I don't know why so much people hate Near :( He's not a copy from L. 'Kay, there are a bit alike, but, I mean, he lived in an orphanage that was built to raise L's succesor.

The reason I disliked Near was because he knew everything from the beginning. If Kira would do something, then he woul have figured it out in just about a second. L thought well of more possibilities and he wasn't always right about stuff. That's what made L more surprising than Near for me. To me, Near had to have more possibilities to keep the viewer thinking.

(To the level that death gods and insane people can be "uncanny") :P I was shocked at L's death and also really sad. I kinda hate Near for trying to take his place. He seemed almost unworthy! It was only natural that Near would be able to solve things easily from there on out. Lastly you have to remember that Near got alot of his information from Mello.
You know L and N are both very good character, but I think it's the way their presented and introduced that makes I people dislike the.
I mean, it feels like they were added in last minute as an excuse to extend the series after L's death. Had they been introduced properly and earlier like in the DN movie, people would like them way more.

I just want to say that neither Near nor Mello are "L wannabes", Near was created to fill the void that was created when L died. Mello just happens to be intelligent so you can deal with it.
2= Near and Mello got a random tip from a shinigami about the fake rule, while L figured it out himself and that's the reason he got killed.
3= Near and Mello were simply L's backup plan (timer going off to make L's death known)
4= Light would have killed Near from the first time he saw his face if it wasn't for Migami's mistake, while he couldn't kill L even after being with him for months.
Sorry to all but YAGAMI LIGHT is and will always be the best in Death Note , his skills , his unique way of murdering and getting away , his idealistic and smart thinking made him the best character throughout the series :)

Mikami definitely not "hot", but Light, I feel, should have won.

how can people hate near or L for defeating kira. Light was a despicable person. Every time he was with one of those girls that loved him or his father he proved how disgusting of a man he was. I understand wanting justice but to have no qualm about manipulating people's feelings. True, it was the notebook that made him that way. L tests this when he asks light to manipulate misa and the innocent (relinquished) light refuses. So maybe it was just the book that corrupted him.
@fheisk I think that it was the book who made him that way. You have to consider how calm and collective Light was at the begining of the anime and how he began to change as it went on. I personally dont think that Light was evil but he got too carried away with power and started to believe that he was God. All in all, he wasnt evil, he just went insane from the power of the Death Note...
@PeircedinBlood yeah. when he relinquishes it, and is basically a good guy for a bit, he has moral quandries about manipulating people to further the investigation. L keeps pushing him to do so, i think to see whether or not Light is a bad person and get a clue as to whether light is kira or was being "controlled" by kira.
@IceColdClocks I don`t think it`s because people hate Near, it`s probably because alot of people prefer L and his witty, charming, (and also serious) personality. If you compare Near and L, it`s obvious that L is more unique than Near in terms of characteristics, because Near is basically seen as unemotional, cold hearted, and somewhat arrogant. The one thing though that makes Near better than L(in a sense) is his drive to see justice prevail over evil. He accepts facts and nothing else matters.

With a title called "Death Note" you'd think people with know to accept the fact that characters will die in this show and you must move on. Especually after like a 24 episode duel against Light and L. I knew L was on the verge of death the second Light got his memories back. I thought "Farewell L, it was a nice run"
@greencomet2011 Near was 13 years old when he was first introduced, while Mello was 14 years old. Near is 19 years old when the story picks up after it's time skip.
Death Note reminds me of Code Geass. You got a guy who wants to do some kind of "justice" but they take it too far and go insane...lmao. They're both good anime though lol
When I've seen Near for the first time, I was like 'omg, just some wannabe L, what the hell' but I have to admit he's a clever boy and pretty cool. Of course there can't be noone better than L, but N caught Kira and he could caught him because he completely erased his feelings. L considered Light a friend; I think it was the main mistake.

This may be irrelevant but no congrats to Giovanni (Guy who worked with Near) for when he managed to steal the Death Note from Mikami and matched his handwriting to a "T" all in one day? I know he is just seen as 'Near's Tool' but the guy deserves some kind of credit when taking down Kira. Especially when Mikami methodically checked the Death Note almost every day for any signs of forgery. No easy feat there.
@ObsoleteManOne What I don't get is why Mikami did not test it before he went to the warehouse...being as methodical as he was...the ending went against most of the character's presented nature. Also, Light always thought things through "what if I were to lose" he could of had Mikami write everyone's name down except his and Nears(also, maybe some of the people on the task force)...which would bring Near under suspicion. The ending could of concluded better :/

Because he went to the bank and withdrew the notebook; Light specifically told him not to take any unnecessary measures, but he did which lead to Light's down fall...Near found out the notebook he had was a fake thanks to that, and got the real one. Although, I do agree with Light having a god complex.

how can people hate near or L for defeating kira. Light was a despicable person. Every time he was with one of those girls that loved him or his father he proved how disgusting of a man he was. I understand wanting justice but to have no qualm about manipulating people's feelings. True, it was the notebook that made him that way. L tests this when he asks light to manipulate misa and the innocent (relinquished) light refuses. So maybe it was just the book that corrupted him.

