  • Fellowes Neutron Proton or Electron are the best cutters you can buy for under $50. Nothing else will compare.

  • @Sajrty88 Thanks

  • Hi Doreen, I laughed because we've had the same path in Trimmers. I like Tonic Guillotine in the end, Self sharpening and I have a 12" and 8.5". Check out Amazon for price comparison. In the long run when you don't need blades it is cheaper.

  • @chrisnkitties I'll have to keep this one in mine if the Fiskars doesn't work for me. TFW

  • Thank you soo much for this video. At least I now know some of the ones that I don't want

I have and old fiskers and a newer one. My biggest problem with the trimmers is accuracy. I have a very hard time getting, especially if I want to layer paper for cards, the cuts to be accurate. Learning where to put my paper on what part of the line is a problem. Do I leave the line showing? do I cover the line. I never seem to get the same cut twice.

    Thank you again.

  • @charsbabushka You are quite welcome. I have been using my Fiskars Premium since I recorded this video and I've changed the blade once. When matting my cards or doing any cutting using the paper trimmer I put the paper right on the line and that seems to work for me.

  • This video was very helpfull but i have to disagree witht the last fiskars trimmer... I went through two of those plus 2 packs of replacement blades and i had little fluffy things on the adge of oaper every time, even on my lightest patterened paper! I also tried the martha stewart cutter which really stinks, but her circle cutter is great! Anywho, ive gone back to my original office max guillotine cutter, it works better than either of those! Im going to give a rotart cutter a try because ive

  • @26fishies Thanks for the comment. I guess everyone gets different results for their trimmers. I have had the last one Fiskars Premimum trimmer for the past 10 months and have had no problems. The cutting has been great. Have not experience the fluffy pieces on the edge. I know someone who uses the trimmer as well and she did have that problem, but it she just changed the blade and it is still working great for her. Good luck with what you're using. I say if it works keep using it. TFW

  • As Seen on TV - Craft-Lite Cutter - with Light I like this trimmer because of the different blades available to make the cutting edges fancy. I also have several fiskar trimmers, and one or two others as well. I do however like the type of trimmer that allows me a different edge cut rather than the same old straight cut all the time.

  • @Zopacha Thanks for the info. I've been using the Fiskars Premimum trimmer for about a year now and I love it. Now if I could only find a good glue gun :-(

    TFW

  • Oh I also forgot. The Cutterpede comes in two size. The15 inches (which I have) and the Cutterpede Mini of 10 inches (I think) that has the elbow at 5 inches.

  • I have the Cutterpede EK Success. The Pros. Not too bulky, with extendable arm (which also bends at 6 inches). Rotary blade . Ruler lines are pretty visibles.Other blade types are available. The cons. Has a cutting mat under the blade so if used up you have to buy another but you get 4 uses by turning it around. Mine is starting to give a crooked cut, but I've had the blade for 6 years. Ruler is in plastic, so there might also be a slight wear. 20$ at Walmart. They also carry blades and mat.

  • @alathenasidericus Thanks for the info on the Cutterpede and TFW

  • Thanks for sharing this video. I am also looking for a new trimmer.

  • @Rosalbafe Your welcome. TFW

  • Aww, Doreen... Your vid was informative and funny as well, as I chuckled several times at the Too Big/Too Small Goldilocks references :)

I started one year ago w/an exacto guillotine-type from wal mart. I gave it to a friend and opted for the provocraft one. I loved the size and in a busy first year I changed the blade twice, which I thought wasn't too bad (esp since I got the trimmer and blades at 40%discount)... But it's recently been cutting at a slight angle. I realized at first that I

  • Hi Valerie glad to see I'm not the only one who has done damage to their cutters. I'm loving the Premium Fiskars so far I haven't had to change the blade but once since I got it. I gave up trying to see the numbers with the others. Never thought to use a sharpie to darken the lines. Thanks for the tip in case I have to go back to one of them.

    Hugs

    Doreen

  • I also got the Premium ROATARY (with the smaller roller blade) and I LOVE that one...I use this the most...fold in half...cuts beautifully...so I tend to use this one the most for now. I have three daughters and they are 13, 9, and 4 so at some point they will be using my "old" ones and if they mess them up...it won't be a big deal.

    Blessing to you Doreen!!!

    Sorry it was so long...

    Valerie Martin

  • use it that ofter...I did keep the broken one just in case I need to use it for PARTS!!!

