@whythewar1 Yes, Babi Yar was a ravine in the north of Kiev where around 200,000 jews, Russian pow's, Ukranians, were murdered by the SS Death Squads (Einsatzkommando?). But I bet a lot of people do not know about it. I read a book about it by A. Anatoli, hence the reason I know about the horrific massacre.
MANDORLA after Paul Celan In mandorla , where Nothing reigns, What stands in mandorla? Two almond-shaped eyes, Royal blue. And in eyes, what stands in these eyes? A tear, a tear with dead shine inside. And this shine, what reflects this shine? The sky, the sky full of ashes and soot. Black, charred almonds, Empty, almond-shaped eyes What stands in mandorla? A royal tear, which it isn` t there
MANDORLA po P. Celanu V mandorli, kjer Nič kraljuje, kaj stoji v mandorli? Dvoje mandljastih oči, kraljevsko modrih. In v očeh, kaj stoji v teh očeh? Solza, solza in v njej mrtvi lesk. In ta lesk, kaj ta lesk odseva?
Too bad... The music is wonderful but the interpretation is preposterous!!!! The best still remains Bernard Haitink and Rudolf Barshai's recordings!!!!
Another strike: this performance used Jevtushjénko's own expurgation/revision of "Bábiy Jar", which Shostakóvich disliked.

I agree about Haitink. Haven't heard Barshai, though.
