Look, the Japanese use flowery words that Americans have taken to have some sort of hippy meaning, "harmony" is really a technical word. Uesheba was at one time the strongest man in the Japanese army, and when his arm went up in your face you went down, or else! His Dojo was known as "the dojo from hell", by his students. This is why you see film of him seemingly using only "ki". I have seen a "black belt" from the hombu dojo style get his harmony "kicked" by a moron with an attitude!
UMMMMM. How are people supposed to know their shit works if they dont try it out? Imagine karate with NO sparring. You need to practice with 100% resistance to avoid a wtf situation on the street.
Yup. This is real aikido where the other guy is doing all he can not to get thrown... but it still works. We have gotten so used to aikido where Uke (the attacker) co-operates so much that he joyfully leaps into the techniques to be thrown. That's why there is such a difference!
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the soft way is a sham. But sometimes it is certainly too unrealistic.
I'd like to have conversation with you, but in order to save me from boring myself to death-by-retyping/rekeying, would you be kind enough to read my comments posted under the great video titled: Tetsuro Nariyama Sensei (8th Dan Tomiki Aikido)? I hate this 500 limit! We are close in age & might talk as equals.

That is why most people think aikido is gay. Too much hippie stuff, not enough heads bouncing off the ground.
