  • :D insanity!

  • I was on a plane that had a crosswind landing at Ontario Ca. I had a window seat and wondered why we were landing sideways. I think the passengers were clueless or in shock when we walked off.No one said anything.

  • goood

  • come on. y cant we see the last plane land the whole time it was there?

  • qual que eh o nome dessa musica?

  • otimo!!!

  • Nothing beats watching planes land to crappy eurotechno.

  • they turn the nose of the plane towards the wind

  • Why are these airplanes flying sideways?

  • because they are getting crosswind they have to return where they get wind from, otherwise they will miss the runway (the centerline)

  • yes but the new A340-600 is longer in length than the A380 and i thing the wings span to but not sure about wings =D

  • a 380 --sure

  • It is an A380 the A340 isn't that fat^^

  • Nice try but thats a boeing 777, then a beoing 747. The very last plane is the only airbus (a340)

  • A380* (not A340)

  • what airport are most of these videos from?

  • isnt that a testin facilty of boeing in texas'?

  • I know that the A380 was tested on Keflavik airport on Iceland.

  • thats gotta be tough on the landing gear

  • bravo bravo, fantastic, very god, gran pilot, grand video, hello from mexico

  • oh my god that is brilliant!!!! come in at an angle, land on your rear wheels and rotate... I don't know why I never considered the possibility!

  • very bad sound... i hate copies of other videos

  • I lived one-quarter mile SOUTH of the main runway in San Antonio TX where B-52s were refurbished and flown back into service. (1966) It is a miracle of engineering that these behemoths could take off in 30◦ quartering winds -- port or starboard -- by swiveling the dollies of the landing-gear to the direction of the runway while the entire bomber was facing INTO the winds !! Maximum correction is 30◦, but the plane frequently turned 15◦ more in the wind after rotation and gear-up.

  • Who's the music artist and Song name?

  • The starting melody is from some rock band, don't know if sonata artica...

You can listen to this very beginning in a video of those houses with many lights, which lit according to the song they play.

  • aat 0:50, that was a great touch down!

  • The first 2 777's are landing in Roswell, NM. The 3rd is landing (i think) @ Edwards AFB. The 747 you see there is landing in Great Falls, MT. The A380 is probably landing in Keflavik Island.

  • Comment removed

  • let me correct something..... it is Keflavik, Iceland

  • Push The Feeling On 2003, Artist: Nightcrawlers

  • The music please ! :D

    Great video !

  • wat song is that

  • If you look at the livery, none of them are owned by airlines they all say airbus or Boeing on the side. Maybe its a test Strip?

  • Comment removed

  • The landing gear doesn't rotate to stay in line with the runway on most jets does it? The B-52 is the only one I've heard of that does that. That sucker can land literally sideways.

  • I think a few airliners do it, perhaps only a few Boeings though.

Seem to recall reading something like that on wiki.

  • 747SP does aswell.

  • this is like the best song for this video, u dumass

  • Nice video, but I don't get the point of the faggy music with it? This gay song quite spoiled my watching pleasure...

  • I think sometimes a pilot could have luck on these things.

A good pilot may not have such luck and be considered a bad pilot.

    just like politics

  • The difference is in politics the politician gets to choose his policies, so smart people still know who the good politician is.

  • I used to think airline pilots made pretty good money. Now, I'm not so sure they're paid enough.

  • at 26:00sec his wings are almost perpendicular with the strip! so hot

  • valeu!!!!!!!!

  • Looks pretty easy!

  • thats what you think. i don't think thats even possible.

  • the first plane looks like it's landing next to Muriel's house in nowhere

  • are u talkin about courage the cowardly dog ? cos if so - hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • { dude its hard

  • Damn, skillful pilots! Great work, I a Captain for the UAE Airlines, I fly 747's, and I can tell you all now, that Lisbon, Portugal is the worst EVER airport when it comes to crosswinds! I always get a horrible feeling when I get the flights to Lisbon, the whether there is always so unpredictable! Anyway, again, great work to these pilots!

