A rigged election is a rigged election. Some are more violent that others for sure. but NONE are democratic. I commend your interest in Bangladesh, but you shouldn't discount the fact that lack of political transparency is one of the reasons there is so much poverty in Bangladesh.
Remember Florida? Claims of Diebold voting irregularities in the 2000 US election?
No country is perfect. And claims of corruption and imperfect elections are simply scapegoats some use to ignore the fact we can end global poverty in our lifetime.
You're totally entitled to your opinion. But you need only watch the elections in Iran, Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe to realize that Bangladesh is light years ahead in terms of democratic elections.
You know what bro i am a Bengali from the uk and i think you you are doing a wonderfull job, will definately read this book of Dr.sachs, hopefully inshallah there will be more passionate people like you to follow. ameen
hey raju88, one of the things I like about Dr. Sachs is that he tries to transcend any one particular viewpoint. For example, he said in the speech I saw that he's not a free-market economist. "Are we trying to prove a theory, or are we trying to save live?" he asked. That is one of the many things that sold me to his message.
Congratulations Shawn, you are doing a terrific job, brilliant, no i dont have words to describe. You cant possibly even know yourself how much this means. So much, I myself wish to follow your path, my age is the main obstacle for the time being (im 14) however the work you have done is so great, wonderful. I am currently working to get every youtuber in my yr level at school (thats about 100 people) to subscribe, comment, rate and further spread the word for you.
Hey Odium, it's comments like your that amaze me at the power of the internet. Here I am in my room in Dhaka and my work is touching you and your classmates in Australia. :-)
Oh and I only said that because of the American flag in the video. It kind of looked like an insult the way I typed it, but I live in Florida, so I'm not insulting Americans, obviously. =]
You should not care about these issues (w00t?) before you can get your insanely fucked up politics straight. Two proved rigged elections, and now only two candidates gets any media attention. Nor of those two is good enough to rule (yes, "RULE", not "lead" as it should be) the worlds (read: EARTHS) most influensial country.
But the best outcome is if you can focus on both issues, of course.
Hey man, I would love to come there and help you out in anyway possible. I too will be a recent graduate in Biomedical Engineering. I'm also planning on taking a couple of years off before I pursue my graduate degree. I've been to India on many occasions but never to Bangladesh. I would love to visit the area! Let me know if I could be of any assistance whatsoever!!
So ending poverty is possible.I can't imagine what it'd be like if I had no house,no clean water,no bathroom!,no school,no car,no computer,no tv(although it's disconnected), no money!!We,including myself, are so focused on making so much of it to sustain ourselves in middle America and in our capitalist economy but we aren't even aware of those who don't have even their basic needs!Perhaps all of the largest companies should plege what we put in the economy(our consumerism) to fellow countries.
i am only 13 but i don't let any of the food in my house go to waste if it is good people eat it if it is old meat the dog or cats get it if it is bread or vegetables the chickens get it i would love to do something like this but am not allowed (probly)and would have no clue where to start
I'm trying to raise awareness and videos that are well rated often get more exposure.
Anyone who does aid work knows that its easier to do so without lugging a camera around. The reason I am filming all this is because I want to inspire as many people I can.
Thank you for doing what most people are afraid to do... leaving the Western "comforts of home" and helping those who have no idea of that concept. Ignorance is not bliss, it's selfishness!
YouTube is an excellent medium to use. Its a little bit unfortunate that your channel concept is so unique, but who knows, maybe other members of the youtube community might be inspired to do the same...
Have you gotten featured on the YouTube Canadian page? That would be great exposure.
This is a fantastic idea! I look forward to your future videos and I hope you manage to reach I really wide audience with this. We could all do with learning more about the worlds poorest nations, and you've found a really great way to do that. Thanks :)
"Hope is always available to us. When we feel defeated, we need only take a deep breath and say, "Yes," and hope will reappear."
Shawn, it is both my deepest wish and hope that people who watch this, and your other videos make the highly personal commitment to say YES to addressing the issue of World hunger, health and Poverty.
a great snap of worlds reality! a video that speak through directly into my heart!