I LOVE the last trimmer you showed but I some how nicked the wire and my blade keeps getting "snagged" on the wire. I contacted CS and they replaced it for me TWICE...now I am on my 3rd and I am afraid to use it and ruin this one as well. I just heard that they have come out with a new type of replacement blade for it...it is made out of Titanium and will stay much sharper and much longer.

  • Hi Doreen!!!

I have all the trimmers you have as well!!! I liked the Provo Craft one but the #'s were to hard to see...I got a fine tip sharpie and outlined ALL the recesses marking...MUCH BETTER...I use it now for thicker cut and just trimming down...not so much for precession...I LOVE my Tonic TOO but my plastic track broke off when my husband dropped it...I got another on and so far so good...I also used the fine tip Sharpie to trace the recessed markings...I am afraid to break it so I don't

  • Isn't amazing how we would crumble if we didn't have our paper cutters/scorers? It is an essential tool in my arsenal. Couldn't be without it. I use my original fiskar's (non rotary) and it has been tried and true for me. It has simple blades that are easy to change, both the cutter and scorer, a swing out arm which is necessary. And it's not too big. I bought a fiskar's rotary trimmer later on, and find it too big the rotary blade is a hassle to change. So will use my antique one and stay happy

  • @DeeGee1952 I have been using the fiskars premium since I made this video and have had to chance the blade once and that was just a few days ago.

  • @do4x4 I think that I will try that one for sure. thanks for the info :0)

  • hi use the cricut

  • @TheJazz1022 I have been using the fiskars premimum since I made this video and I have to say i like it the best so far. It cuts very well and I've only had to chance the blade once .

  • Hey i also found many of the same problems the line where the blade sits under the paper being cut is what keeps getting worn i cleaned mine several time s but they are however plastic so u know we need to find something great we dont have to keep replacing LOL

  • @jonnymommy1 The fiskars one has been working for me so far. I've been using it since I made this video and I've change the blade once and it's been working since I changed the blade which wasn't happening in previous trimmers. So I'm happy for right now.

  • You remind me of me! I have every kind of cutter I swear!! I just ruined my Memory Makers one which up until now, I had loved. I cut some grunge paper...a no no I'm guessing now!! Fortunately, I did get it 50% off too since it was like $70 originally I think....but you're not supposed to have to replace the blade ever. It's such a big deal too. If you don't have a good cutter, it just makes everything more difficult!!!

  • @kathydid47 I agree with you definitely. If you don't have a good cutter it does make things difficult. Thanks for the warning about cutting the grunge paper. I'll probably use the big Fiskar rotary cutter to cut grunge paper. I have been using the brand new one I brought in this video all through my Christmas Cards with the Cricut series and the blade is still sharp. So... I guess we'll see how it goes.

  • Hi again...

One more you didn't mention that I am looking into too...

The MARTHA STEWART PAPER CUTTER...all her products are such good quality...did you hear anything about this one...

  • @KINDERKRAFTS I was going to get the Martha Stewart, but I ended up with another Fiskars which is the last one I purchased in my video. I have been using this one for the last month and I used it to make all the Christmas cards I made for my Christmas with the Cricut series on Youtube. After making all those cards the blade on the Fiskars is still just as sharp and is not cutting jagged. So, I'm going to stick with this one for now and see how it goes.

  • Hi again...

You are wayyyyyyyyy too funny...lol...lol...I could not believe it ~~ you have my trimmers...lol...lol...except I don't have the fiskars one you showed last ~~ YET...lol...lol...and the green provo craft one I have is the CRICUT one...which is now cutting jagged and the very end corner of the cut paper is alway a bit off...so this is for the garbage now...

I also have a HUGE purple cow trimmer that I think I used once...I is now on top of one of my cupboards in my craft room

  • continued...

    that I can not reach...

I saw a vid on the Precision Paper Trimmer Making Memories 12x12 ~ way too complicated for me and it only cuts paper and I cut a lot of card stock and chipboard ~ and it has plastic pieces that break easily (can be replaced easily too) and the cutter blade needs to be adjusted...nope ~~ not for me...but I do like the folded 12x12 option on the cutter though...

I think why we get jagged edges is not because of the blades...