  • I used to date a pilot from a Virgin Atlantic 747.... just 1 month before 9/11 I was in cockpit for the whole flight LHR YYZ...totally awesome experience... as we taxing at YYZ, all 3 pilots were critizing other planes that were landing.... their comments were so hilarious....

  • No auto polit can make a landing

  • SpeedKlz - The crosswind landing is probably the only landing the on board computer CAN'T do, the autopilot/autoland function has no control of the aircraft rudder at anytime. The crosswind landing is all down to skill and training. It's why pilots get paid a lot.

Think before you post - Dumbass!

  • no auto-pilot can land even in normal conditions...

  • the are airports that the planes can land on good conditions automaticaly. But its imposible to landing with bad conditions

  • see on any airport...landings are all down to pilot...airports only have landing aids...which help pilots with glideslope n centerline of runway not with landing with skill...or landing automatically...

  • them pilots are fuckin heroes.

  • bien ! chapeau pour les pilotes ,mais la musique d'Enigma convient mieux

  • Both the video and the song are awesome! The skill of these pilots has to be appreciated.

  • Cheers fella....

  • hand me the barf bag please lol

  • This is a routine landing in Calafate, Argentina. Winds coming off a lake blow steadily across flat lands of Patagonia. Probably the pilot had done this many times....but we hadn't!

  • großes kompliment an die piloten, die bei so einem wind die maschine heil runterbringen....

  • whats the name of the song ?

  • push the feeling on 2003 by nightcrawlers

  • WoW!!! Thats sum skillz!

  • There getting all crossed up! Good Video.

  • Ohh airbus 380

  • wow.

The 777 pilot did a great job of keeping the aircraft's bank steady during approach. Not an easy thing to do with unpredictable winds

  • I think the term you are looking for may be, forward slip

  • You are correct.

A forward-slip is useful when a pilot has set up for a landing approach with excessive altitude. The forward slip will allow the aircraft track to be maintained while steepening the descent without adding excessive airspeed. Since the heading is not aligned with the runway, the slip must be removed before touchdown to avoid excessive side loading on the landing gear, and if a cross wind is present an appropriate side slip may be necessary at touchdown.

  • It is called 'slipstreaming' and it is commonly used by jumbo jet pilots to rapidly burn off airspeed as they approach the landing strip. If you're coming in too fast, you can pull the nose up - but then you'd climb and overshoot the runway. This is why all of the jumbo jets wheels turn to line up with the runway. SO, there isn't necessarily a crosswind, although the technique can be used to counter one.

  • @ xKevinIsWatchingYoux

Like the details mention, these are certification tests, i.e. these types are tested to see the limits under which a crosswind landing is safe.

Crosswind landing=a landing in which there is a significant wind component, vertical to the direction of the runway

  • Ohh I get it.

  • i believe perpendicular is the word you are looking for....

  • What Exactly are they doing?

  • They´re testing these planes under crosswind situations.

  • Now I get it :)

  • what the fuck is that shitty music?

  • Awesome video, and the music too, BTW whats the song?

  • Nightcrawlers-Push The Feeling On 2003

  • I landed at Heathrow like this once on a much smaller plane. I was shitting myself!

  • That flying was amazing!

  • whats the title of the song??

  • Nightcrawlers-Push The Feeling On 2003

  • wtf and the wheels dont break how ?

  • Amazing vid. Excellent flying!

  • Someone know what is the song ?

Thanks a lot for the video

  • Nightcrawlers-Push The Feeling On 2003

  • Thanks a lot !

  • nice song XD

  • if i was on the airplane i will shit my self lol

  • must take nerves of steel and a lot of skill to do that!

  • Got that right. My father was a pricipal Engineer at Boeing. Some of the test fils he showed me were amazing. Crazy test pilots. The slow speed takeoffs were the most extreme. Sparks everywhere.

  • I saw two F-4 Phantoms with both mains tore up on one side from x-winds at George AFB in the '90's. The next aircrew asked if they were going to be changed. The crewchief said "no sir, they're still within limits. Have a nice flight."

  • The wheels are aligned with the direction of the plane, not where the nose is going. Coupled controls.

