  • so if i get a nikon d5100 and then buy a full frame lense, i lose wide angle?

  • @NO0Bstatus go for dx lenses nikon 10-24mm or sigma 10-20mm this will give you effective 15-36mm or 15-30mm FOV. so you will get almost same FOV and performance may be better because dx use center(sweet spot) of lens. but another big benefit for full frame sensor is low light performance that you can never get from crop sensor.

  • Cool! This camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: (copy address to browser): tempusALL.bymac.org

I got very professional time-lapse videos with thiscamera! cool sunset videos!

  • @bymacorg6 SPAM

  • better camera for better picture quality?

  • @ranirani1976 obviously. but expensive pro camera is not all about sensor and circuit. its the rugged body, long life durability and compatibility with older lenses that makes them pro.

  • @eye008 i feel this gap from what is semi expert and pro is smaller today. d7000 is perhaps all we want. check out... freedslr . com remove spaces and get a chance to bring home completely new Nikon D7000

  • Why do so many ignoramuses feel the need to comment on these clips, for no other reason than showing off how vulgar and ignorant they really are!?

I always enjoy WDC reviews, been eying up used D3 models lately and it's great that these reviews are always here to check up on.

  • Why do you have all those cameras, and your video is in SD resolution??

  • it pays for itself just take embarrassing pictures of Miley Cyrus you can make 1000$+ an hour

  • you talk too fast

  • canon kick ass nikon's shit... nikon only had 15 crosstype AF sensor. while the canon had more, 39 crosstype AF sensor on the 1dmk4

  • @Xyb3rTeCh are those what you need to become a pro? Damn... Ansel, Avedon, Cartier must have sucked...

  • @Aeris365 nikon said to have 45 af points but only 15 of them its crosstype. you need crosstype sensors to ensure sharp tack focusing shoots. hence, the cnaon 1dmk4 with 39 crosstype would ensure every shoots is sharp tack

  • D3/D3s = best Cameras ever

  • Nice review thx

  • who the fuck cares about megapixels?

  • Those of us who print our photo's

  • @SecretMisery haha megapixel myth mate, 10 megapixel D40 can print 45x30, megapixels in the end don't really matter as much as you think.

  • @domclaudevandamme those who want large prints, obviously

  • Nigel is the Jeremy Clarkson of cameras in the sense that both love their subjects, you can tell by the way the talk is not just technique.

  • Nikon D3 Digital SLR Camera - Body Only

  • @KamikazeKoscki got mine @ $3200

  • @Aeris365 Nice!

  • Got mine in the post this morning. I havn't had chance to test it in the field yet but I've been messing about in doors and the low light shots are fantastic!!! If they ever manage to improve on this we wont be needing flashguns anymore lol. Awesome camera!

  • If you have a 300mm lens on the camera, why would you turn the APS mode on to get a '450mm' lens? couldn't you just crop the image from full frame?

  • so your old DX lenses work on the new Film FX sensor

  • yes. but trying to imagine what that crop is going to look like, and then actually cropping it (whilst wasting space on your card for all the extra image you won't need) as well as not being able to use a DX lens if you need to, is a bit of a pain in the arse.

Then again if you're spending £4000 why would you bother with APS?

  • Thanks for correctly pronouncing the word Nikon!

  • rose4usagi....thanks....it happened loads of times and I thought oh no...I've got a rogue camera here...especially as the 35-70 zoom lens WAS faulty and had to go back....but you are RIGHT...it WAS the bottom shutter...........

  • Thanks for that....I bought one a few weeks ago so I'm just playing at the minute....one thing...the camera has functioned strangely a couple of times...taking pictures itself, with no contact made by myself....is this going to be a serious malfunction?.....

  • You should call a priest right away, you may have a poltergeist.

  • have you checked the bottom shutter button? IT was my problem for a week, I couldn't understand why it takes photo by itself. then I notice that the bottom shutter button is activated as well. :)

  • 11fps!

  • Good detailed review, with good information. well done.

  • lol, I bet someone's going reveal to people that the D3 has two card slots now that he mentions it!

  • nick-on

  • Please will you start producing these videos in High Def so we can se the smaller details, i.e. LCD screen information??? That would be a great help. Cheers. ;-)

    Fletch.

  • i second that mate! take advantage of the hd vids :)

but remember by the time this review was uploaded the hd wasnt available on youtube, lets hope for the future videos

  • so if a canon 1ds mk3 is tuned down to about 12 mp like the d3, does that mean that the pixles will become larger and gather more light just like the d3?

  • probably not because the pixels don't physically change.

  • no, if you put it to 12 mp size, that means that youre only using about half the sensor, it just turns off the rest of them.

  • unless you are planning to print those pictures the size of your livinroom wall anything over 12mp will do the job, 24mp are intended for fashion and anything that will be retouched and printed in comercial way :)

  • Excellent review and detailed. Thank you!

  • yes the 300mm gives you a 450mm on DX, BUT you have the same quality if you shoot at 300mm in FX and crop the picture. On the D300 you have 450mm at 12megapix. Sure a big difference!

  • If you want it and can afford it (and all the FX lenses you'll have to buy to go with it), and you don't mind the weight when carrying it around, then why not?

  • thats a great vid :)

but I have an "opinion question" about that, am a photographer and photography is my hobby and I have a Nikon D80 with almost full gear, but I sometimes get tired from changing lenses and stuff and I thought of buying the D3 as a second body, plus because I LOVE IT, my question is :is me buying this great and yet expensive camera, for a hobby, worth it???

it would be nice if someone shares his\her opinion with me plz, any one :D

    thanx

  • just remember the d3 is like 5,500$ :D what about a d300?

  • Great review ! Gettin' mine D3 this week. :)

  • its a giant camera

  • No worries. Yeah, trolls are rampant on YouTube!

  • They play that garageband chime, it annoying!

  • :) add it to "Nike-on" and "Neek-on"

  • An excellent overview of the camera, reasoning behind its design, history and features!