  • continued # 3

it is because of the slider cutting well that the blade slides up and down on...it gets worn out and we don't get straight edges anymore...that is what happened with my CRICUT one...either I will throw it away or use it just for chipboard ~~ yes I do cut light weight to medium weight chipboard on the CRICUT paper trimmer...I just use a separate cutting blade...and it cuts it perfectly...only I probably ruined the paper trimmer...so now I am researching a new one to buy...

  • continued @ 4

Please let me know how you like the premium fiskars one...that is the new one I am looking at...I only wish they would have a 15 inch ruler on the bottom too ~ so that larger paper lines up perfectly...I always have trouble with the extended ruler on top ~ I can not get the bottom of the paper lined up perfectly...

Thank you so much for doing this...

And thank you for getting my hooked on Kathy...she is such a cutie ~~ I laugh almost all the way thru her ustream vid...

  • continued # 5

You are probably soooooooooo bored reading all this so thank you again so much...

Hope you are having a fun holiday season...

    Have a HAPPY NEW YEARS...

    Have a fun winter evening...

    Surie

  • I have the Fiskars that you showed at the end and I loooove it!! It has a large surface area but it's light weight. Gives a good clean cut and you can see exactly where it's going to cut. The lines are dark and go all the way down, but won't rub off because the lines are under plastic...just love everything about it, and this is my 5th trimmer in a year. I had a hard time finding the perfect trimmer. So far, the new Fiskars one is pretty dern close. I also got the newer style rotary trimmer

  • @tatteredrose0610 thanks for commenting. So far I've been using the last one I brought which is the Fiskars and it's working pretty well. I'm about to start making a ton of Christmas cards so I will be really put it to the test.

  • Thanks ygsmith35 for commenting. I do have the guillotine type which someone recently gave me after I made this video. Works great for cutting chipboard and large amounts of paper.

  • I have the old time guillotine cutter. My DH get it for me yrs ago and sharpen the blade and I use it for paper and chipbd. I started out with Fiskars a 12 in and a 6 in like the little one you have. Then I went on a RV trip and took some of my craft supplies and forgot to bring my trimmer so I have to go buy one to use the crafts. I found a coupon and I got a MS trimmer I still use it occasionally, I like it. I started to get the 3 rd one that you got but I'll stick with what I have.

  • You're welcome ! Look for the "X Cut" brand. They have a pink and grey one, and it's only 6 in wide! Right after I commented earlier I started doing my research because as I mentioned I want a new cutting system, and I found this one. I love it! The only thing is: It's a European brand so the measurement is the metric system. That's ok with me though. It's pink and I got to have it now! LOL. Good luck with finding the perfect cutting system.

  • thanks for commenting luveverywon. I have a guillotine style that someone gave me right after I made this video. It is pretty big and heavy. It works great for cutting large amounts of paper and chipboard.

  • Currently, I use the PC trimmer similar to the first one you showed. I also own a Fiskars brand guillotine-styled trimmer that I use to cut small pieces that are no more than 6 in, in length and 4 in. in width. I like the guillotine style but I'm looking to invest in one that can cut 12 in. paper but is compact too. Try this style, you may like it!

  • Thanks for commenting Corrie. I went and check out the reviews on Amazon for this trimmer and there were some very mixed reviews. Some people had trouble with it and when calling customer service didn't get help. Others loved it. I think I'm going to give this one a try. I'm adding it to my wish list for the holidays. Hopefully I will get it.

  • i have the same trimmer as LifeontheScrappySide after trying many trimmers....I love my making memories cutter....it has a self sharping blade so you will never have to buy a blade again..I have had mine for at least 3 years...then the lines on it started to come off....so i wrote to them and they sent me a new one free of charge...i didn't even have to pay shippping charges or send the old one back.....I love it and would recommend it

  • Thanks for commenting. I too found the same thing with my other trimmers having a little play in them. The Tonic one was the best one I had, if I could just quite dropping them. They weren't built very sturdy. My husband dropped the new Fiskars one the first night I got it but it seems to be o.k. for now anyway. I'm going to check out the one you recommended. Hopefully I can find a good deal on one. As you know I'm all about the deals.

  • I like you own to many trimmers lol Most of the same ones you have including the new one you just purchased. However I purchased one a few weeks ago that I wish I had purchased first. It is by making memories you can use it as a 12x6 or 12x12. It does a perfect cut every time. All of my other trimmers have play in them which made my papers uneven. You can find it on etsy for a good price. Precision Paper Trimmer Making Memories 12x12
