@Richele1528 If so, cut it out. Finning as a positively shitty business from literally any point of view -- cruel, wasteful, dangerous and pointless. It exists because there's a demand for it.

That was amazing! Poor little guys, being cast as the bad guys in so many movies and in our own heads...when in reality people are taking masses of these majestic creatures and slaughtering them for food! Not to say they don't deserve our respect, but they don't deserve our fear either.
i wish more people cared enough to understand this incredibly amazing world and the creatures in it... the ocean is our life source, yet so many fear it, trash it, use it up... sharks (actually elasmobranchs in general) so incredibly fascinating. we know so little about the oceanic creatures, it's a shame how many people go without even trying to learn or understand.
ARRGHH!!! @_@ People are so fucking ... Okay, this video has a nice objective. But, this is a FISH. A FISH. This video looks like it's trying to imply it's 'cuddling'. It's clearly some type of biological response, like the effect trainers have 'hypnotizing' cobras. Please, stop irritating me with romantic BS. This species is not a common 'man eater', but others ARE. I don't care if it wants to tear me in half, killing it for it's fins and throwing the rest away is wrong.
@ebolaoutkast No sharks are man eaters. Some species, because of size and choice of prey might bite people, but we are not on their diet. This might be only a fish and has a response to a stimuli, but how do you explain the fact it's coming in to receive it and then swims away as nothing happened?
Sometime stories are told to make people pause and think and realize that maybe all they thought true about sharks (without any first hand experience) is actually questionable...do no be so cynical.
@czunderwater I'm not going to explain it, that's a job for a scientist. Is that supposed to imply the shark is cuddling or something? Oh so sharks aren't 'man eaters'? Well at least when people die of blood loss they aren't wholly consumed, that should make people feel so much better and 'question what they thought'. It's a stupid video.
If you think the exlanations are a job for a scientist, then you should let the scientists and those who work with sharks comment. I stand by: the Sharks are not man eaters.
It is unfortunate that you need to express your comments using low level language.
That said, this video has been WIDELY distributed in China, the biggest consumer of shark fins, and it's making an impact on young generations, teaching them about protecting the sharks.
@czunderwater Low level language? Get over yourself. So I called it 'stupid', that is what I think. What is so 'unfortunate'? And I don't have the right to express my opinion as well? Do you think the statements made in this video are 'scientific'? Because THAT is what I addressed, whether it helps the sharks in China or not.
I'm a fan of this video, and of sharks in general. But am also wondering if this represents a level of interference with wildlife that we divers normally don't condone.
And, as an aside, am I just cynical or does her exposure suit look... reinforced? ;-)
@MRMinSF The suit is there because by handling food you need to protect yourself should the shark bite in the wrong place. If there was no food involved, then there would be no need for the suit. Protecting the feeder/handler is protecting the sharks by avoiding media frenzy should a bite happen.
The level of interference is minimal as the sharks are the one deciding to come in and be touched. I would like to see anybody trying to reach and touch a shark if the animal would not like to.
It's amazing! I've read about it and I love the way the human and the sharks were interact. I'm never been afraid of sharks and one of my dreams is to dive with the sharks like this woman... I think the Protect The Sharks Foundation does a lot of good work! Thanks for uploading this video and I really hope more people will understand something more about sharks!
the marvelous person that interacts with these misunderstood and mysterious creatures in this video is Cristina Zenato, the Shark Lady that practises the Tonic Immobility with Caribbean Reef shark. She is a shark feeder instructor and an ambassador for shark conservation and awareness...a Great Woman!
Intelligent film. It's time for Steven Spielberg to reverse the damage he's done to sharks. It's time for the Chinese to stop the cruel practice of "shark-finning" to produce "delicacies". Go to "protect-the-sharks" websites, and reward this gentle film with conservationist action!
@kcarve45 A movie to undo the damage caused by "Jaws" sounds like a VERY good idea!
Maybe it could start with a scene like the one Peter Benchley tells, about how a year or so after his novel came out, he was diving in the Caribbean, came around a big head of coral, and was face to face with an immense Great White. He just had time to think, "This is much too poetic a way to die" before it swam away, totally uninterested.
Intelligent film. Time for Steven Spielberg to reverse the damage he's done, and the Chinese to stop shark-finning. for "delicacies". Go to protection of sharks websites and others to reward this gentle film with conservative actions.
The person in the video working with the sharks is actually a woman, not a guy.
And sharks do not get hungry if not fed by humans. These are scavengers, meaning, they feed when extra food is available and then go back to scavenge on other dead or injuried sea life when dead fish does not come from the divers. It is actually a great way of introducing divers and non into the real world of sharks and not the media fabricated one!
I was Mureil's Garden last December when I had 3 Caribbean reef sharks take off after me. Just when they were going for my leg, I reached down with my bare hand to the leader, and gently patted and scratched the shark's head in the same way you would show affection to a dog. All 3 sharks stopped dead in their tracks acting confused. Then they turned away only to make a few lazy passes. It was so awesome!
if u respect their Bodylanguage and the visibility is like in this video ,u can be part of their Underwaterworld. But situation changes very quick if there is food around.Sad but true:regular Sharkfeeding changes their habit and the sharks in this video are all feedet and not hungry in this moment.Yes,they are carefull and calm--wait til bad wheatherconditions dont allow to feed them--and you will see how they are when they are hungry. They are no Toys, respect this wonderfull Predator.
for those of you wondering why he's wearing chain armour they are just keeping him safe just encase he does get attacked though it's unlikely. in other words they are being carefull
You must understand that all large animals are dangerous. A kitten can playfully swat at you with its paw and a tiger can do the same. There may be no more bad intent on the tigers part than the kitten but the result is very different.
those receptor are called Ampullea Of Lorenzini , and nobody really knows if the shark like that done to them, just another way pathetic human try to show off, but why is the diver wearing a mesh suit? What if the shark real hate that done to them. I think we done so much to he shark, finning and all why do we leave them alone....
Sometimes i can`t understand the human behavior ... after all a shark is a predator and we should give this animal the respect that it deserves .. the shark needs our protection... without the shark the ocean will die ...
yes I really agree that less sharks must be killed, but even the diver doesn't trust the sharks because he is wearing armour. And after all this, poeple are afraid of sharks just because they lived expierence... its not for nothing, if you know what I mean..!!

That was absolutely incredible!! Gave me goose bumps, the good kind. :) Shark attacks are thankfully very rare. Sharks are beautiful creatures that have helped keep our oceans in balance for over 400 million years. Scientists have found that shark populations are now crashing around the world largely because tens of millions of sharks are killed by commercial fishing each year. We should be scared for sharks. Healthy Oceans Need Sharks. The Oceans Are The Lungs Of The Earth.
It would inspire more trust if the divers were not in full-on chainmail suits.