  • B-52 was first Plane to have that?

  • yeah, i noticed the same thing. the first couple clips have the wheels at harsh angles.

  • the wheels seem to be turned in preparation for the landing? are they/can they actually do this or is it me seeing things?

  • Ice cold skill

  • perfect!!!!

  • Fukn hell, nice work whoever teh pilots are lol.

  • FUCK YO CROSSWIND!

  • cool!

  • that's a crazy

  • when i fly in 2 weeks, im calling these guys to fly me.

  • wow thats skill ^_^

  • i love these landings..these pilots are pros...no wobblin around or anything! btw...anyone know the title of the song? lol

  • reply to self: it is an Abercrombie and Fitch fashion show version of Push the Feelin' On by Nightcrawlers

  • beutiful driver like birdwatching and wind throgh fethers. to be happy for all and best wishes to good driver who is happy . no bad drive and every wish in life xx

  • Most probably these guys are Airforce Pilots.

  • sorry, i watched it again... it was a sideslip

  • Almost an everyday experience on the Aberdeen to Sumburgh run, nothing unusual you get used to it.

  • good compilation,,,those planes are like drifting cars..those pilots might be proud of them being able to do this

  • MAN!! Those pilots are so pro. !!!

  • These are test pilots, of course they are pro...

  • all these things are mainly automated. No human can do things like that without computers. Its impossible.

  • It means they are paid big bucks for doing what other pilots do for less pay. Come fly at Wellington New Zealand and I'll show you crosswinds.

  • If I were on a plane that did this I'd have to wear an adult diaper!

  • lol. no kidding

  • Lols

  • Cant beat a good Crosswind landing......love watching them :)

Sure could appreciate some members :)

  • it*

  • Is there a super tiny paracute coming off the tail fin at :52 through :55?? hahaha

  • it´s a test flight,so its probably a measuring device.

  • music is so nice

  • i think its clever how the spoilers deploy as soon as the plane hits the ground...

  • lol... and why? :P haha all planes do ir

  • Aircraft testing..shows how strong the undercarriage is! Also reflects how aircraft are rigourously tested before actually being put into service. Reassuring for those who are scared on landings!;)

  • Nice footage, very nice, I like

  • LOL THATS CRAZY

  • What kind of plane was the last one?

  • it's an airbus A380, the new double decker

  • A380

  • ummmm........... scary

  • peepeevagi,js dun push d left rudder,js release d ryt rudder,

  • Hi, great video...but anyone knows the title of the song ?

    thank you for the help!

  • Nightcrawlers - Push the Feeling On 2003

  • The song is push the feeling on by the nightcrawlers but I've never heard that mix of it before. Try htfr dot com

  • arent most of these dawgs who test pilot ol' military gunners who were like the top notch flyers?

  • the pilot has his pants filled up :-) but very very cool in head

  • 1st one is amazing. Skilled pilots

  • what the pilots are doing, is putting in a Wind Correction Angle, commonly referred to as a crab. In light single engine airplanes, we get the luxury of touching down in a slip, to maintain the centerline of the runway, now with the BIG Airplanes, they arent able to slip cause it would result in one of the engines scraping, or in severe cases striking the ground.

  • Do they do it just with the rudder? Are they coming in straight but facing the wrong way or are they coming in at an angle to compensate? Amazing

  • 1. Setting a Wind Correction angle, (No Rudder) Just setting a proper heading that allows the wind to keep the airplane directed towards the runway. Knows as a Crab ( looks like a crab walking)

  • 2. At the last moment the Pilots are using Rudder. They apply the rudder to line up Longitudinal Axis of the Airplane with the center of the runway so there is no imposed side load on the landing gear

    3. Once they are on the ground using the rudder as required to keep airplane aligned with the centerline as well as getting the weight of the airplanes on the wheels, by spoiling the lift going across the wings. (Spoilers deploy as soon as main wheels touch the ground, watch closely)

  • also known as auto spoilers.

  • Yes you use rudder to point into the wind. As you reach the flare you have to kick the rudder to point the aircraft to the runway. It's a difficult thing to master.

