won that summmer (1982/83), they had the best team but lost Richard Hadlee to a hamstring injury on the eve of the Finals. Lance Cairns made the Finals memorable though...one monster hit at the SCG in the first Final...and six monster hits at the MCG in the second.
Gower flashing again.....surprise!!!!

He'll also be remembered for having the highest average against the West Indian pace bowlers of the 70s.
Give credit where it is due, Greg was one of the finest batsmen and slip fielders ever.

Sure i guess it was the best ERA, but iw as talking specifically about the Aussie underarm bowl incident. Seriously...
They needed a 6 to TIE off the last bowl and they resorted to that kinda stuff, probably wouldn'ta hit a six anyway.
I love Richard Hadlee =]