@fheisk I think that it was the book who made him that way. You have to consider how calm and collective Light was at the begining of the anime and how he began to change as it went on. I personally dont think that Light was evil but he got too carried away with power and started to believe that he was God. All in all, he wasnt evil, he just went insane from the power of the Death Note...

@PeircedinBlood yeah. when he relinquishes it, and is basically a good guy for a bit, he has moral quandries about manipulating people to further the investigation. L keeps pushing him to do so, i think to see whether or not Light is a bad person and get a clue as to whether light is kira or was being "controlled" by kira.

@IceColdClocks I don`t think it`s because people hate Near, it`s probably because alot of people prefer L and his witty, charming, (and also serious) personality. If you compare Near and L, it`s obvious that L is more unique than Near in terms of characteristics, because Near is basically seen as unemotional, cold hearted, and somewhat arrogant. The one thing though that makes Near better than L(in a sense) is his drive to see justice prevail over evil. He accepts facts and nothing else matters.

With a title called "Death Note" you'd think people with know to accept the fact that characters will die in this show and you must move on. Especually after like a 24 episode duel against Light and L. I knew L was on the verge of death the second Light got his memories back. I thought "Farewell L, it was a nice run"

When I've seen Near for the first time, I was like 'omg, just some wannabe L, what the hell' but I have to admit he's a clever boy and pretty cool. Of course there can't be noone better than L, but N caught Kira and he could caught him because he completely erased his feelings. L considered Light a friend; I think it was the main mistake.
And at least - his theme song rulez XD

This may be irrelevant but no congrats to Giovanni (Guy who worked with Near) for when he managed to steal the Death Note from Mikami and matched his handwriting to a "T" all in one day? I know he is just seen as 'Near's Tool' but the guy deserves some kind of credit when taking down Kira. Especially when Mikami methodically checked the Death Note almost every day for any signs of forgery. No easy feat there.

@ObsoleteManOne What I don't get is why Mikami did not test it before he went to the warehouse...being as methodical as he was...the ending went against most of the character's presented nature. Also, Light always thought things through "what if I were to lose" he could of had Mikami write everyone's name down except his and Nears(also, maybe some of the people on the task force)...which would bring Near under suspicion. The ending could of concluded better :/

But i guess that Obha and Obata wanted Near to win in the end, not that im complaining. Near is my favorite character and his theme kicks ass. But they should of made an alternate ending for the people who wanted Kira to win. Don`t know why they would want that though :/

Ryouk said from the start he was going to write Lights name in the book. =/ I just don't like how they got there/and how they broke away from what made the characters great. It lacked the build up, and suspense. Nothing personal against Near just him and Light weren't equals, where as L and Light were. In theory Light could of easily beaten Near if he thought of him as L...He could of had Mikami hide away some scraps of the death note :/

He even says that Near is below L. So Light, being the over-confident, egotistical (and shall we say ingenious?) , person that he is felt as if his victory was assured,especially since he KNEW what Near was planning from the start. @ObsoleteManOne lol...Mikami could of easily prevented this from happening...1) by testing the death note before he brought it. 2) stashing away scraps of the deathnote, like light did with his watch. 3) by writing down the names of the people he knew prior to the notebook being switched specifying the time of death. He had a whole day :/ (he could of torn out the page and Near would of never known...); Light could of easily forwarded the information... lol this is infuriating!

@runescapeforretards Well yes, there are multiple ways he could of prevented it, and there's even the solution of hiding an Uzi in his pocket or something like that. But the reason he didn't do anything like that, was because of Light's God Complex, believing he can do everything beyond the impossible. Mikami Didn't do anything because he was so faithful in his "god", that he was positive everything would go fine. Basically, ERRYTHANG FAILED COS OF GOD COMPLEX

Because he went to the bank and withdrew the notebook; Light specifically told him not to take any unnecessary measures, but he did which lead to Light's down fall...Near found out the notebook he had was a fake thanks to that, and got the real one. Although, I do agree with Light having a god complex.
