hi. im a quadrapalegic. there's a cure waiting for me, but the moral and kind christians of the world believe that cells in a petri dish deserve more than i do. i mean, they are right. afterall, they ARE cells in a petri dish. they deserve protection. its ok that i cant use my arms or legs. what's important is that those petri dishes be protected. i love christians. they are such good people. so moral too. i always smile at them in my wheel chair. thank you christians.

If "morals" are important to people, why don't people give a shit when we do this to animals? Medical testing on monkeys, cats, animal embryos..... its the same. I would rather take stem cells out of human embryos, there's a billion of us but only thousands of animals. Have you ever heard about adult stem cells ? Stem cells aren't exclusively produced from human embryos.

Adult stem cell research so far has shown greater potential so far than embryonic stem cell at least in the field of medical research as far as I know..

And guess what? ASC research apparently doesn't violate the moral guidelines of a 2000 year old book filled with fairy tales , that encourages polygamy , sexism , genocide etc.

So its a win-win situation for us all.

@mynameszz About it's effectivness you, sir , are incorrect. Embryonic stem cells are much more capable because it can specialize itself to any type of a cell. ASC can only form in to few types of cells, depending on which part of the body it is found. Humans need to stop acting childish, read a little, and don't look towards their feelings about this research. Don't they care how many lives can be saved by this project?

Personally, I don't care whether we use ESCs or ASCs for medical treatment. But I do know that ESCs are only THEORETICALLY better than adult stem cells (as they can differentiate into a wider variety of

cells than ASCs) and so far , in terms of practical applications , ASCs have shown greater promise than ESCs. Not to mention that ASCs also carry the risk of accidentally inducing cancer.

@mynameszz Yes that is correct. May be a major issue with cancer cells, but if we want to wipe this problem away we can't stop progress of this research.

The good thing with stem cells (esspecially ASCs) is an ability to turn it to almost embryonic state (although it may be possible with every type of a cell in near future), though it's still in research phase.

P.S. I really hope this stupid moral debate about SCR wil soon end.

Last thing adult stem cells do not have as limited capabilites as people think. And by the cord blood is adult stem cells. You can also look up Dr. Prentice's power point it gives several examples of what they are using adult stem cells for. Examples: Juvenile diabetes, Parkinsons disease, regenerative repair in the heart after heart attacks...

I recommend that anyone who is interested look up the lecture by Dr. David Prentice. It's a three part lecture on adult stem cell research. I am against embryonic research because it is destroying a human life. IVF I feel should be limited to fertlizing one egg at a time and then using it immediately. Instead of banking cryogenically frozen the embryo's. Little fact in Germany there are only 72 frozen embryos versus here approximately 40,000.

3rd when you use embryonic stem cells on a spinal cord patient it has to be a recent injury not form an injury from years ago. However with adult stem cells it doesnt matter how old the injury is they a can still use the adult stem cells. People keep focusing on embryonic stem cell research because that is what they hear int he media. While the use of adult stem cells use has been going on for years! Example: bone marrow transplants.

After reading everyones comments I believe several of you really need to study into stem cell research futher before posting your commments. First of all embryonic stem cells have never been used on a human until several months ago. They are stil waiting to see if this spinal cord injuried patient will have tumors like in the lab rat and mice tests or not. 2nd scientist have a hard time controling the growth of embryonic stem cells because they have a hight rate of mutating.

So, after reading the majority of the comments on a few of these videos about embryonic stem cell research, I have concluded that A. The majority of the people who are against it, are so because of their "religion" and usually have no facts to back up why it is "wrong". B. The majority of the people against it are because of religion and DO have facts to back it up <---I respect B, they have actual facts. C. The majority of the people here are just followers and have no knowledge what so ever.

The thing that people are missing is that in order to benefit from ES cells you wouldn't be taking a life from a helpless unborn child. You would be reaping the benefits from the cells that were just going to sit in a pitri dish. Only IVF cells within 14 days of fertilization can be used. If the intent for life was there then they wouldn't have been donated to science in the first place. Aborted fetuses cant be used THAT INFO IS FALSE!
