Does anybody know how great this film is? Difficult to understand Pomme's mistery (or should I say Beatrice?). To some people, Pomme is "shy". To others, Pomme is "drippy". To others, "fat".
My apologizes to anyone who find my comments agressive or disagree, but the union of a silent character and a sweet face actually makes me think life is worthwile.
Love Isabelle, but I didn't find THE LACEMAKER all that brilliant. The story: a drippy boy and drippy girl get together and drip on each other. The boy rejects the girl, proving himself to be a bigger drip than she is, and she goes away to a sanatorium for fragile drips.
i read the book. you didn't understand the point. Pomme represents any simply girl you could meet in the streets but she is unaware of her uniqueness and of her qualities.
despite what you may think, Pomme is a very interesting character because she remains a mystery till the end. Each time you think you know her she fades away and becomes a complete stranger. I didn't watch the movie but i guess it was difficult to make because in the book, she speaks very little and you rarely have a glimpse of her thoughts...this story is really one of a kind...and it's message is deeper than what you may think
the story itself is not really about her friendship with marylene or her love episode but it's about who Pomme really is...it's about finding that she is like nobody and yet like so many among us!
Rosamorrable, I didn't even know there was a book until you told me so. I reacted only to the movie, and I stand by my reaction. The movie is inoffensive, but hardly compelling. Maybe the book is a masterpiece. I don't know. But thank you for your comments!
Here began my romance with her. My favorite of all. Yesterday, today and forever! From Argentina, with all my love for your art, eternal Isabelle

the only problem is that Pomme is overweight and not as slim as this actress...

It was, indeed, a tragic and haunting film.
And to see this little video, wow, it brings it right back.
