A soldier is asked to infiltrate this terrorists cell, being embeded because Makerov needed an extra hired gun. WIthout the soldier, there would be no Russian vs. US plot. No you are playing a CIA agent infiltrating a Terroist organization led by Makarov to bring them down and having to work with him to gain his trust, you are killed because he knew who you were from the very beginning and it is because of this mission... the rest of the plot moves into motion the Invasion of DC, Task 141 trying to discover the truth and so forth. Now there is a proper warning before the mission that lets you skip this mission too, that if you choose to procede then that is on you