  • these guys are 'crabbing'.... the rudder is not used until the flare combined with opposite aileron to keep the aircraft level. the plane faces into the wind automatically similar to a stationary boat.

  • this could only be said by someone who has never flown. Rudder is not used to 'point into the wind'. You use the ailerons to establish a heading that gives you the correct ground track. Just before landing you cross control to point down the runway and cross control with the ailerons.

  • Ailerons are for roll dumbie. You only cross control rudder and ailerons for a sideslip which I would bet even money you can't do either.

Sideslip which you are confusing with a crosswind landing is where the aircraft's wing is dipped towards the runway and rudder is used to oppose it to slip the aircraft down sideways.

Any pilot will know that wind from the side will cause a vector pushing one off track from the runway unless one yaws the nose into the wind.

  • Altitude..Dude I was a USAF pilot for 10 years including 3 years as an instructor pilot, and yes - I taught crosswind landings with every student. You apply rudder going into the flair to straighten the nose out, and aileron into the wind. There is no difference between a sideslip and a crosswind landing. You establish ground track with the ailerons until just at the flair.

  • Altitude...Any pilot who would attempt to keep a ground track on approach using rudder alone is a computer pilot only. Once again, you set your heading on final using the ailerons. As you go into the flair, you step on rudder to align the jet with the runway, and then apply aileron into the wind. Anyhow, glad you enjoy aviation.

  • One final thought. If all you do is align your nose with the rudder, the aircraft will simply be blown sideways off the runway as the wind blows it. You need to lower the wing to keep your track. (I'm done) :)

  • You are so full of it. Come to my home town and I'll show you a real crosswind and how to do it properly. Til then stick to playing your flight sim

  • ailerons are used to point into d wind, which is called crabbing...using rudder into d wind may cause skidding n unltimately a stall, which u obviously dnt want to...

  • actually akshaysamel..crabbing is when you use your rudder when you're coming in for a crosswind

  • crabbing is not using rudder...

crabbing is using ur ailerons to turn into d wind...u can land in two ways , 1st is u crab in to d wind n use ur rudder, to give a slip kinda attitude & 2nd is d way those big jets do, using only ailerons to be crabbed into d wind , which looks as if u r going sideways to d runway,in here u use d rudders after u land...mostly...

  • am a pilot and i love putting them down in cross wind :P its more fun and if you look most of these bad cross wind landings are made by britannia pilots which are long gone now but were great guys

  • Woah, i allways botch the Cross winded landings. Any advice for an avid pilot with an expert collection?

  • stay clam and dont panic the best thing to do is no when to go around have that hand on the power ready to power up and go around even us airline pilot go around more often than you think.

  • I'm cool and calm but when i hit the ground the plane never wants to straighten out. So it's not me, it may be my plane. It's a tail dragger, i own a few world war one and two fighters and bombers. A private collection. But when i touch down, say in my Thunderbolt, it begins to skid and i cant land flat and straight, only shutting off the engine to land. Any ideas why?

  • right rudder all the way if that dont work its just the plane and its max cross wind is low. could try a light power once your down with right rudder might help a little with the positive airflow.

  • Okay, what about tricycle landing gear? Like in the P38 lightning? When i try, the whole plane slips either left or right, grinding the wing into the ground and leaving one wheel in the air. And i try so hard, even professionals say it's a toughie.

  • well my opinion is that putting down this steel giants sideways isn't the best option. However like we see it works really good ;)

  • i seem like there drifitng

  • driftiiinnnnn braaaaaaa

  • whats the name of this song??

  • Nightcrawlers-push the feeling on 2003

  • this is why piots get paid so much

  • no thats why pilots in big planes get paid so much. Pilots in little ones get paid nothing;)

  • MARAVILHA!DEZ!!!

  • cara esses videos sao divinos com uns crosswind diabolicos caralho pensei que isso era possivel so no flight simulator demonios vc pos um bom video

  • what tune is it ?

  • Nightcrawlers-push the feeling on 2003

  • good stuff

  • WOW!! Those sure are some amazing piloting skills!!
